Ok, so I have been playing on an off FFXII. I bought the game brand new and I don't think it has left the DVD drive of the PS2 since I bought it.. The game was freezing up in certain areas of the world map where music would still play but the dark screen would remain. So today I opened up the drive to look at the disc and to my horror there was a circular scratch around the mid-low section of the disk. WTF?? how does that happen?

Is there someone I can call and complain to in order to get a replacement or is my fate sealed at just crying over the fact that I have to shell out for another new FFXII collector's edition...?

Your lens caused the scratch. Either its misalligned and it did it on its own, or it was bumped while it was on and the disc bumped the lens and got scratched.

Unless your system is basically brand new, there isn't going to be anyone to call to have anything happen to it.

There are numerous disc repair methods out there, I recommend one of the pastes that you work in (think car wax) to where its scratched, polish it out and see how it fills in the scratch. If its not mostly gone, give it a second dose. Just remember that if you do use that stuff work from the inner part of the cd out to the far edge. DO NOT buff it in circularly. You'll do no good to the scratch and have a better chance of adding more.

Lucky for you that the FFXII collectors edition is thirty bucks or less used now.
