i am having a delima, i am having to thin things out for the first time and i am having a hard time. its mostly the stuff that doesent get played or i couldnt get into it.
i have a ton of 2600 stuff, i took a load of games and joysticks into play n trade and made a profit.
i have several atari systems and i am having a hard time figuring out which one to keep, theyre all in good condition they all work so i cant decide on that info but some i know are more of a keeper than others because of how theyre made. so of the ones i list which ones would you keep?
Heavy 6
Woody 4
Darth 4
Sears Video Arcade
Woody 4 with 6 shell and stickers covering the openings not used (using up old stock
i am keepin one to play the games i am not gettin rid of but its to the point where it doesent matter, i'll make money off of them. i got so much as freebie stuff or in lots with other stuff that was hella cheap its unreal

I'd just keep the heavy sixer, as it's the first production run machine. Although if you're planning on ever playing tigervision carts, the 4 switchers may be a better bet.

I'm all for putting this in the right forums.
I don't have a personal preference since my only requirement for a 2600 system is that it can play my River Raid cart.

if its just for playing game I'd say this since you might have the most trouble selling and least profit coming from this model. Otherwise if you have a 7800 just ditch them all.

i myself have always been fond of the Vader models, just because its all Black
but i would keep the 6 switch just because all the switches are on the front of the machine

I'm in nearly the same situation myself right now.
I'd try and keep the Heavy Sixer, the Darth Vader, and Video Arcade. That'll cover all your playing needs and still leave you with 3 different looking consoles (I like visual variety--when I've got the space to handle it.)
But if you're trying to get down to one . . .
If your focus is on collecting, then I'd keep the Heavy Sixer since it's still got the classic Atari look, 6 switches look more interesting than 4 (to me, anyway,) and it's got a little more story behind it.
If your focus is on playing, then I'd stick with the 4-switch wood since it has better compatibility (uh, I think--I'm no expert,) still has the classic Atari look (lots of other black systems out there, go with the wood--again me and variety) and because the Heavy Sixer should bring you most money/trade value when you get rid of it.

I'm sort of doing the same right now, but I have the luxury of a bit more space, so I opted to keep the heavy sixer and Video Arcade II, and sold or are selling a 6 and couple 4s. If I'd had a Vader I'd probably keep it, too. If I had to cut down to just one, I'd keep the heavy 6. Made in the USA w/ a Sunnyvale sticker on the bottom... I just love that!

Heavy Sixer FTW, and only since you don't have a Jr. listed as a choice. Juniors are nice when living space becomes an issue. In fact back when I started collecting in 1995 I bought a Jr for $3 at the Goodwill across the street from my old apartment, brought it home, and went straight back to Goodwill to donate them my 4-switch woody.
But of the ones you've listed, I'd say stick with oldest and most valuable one.

I think the wood paneling is a crucial aesthetic and should be considered in this decision.

It's generally regarded that the Sears/Atari Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer has the cleanest video output out of all of the VCS/2600 models, with the 2600jr. having the worst results. Keep the heavy sixer, you won't be sorry for it.

ok well, i'll keep those two then.
that means a 4 switch with box and some manuals, almost complete, will have to go. how much would a boxed 4 switch go for? its box is a little battered and its bowed out from inside for some reason (like its got hella gas)

This thread reminds me that I need to take another look at my own 2600 and sell it if I can't find anything I enjoy to play on it.

Someone probably overpacked or incorrectly re-packed the contentsof the box at one time.

Amen my brother! The woodgrain models should automatically be at the top of the 'keep' list. Just for those purist folks like us who believe that plastic woodgrain is an essential part of late '70s/early '80s electronics.
