The topic says it all, I have been collecting them for almost 3 years now and have nearly 3000 of them. Just curious to see if anyone else collects them or is wanting to trade for some of my doubles.

Holy shit that's a lot
I thought I had quite a few myself, around 200+
I also have probably around 1,500+ magazines too
Very cool though, if there were any you were actively looking for I can see if I have them, most of mine date from SNES days to present.

Wow! O_O I only collect hint books for Commodore 64 RPGs (Bard's Tale and AD&D games in particular).

I usually get only fighting game guides. Probably have around 20 or so.

3000!? That's AWESOME! I'd love to see a picture or something. I've never seen a collection like that.
I'd estimate that I've got around 200 or so. Friends who work in various retail places always grab the pennied out ones and they eventually find their way into my bookcase. I don't know if I'd call myself a "collector" of these, but I have "accumulated" a pile.

I have a good number of them....then again I usually only collect them for RPGs. Which brings me to taunting another member, who knows who he is....I have a mint condition Suikoden 2 strategy guide. My precious.

I'm with Joe on this one. I used to work for Gamestop and my old boss loves me, so when the guides go to a penny, I get first pick. Plus I'm usually the one pointing out which one need to come off the shelf and I am ususally dead on about it.
I also buy them used when its a game I just got, I.E. Front Mission 3, Dead or Alive 1. A used game store sells them in bulk because no one wants them. Like 10 for 5 bucks.
I only have about 30 though because most of the books shelves are filled with the mags i have been collecting for the past few years.

i wouldnt say i "collect" them, but i try to get one for every game i get. I usually never even look at them until after i beat the game. The only collectable ones i have are Suikoden 2 (x2) and the hard cover Lunars.

3000?????!!!!!! HOLY CRAP!
I've got about 50 or 60. I alway grab them when I find them cheap or if it's for a game I'm currently playing.
I've got about 200 magazines as well.

3 friggin thousand?!!!!!
Damn, I thought my less than 50 collection was big.
I try to collect older ones like for SNES games, and especialy Japanese ones when affordable. I have some very hard to find ones for the Phantasy Star Series. I even have a Japanese one for Mega Man 6 and a super rare one for Super mario 2 (aka lost levels), only this one is for the original Famicom disk game. It is in Chinese, not japanese....weird, huh?
This guy oughta start his own DP guide section.
3000, damn.

I second that. A dp section devoted to guides would be awsome. Insane to compile, but awsome none the less.

I don't have any guides, at all. Nope, I take that back, I have a guide for Jack Nicklaus Golf 6 for PC...I bought that one because it had a disk full of extra holes in it.
Too bad the game stopped working, and when I try to install it, in uninstalls itself instantly.
3000 is an amazing number.
There are a few guides I'd like to have...mainly for stuff like Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, and Grand Theft Auto
And, is there a guide for PS2 Road Trip?? I'm stuck.

I only collect the ones I find for cheap....say for $3 or less....I only have about 25, it would be nice to see a list somewhere, who put the guide out, which game it was for, etc, etc. The Keeper :)

I look out for Japanese hint books and have a few for their art. The Rockman series books are great because most of them have drawings of every enemy in the game. The idea you'd need a walkthrough for those kinds of games are laughable though.

I am with everyone else on this. 3000 :o
I thought the 50 or so I had was alot. I thought about getting all the Versus books but the PSO guide has so many mistakes in it. That changed my mind.

Never knew there were over 3000 guides! I have perhaps 40 or 50, mostly for C64 and early PC games like King Quest series. I have very few guides for console games, the last one being the pack in Phantasy Star 2 guide. (unless you count guide built in instruction book like Illusion of Gaia for SNES)

3000 Wow! that's awesome..
I collect Videogame magazines..
I may now have around 2000 or more magazines..in boxes..
I've never counted them but they keep piling up..
I have maybe 30 to 50 guides..I really don't use them unless I'm really stuck..or for a certain game that you really need it to play..
I got stuck in Metriod Prime, but i resorted to print out a walk through instead of buying the guide..
I snatch them up when I see them marked down cheap..(Kay Bee)

3000 is quite a collection. I try and pick up guides for all my games. I mostly have RPG guides. I did pick up a cool Genesis Battletech guide. Some sort of list of all the guides released would be nice to have.

Just promise that if you ever see a stack of guides I wrote on sale for a penny (which usually happens about six months after release), you'll buy them all and spare me further embarrassment. Heh.

Holy gods. I didn't know there were that many either! I have about 100 guides, but I mostly started buying them in the Saturn/PS2 era, so I don't have much predating that. Only a few gems, like an original Secret of Mana Square guide, a minty Suikoden 2 one, all the hardcover WD guides, the FF3 Nintendo guide, and an FF1 Nintendo Power guide with my name and address on it, still in mint! :D I'd slay to pick up some more, especially from some RPGs that I'm missing guides for! Got a list of your doubles and wants?
I bought that one because it had a disk full of extra holes in it.
Why would you buy a disk full of holes? ;)
I notice Dig Dug hasn't posted to this thread since starting it. Won't it be funny if he replies and says "Oh, sorry. I meant 300."?
I do, but only for NES games. Until recently, my library included hundreds of issues of EGM, Game Players, Nintendo Power, GamePro, SWATPro, VG&CE, Game Infomer, and a few others. Since I try to beat games without referring to hints, why should I have so many mags? Good question. That's when I started to sell them. Still have the hint books, but the magazines are almost all gone.

Sorry to disappoint you all but in fact I do have only 3000 guides not 300, hehe. I work at EB and every time they drop down to .01 I get all of them, I have been doin this for almost 4 years now. I do Have some guides that date back as far as SNES and Genesis. I have been collecting games for close to 10 years, as soon as I get moved into my house I will get pics for you Joe.
I am more than willing to get a list of guides ready for you Joe if you would like. I have multiple variations on the guides i.e. Prima, Brady , Versus, Nintendo. and many other companies. Just let me know what you want done. Will get to work on it, once I move in for the list.
I have ALOT of doubles, just leave me an e-mail on what you want. I willl gladly trade for either guides or games.
Thanks

I'm at roughly 450 and have a lot of doubles where there was a variation. Toys R Us, Blockbuster, etc. got a lot of exclusive covers, cards, posters, etc. Plus, I hit Half Price books game sections every month or so to find older books (found C64, VIC20, and Jaguar books in the last couple of months).

Why would you buy a disk full of holes?
SLAP!!!! :P
I just wish I could figure out why my copy of the game doesn't work anymore...
I just may go out guide hunting tomorrow...never too late to start a new angle in my collection...besides, the shelves where my GamePro collection used to sit *sniff* looks pretty empty ;)

I pick up any console game guide books when ever I find them for cheap. The strangest guide I ever owned was a Lufia 2 Guide made by KONIP.

Would you be willing to part with your lufia 2 guide? I am willing to trade 3 if not 4 of my newer game guides for it? Is it in good condition? any pages missing? I am mainly looking for guides for either the SNES or Genesis time era. I have most of the guides in this time era. I am compiling a list of titles and there respective companies that made those guides now should have it done in approximately 2 weeks. Once done I would like to see if anyone can help fill in any of the holes.

Actually, I don't own it anymore. I sold it on ebay about 2 years ago. The book wasn't in very good condition.

I actually don't collect hintbooks persay. The only hintbook I ever remember having was for Goldeneye 64. I did however have a 3 years subscription to the wonderous Nintendo Power :)
