Did anyone else see this? Nyko is releasing 4 limited edition colored Wireless Nunchucks, black, grey, pink, and gold. They are releasing 300 of black and grey, 250 of pink, and 150 of the gold.

Im usually not a crazed limited edition fan, but I picked up 2 of the black and grey, and will probably get 2 of the other colors too... mostly because I am a crazy collector. One to use, one to keep packed away :-D

Ill be ticked if they release more than this, but we shall see!

Why do the 'Gold' nunchucks look exactly like the black ones?

Perfect Shot = not crap

I'm thinking a wireless chuck with or without the Perfect Shot is at least worth a look. I'd like for it not to suck but, it might. Perfect Shot could be a fluke... who knows.

Oh NO! There goes my retirement strategy!

In all seriousness though, I hope these work well. It would be neat to FINALLY have something that might be one of the R8-10 range in the future that is useful as well as obscure.

That, and I have gotten frustrated while boxing with the damn wire between the two parts of the controller. I wish Nintendo had thought this one through a bit better when buidling them. After all, everything else is wireless... the nunchuck should have been too.

After all, everything else is wireless... the nunchuck should have been too.

Then it wouldn't be a nunchuck. A nunchuck is just two sticks if there is nothing attaching them.

Well ... it can't be any worse (or absurd) than this monstrosity of an add-on :

That's the kind of thing that is the exact opposite of "convenient".

Bigger, heavier, needs batteries ... I'll play wired thank you.

Saw one at the GameStop in Lyndhrust NJ today so I picked it up.

$35.00 ... a BIT expensive, but I like novel accessories, especially if they're highly functional. This thing could be a rarity in the future, and I'm drawn to that as well.

Takes 2 AAA batteries, which are reported to have 30+ hours of gameplay from one set. It's the same size and shape as the standard Wii Nunchuck, and I find it to be no heavier than the standard Wii Nunchuck.

The analog stick had good action, the C and Z buttons are clear, which is a nice aesthetic touch, and they were a bit stiff, but also had good action.

The signal broadcast dongle is about an inch, snaps into the bottom of the Wiimote and doesn't require batteries.

The "Kama" Nunchuck includes it's own Wiimote wrist-strap, and has the notch for it on the bottom of the controller.

Worked excellently on the three games I tried it with.

Wii Sports - Boxing was perfect, and completely un-hindered by a wildly flailing cord between the Nunchuck and the Wiimote.

Smash Bros. Brawl - I find the Nunchuck setup to be THE most awkward of all the Smash Bros. control setups, but everything functioned as it should have as far as I could tell.

Mario Kart Wii - The software wouldn't recognize the wireless Nunchuck when booted, but if you insert (or remove/insert if it's already in there) the Kama's dongle into the Wiimote after the game boots, it's fine. Again, flawless control and not a bad control setup for the game.

That GameStop is the only one I've seen it at in the wild, and they have one left if anybody is looking for one.

I give it my recommendation if you enjoy the Wiimote control setup, but could do without the cord.

Anybody else get one?

the white one isnt rare or limited. only they grey, black, pink and gold were (300,300,250,150 print runs, respectively).

i bought the gold one, its still in its box cause i hardly play my wii. i thought the stupid thing should never have had a wire, i dont care if its called a nunchuck, its stupid. shouldve been cordless from the get-go. anyway, i heard VERY good things about these, so i am very happy with my purchase, i WILL open it once i need it. if you ordered form hte website you got a letter thanking you for the limited edition purchase. they are NOT individually numbered, however.

It's really really great.

Between the Frontman 3 Rock Band/Guitar Hero dual-compatible guitar for PS3, the Perfect Shot light gun shell for Wii, and this, Nyko is officially my favorite 3rd party accessory company of 2007/2008!!!

I am still waiting on my KAMA's.... unfortunately they had to go to my folks house in the States and then sent over to me via USPS since Nyko refused to ship to my FPO address via USPS.

Once they get here, I think I may open 1, probably a grey one to try it out and use on a routine basis. The other 7 will remain packaged up for mementos, or use if I really get tired of my freindss using wired nunchucks :)

I agree with Pooft! They should have always been wireless. Getting tangled up while boxing.... PIA!

For the record, I've discovered that it's ever so slightly larger than a standard Nunchuck, and can't be used on most devices that allow for nunchuck-attachment (The Zapper and a lot of 3rd party cheap light-gun type shells).

I've had this pre-ordered for a few months at Amazon and it apparently shipped this weekend. I can't wait to try it. The wire connecting the standard nunchuck to the Wiimote has always bugged me. Don't even get me started on why the classic controller also has to connect to the damn Wiimote. It's just more evidence of Nintendo still living in the past.

I'm curious if anyone here as experienced this problem I've read about at another forum with these.

"When I start Mario kart with the wireless nunchuk turned on, the menu acts funny. I can't select my driver, it only goes to "settings" (and jumps around the settings menu if I select "settings") as if the analog stick is mis-calibrated. The only work-around is to turn off the wireless nunchuk before starting Mario Kart, then turn it back on when the game starts. It's a little annoying but so far that's the only game with that behavior."

Exactly.

Not a huge deal to turn it on AFTER Mario Kart boots.

And honestly I prefer playing Mario Kart with the Wii Wheel ... I can't believe how great that setup works, it's like they spent most of the dev cycle for the game tweaking the Wii Wheel control setup.

Thanks, I must've missed that.

The Wii wheel works well, but I've gotten much more accurate control using GameCube controllers, so I use my Wavebird.

For the record, much like the issue reported with the Wireless Nunchuck, Mario Kart Wii doesn't recognize the OFFICIAL classic controller when the game boots up. You need to remove and re-insert that as well.

So, it's definitely a software issue with Mario Kart Wii, not the Kama.

I am still anxiously awaiting my 8 Kamas (I got 2 in each special color), so that I can try them out. I agree with the above posts of the "inconvenience of the wire", they should have been wireless all along. I think Nyko will make a killing on these if they keep marketing it correctly.

I wouldnt be surprised if a third party WiiMote comes out that they develop that works with the Kama without a "dongle".

Nintendo is SUING over these things?

Hmmm ... looks like now is a good time NOT to un-box those "limited edition" ones.

Hey, here's my review ;p Stolen my from dtoid blog :P

____________________________________

Hey!

Just got my Kama in the mail and I'ma gonna review it! (like the title says, its a wireless nunchuk if you didn't know ^^)

http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/user/2/25282-97435-nykokamawirelessnunchuckjpg-468x.jpg

Well a start note: I'm gonna be super picky. But this is just because I want everyone to know every nook and cranny of this fucker for when they buy it ;p.

So where to start? It's a wireless nunchuk ;p Which is a definite + from the very start.

http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/user/2/25282-97435-looksPNG-468x.jpg

Looks: Looks a lot like the regular nunchuk, a bit different size but nothing horrible. Has a wii-mote-esc power button on the right side and a little flashing light to the left of it. I think it woulda looked tons better if they both lit up so it would look like an alien head but hey it's passable! Says Nyko on the bottum front and has the FCC ID running down the side, which I thought actually made it look slightly better, not much though. The receiver at the end of the remote fits nicely. The C and Z buttons are clear, which look different and cool but don't light up which is a bit of a letdown :( But it's not like you look at the controller when you play :P

While it's not like a glove it doesn't look bad and is small enough to not get in the way of any wrist flicks. :| A grip at the bottom woulda been cool though...

So over all looks are pretty good.

http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/user/2/25282-97435-RMSPNG-468x.jpg

The most important bit :o The response time. It was great, I was playing SMG and Metal Slug Anthology with it and I didn't have any problems at all. I think I noticed a tiny tiny lag from the shoulder buttons, but was so slight I bet it was my imagination, and if it wasn't it's so minuscule that it wouldn't bother anyone. I tried concentrating on just that for 15+ minutes and still couldn't tell if it was actual or my imagination, so you definitely can't detect it during gameplay.

http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/user/2/25282-97435-SNAKEPNG-468x.jpg

Couple complaint's, though they may be specific to mine. On the knob, there's a slight cut into the plastic, it doesn't feel bad or anything but like I said I'm knitpicking. I think this is a specific case though. Also my C button is loose, and it clatters around when I shake it. Not really gonna be a bother at all, it pushes fine and it won't make noise during a game (since your fingers on it :P) but like I said, knit pick :P

The kama is also supposed to turn off after 20 seconds of no use, but that stupid light blinks to fast when it's not connected and annoys the crap out of me so I have to hold the power button down for 3 seconds. A long ass 3 seconds :| Wish they'd cut it down to 1.....

Also an FYI, the blinking leds are actually buttons you use to connect the kama to the receiver, took me a minute to get that one :|

Well that's all I got! Here's an actual pic (it doesn't look as slim as it does in Nykos picture) of what it is ;p

http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/user/2/25282-97435-nunchukPNG-468x.jpg

Final Judgment: Well my final judgment is torn ;p For 30 bucks, if your going to pick up another nunchuk I definitely think the kama should be the one. If you already have all that you need, is it worth a replacement? For me it was, I hate the wire and find it super annoying. I guess that's all a personal preference I guess ;p If you want wireless it's sold, but it is around 30 bucks so choose for yourself ;p

Hope it helps!

You'd be surprised. It doesn't feel much heavier, the sheath doesn't add any noticeable thickness to the 'chuck, and it gives you a bit of mass to "throw against". I own one of those and the wireless 'chuck and they're both decent.

Plus it gives the nunchuck a stand, rather than it sliding off the table and onto the hardwood floor like the slick, curved thing it is.
