Does anyone know how long game saves will last on a PSone memory card?
I have some RPG game saves & I still use the memory card and don't want to loose the games saves I still have.

I have some saves from probably 10 years ago still on my ps1 memory card so they should last a good long while.

though if your paranoid about it and have a ps2 you can back up the saves on a ps2 memory card (you will have to put them back onto a ps1 card to use the saves)

also there are devices that let you transfer saves to a computer though i don't know how easy they are to find or whatnot.

Devices like the playstation DexDrive will let you back up your saves into pc folders.....Not sure if it will work with windows XP or vista though.......There is a DexDrive for the N64 as well....You can find some of these at the bay brand new....

Yeah, Dex drives are the way to go. I've got a PS1 and an N64 one.

Admittedly I haven't used either in years, but back in the day... they were sweet ;)

What about SNES and GameCube saves, anyway to transfer those to a computer?

i think you can do this with a ROM copier....i think, for the SNES anyways

i know for sure you can if you play from the copier in the first place or play the game from a flash cart. again, for the snes

don't know about the GC though

I've copied GB/GBA saves from original carts through a rom copier - and even transferred my GBA Metroid Zero Mission save from my PC to a retail cart using the backup software. I was shocked it worked ;)

I see no reason you couldn't backup any type of save rom with a copier. Gamecube I seem to recall some kind of SDCard adapter... or am I nuts?

I still have and use the memory card I got back when the system launched, and I've had no problems with it yet.

PlayStation memory cards are basically just Flash Memory. You've got something like a 100,000 read/writes on it before the memory can become unstable. I don't think your saves are going anywhere anytime soon.

but you have to use often, right?

because I think it gets erased if you don't use for some months...

I've seen this occur with palm flash cards...

No, theoretically they should last with or without usage.

Just be sure to blow out the dust.

The only memory card I've had fail on me is a 3rd-party machination (which was really too bad, since I lost my first level 99, fully complete (including items) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night save). Besides that one, I've left them unused for years without having problems. If you're really worried, you can always get a PS3 and store the saves on that in the virtual memory cards.

I still have my original memory card from Christmas 1997, and it still has both my Final Fantasy VII save from August 1998, and Brave Fencer Musashi from December 1998, both my oldest saves. Still reading and writing fine.

I recommend buying a Dexdrive. I have one packed away somewhere. I never understood why there wasn't a similar device released for the PS2. Unfortunately I can't use it even if I wanted to. Since the last time I hooked it up, I bought a new computer with no serial port on the back. I guess I have a reasaon to keep my 2001-era PC around after all.

No.

Flash is a energy free state. Nothing goes anywhere without access. Its not entirely impossible that a card is bad, but it goes bad while being accessed, or when something is done to it while its reading/writing. Hence the 'Do Not Turn Off Power When Loading' screens that have been attached to games that use memory cards.

you could probibly find one easy if you asked on the buy/sell forum. there are many diffrent types

or you can order one from http://www.tototek.com/

i can tell you from first hand experence though they are NOT user friendly. they are archaec parallel port useing grey market usually cheaply made devices.

That's because 95% of all Palm stuff is crap. Still can't believe people bought into Palm while Psion got shafted in the long run.

under backup units, the Doctor SF7

its still a none user friendly, archaec interface parallel port useing grey market device...but slightly less so

you should know it used floppy discs for the most part. it can use a cd drive if you can find one for it. i also hear you can directly transfere files through a cable directly to the PC.

honestly i gave up on mine for the most part and i just use flash carts. (which they also sell on that site.)
