Hi,
Anyone knwo what the deal is with the 'letterbox effect'?
I'm connecting my super famicom up to my uk telly, (that takes rgb and seems to do 60hz), and with one rgb cable ( i think it came from a game cube) i get the squashed 'letterbox effect' and and with the other rgb cable i get a nice full screen.
With the non letterbox one i have to explicitly switch the telly into a.v mode for it to work. Using both these cables with my game cube gives a fine picture.
Most confusing.

I take it all back, the letterbox cable gives the same effect on my super famicom as with my pal game cube. I had assumed that the cable in question was a u.k gc cable.

However, if i use the naff lcd flatscreen i bought the other day, the gc with the letterbox cable fills the screen and looks the same as when using the non-letterbox cable. (I guess the lcd flatscreen might be doing something fancy with the signals).
The super famicom with the non-letterbox cable gives no image at all and the letterbox cable gives a full screen v shakey image.

So one of the cables gives a lovely full screen pic on my CRT tv with both consoles (a little too wide for the tv actually).

I was just wondering why this was?
I knew there were issues with capacitors in teh cables between different consoles and regions, but this seems to be something else.

I think i need to go and have a lie down in a darkened room now.
