it appears that smt:nocturne is getting a reprint and being sold via play-asia.

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-43-49-en-70-bug.html

US$ 44.90's a pretty good price!, but it does come without the soundtrack.

i wonder if this will bring down the price theyre being sold on amazon.

Thanks for the link! This is the last game in the series I need, so I'll be picking this up. Too bad it doesn't come with the soundtrack, but at least I can finally get the game (at a reasonable price).

I'm not sure this has been confirmed to be a reprint (though it more than likely is). Either way that's a great price, and if the Disgaea reprint is any indicator it's sure to drive the price down significantly.

I saw this question and someone else asked me the same thing. The price did drop a lot for Nocturne (http://blog.videogamepricecharts.com/2008/05/nocturne-and-digital-devil-saga-not-so.html). Almost 50%. Digital Devil Saga did the same after its reprinting.

Kind of crappy on Atlus' part to do a reprint when they had said all along that they never would. Or is that just a rumor? I already had both so it's not a huge deal, but it does suck to see something you've already got and cherish plummet in price. Ah well.

Also, the DDS reprint didn't come with the boxes, soundtrack, or slipcover did it? And Nocturne didn't have it's soundtrack either, I believe.

No, The DDS is the game, case, an book. The Nocturne reprint does not have the soundtrack or the extra part for it.

Started seeing these filter into the local gamestops. Nice to see the game available to the general public at a reasonable price again.

The original version of Digital Devil Saga will probably stay pretty high, at least in the long-term. An original, unsealed version of Nocturne can be faked by simple swapping the case with another 2-disc game, like say Dragon Quest 8, and then getting the soundtrack is pretty easy since Atlus overproduced them and were giving them out like candy. With Digital Devil Saga, on the other hand, there's no way to get all that packaging unless you actually bought the original version, and since even before this reprint there were plenty of copies out there that lost their packaging, they'll only get harder and harder to find with all the pieces.

it doesnt suck. video games arent investments, and it rings true a million times for currently active consoles. anyone treating them as such is a complete idiot. also, anytime something great, gets mass produced for the benefit of the general public, it is a great thing. screw the guy hording it in his closet.

You used to be able to order all of the bits and pieces to complete a package directly from Atlus. I stumbled on a copy in the wild that had the case and manual but was missing everything else. They sent me everything + a bunch of sampler cds + the Nocturne soundtrack for a whopping $11. A++ would buy loose bits from again.

Wound up using the Nocturne soundtrack to help complete a copy of Nocturne for a buddy of mine.

A million times this.

You'd also have to get a matching insert that says "INCLUDES LIMITED EDITION SOUNDTRACK CD!" on the back to really pull that off.

I knew someone was going to play the "not an investment card": no kidding. But you're telling me if you had happened upon a piece of gold you wouldn't be bummed a bit if the price of said gold took a 50% hit? You didn't invest in the gold, but you had it and enjoyed knowing that it was worth so much.

And I know, analogies are a sign of a poor argument, but I suck at arguing. And who wants to argue anyway? I'm torn on the reprint issue in general. I actually enjoy hunting down a rare and illusive game much more than having it handed to me. It just makes it that much more special once you finally obtain it. To me reprints cater to the people who don't want to work for that gem to add to their collection.

I'm not trying to pick a fight or start an argument though. Congrats to everyone who is enjoying these games, they are amazing.

And thanks for insinuating that I'm a "complete idiot".

"Investing" in games that are from an active console is very risky for sure. If the game gets to expensive, like it did, Atlus figured they can make money off of it with a re-release.

"Investing" in rare games on old systems is probably different though. I don't see Atlus reprinting any "Ogre Battle" games for Super Nintendo even though they sell for a lot now.

All that being said, I think the games should be bought to be played. But I bet the majority of gamers who are buying DDS and Nocturne are buying them to play. They just got screwed though if they want to sell it again after playing it.

Treating video games (especially such recent) as an investment is a lot like treating a movie on DVD as an investment. The analogy of video games and gold is a poor one as they are in no way similar.

Hooray for reprints. It means more people can enjoy a game that may have been overlooked the 1st time it was published. I have little pity on people that complain when a reprint hurts the value of their game.

Yeah Atlus really has a great business model with this stuff. Print small quantities and make reprints if it looks like there is demand for it.

I was surprised that they only asked 30 for Persona 3 FES.

By the way - I love your website - I'm pretty p'sd it got blocked at my work!

I do hope you mean US releases. There's a ton of Megaten games. and if you do mean US, do you have the Demikids games for GBA and Jack Bros for Virtual Boy? Just curious. If so, excellent collection.

This is cool though. Game needs more recognition. Is there anything the reprint is missing content-wise, or is it just the soundtrack?

gold backs up currency, it is an investment. gold (and all gems/minerals) fluctuate in price hourly, its what a HUGE portion of what the stock market, and our economy, is based on. EVERYONE who buys gold, invests in it in some way. which is why they buy GOLD and not spray painted aluminum (even though technically, aluminum is a superior element)
Also, if i 'happen upon' anything, im grateful as long as its useful...
if you 'happen upon' a great video game, it shouldnt matter if its 1$ or 100$. it was free and it is good.

then go collect panesian games, or try tracking down the cdi zelda games, or psychic detective/fox hunt for ps1. those are all very very rare and also complete crap. leave the good games to be played (their purpose) and not trophy on a mantle.
