Xbox LIVE update - are you screwed too?

I just put my 360 back online and had a forced console update.

Now I can see friends come on and offline, but cannot play on live with anyone or send messages anymore. It worked for about 4 minutes then poof.

WTF?

There was supposed to be an 8 hour or so downtime today. Maybe that's what it is?

Mine was screwed hours after it was supposed to be done, and I was more concerned about the console update.

And it's still down this morning. *sigh*

I was mostly annoyed because I was looking forward to playing Rainbow Six 2 with a bunch of my buddy's friends from work in a large group. Nothing like killing badguys while still in a post-game 7 victory happy place.

Ah well, we'll let 'em figure it out... try again in a few days.

Maybe something happened during the update process? Perhaps you can delete it and re-download.

I don't think the update singled out your machine to destroy, or maybe it did! CHEATER! CHEATER! WooOoOoOoo wOoOoOoOooOo

I apparently updated (don't know how though since I never got the reboot of anything) when I was playing either yesterday or the day it happened. It did however not log me into live when I played yesterday, so I had played Saints Row, earned a few achievements and didn't even notice that they didn't go towards my gamerscore until I had checked something we have in vbender.

I had to reselect my tag and things have 'seemed' to be fine since.

To be clear, there wasn't a "new" update on XBL. There was maintenance Monday night and some intermittent problems as a result. According to Major Nelson (http://majornelson.com/Default.aspx) they were fixed yesterday.

FWIW, I was bumped off XBL twice last night. I'm assuming it was caused by the previously mentioned, "fixed" maintenance issues.

Live started acting up on me last night. Just now though, I tried playing some COD4. Had to log in three times before I could connect. When I was finally able to connect, I got disconnected 5 minutes into my first game.

There was a minor dash update on monday. It was small, so you might have missed it or thought it was a title update.

When they restarted LIVE after the downtime, they did a "rolling restart". It looks like the restarts just kept on rolling because the service has been flakey ever since.

Thanks, now I know why I was kicked off twice last night, too. Just got my 360 so I was a little worried the problem was on my end.

Of course now after I posted that, mine was all screwy last night. It took forever to sign in, my friends would pop up as online but none of their status came up and it ages went by before I could get through any menus, constantly throwing error messages that live couldn't retrieve information. Ugh.

Seriously though, things seem to have finally calmed down. I played Rainbow 6 co-op for a few hours last night and all was well. My burn of Gears of War is fucked and I loaned out my original so I didn't get to play that finally. So it goes.
