Can anyone explain why in the hell Guy beats the crap out of Cody at the end of Final Fight? Make something up, I don't care. I just need closure...

Make something up, I don't care....hmmmm......Because he can.

Wasn't it because Guy wants Cody's girlfriend too, and he's jealous Cody got all the attention?

I think there's supposed to be some friction between them, because Cody gets to bang the mayor's lovely daughter. Meanwhile, Guy goes unnoticed despite his years of Bushido training... he doesn't even get to star in the Super NES game, for crying out loud!
Cody and Guy patch things up at the end of Street Fighter Alpha 3, however. I like to ignore that storyline, though, because turning Cody into a criminal was probably the worst thing they could have done to him (next to making him star in Final Fight Revenge).

What someone really needs to do is tell this story in the style of VH1's Behind The Music, earnest-sounding narrator and all. LOL

Because he got tired of Cody constantly pronouncing his name as Guy rather than the French Gee.

This explanation, from the Street Fighter Plot Canon Guide (http://www.orochi.com/sffaq/characters.html), seems as good as any.

"Jessica eventually catches up to them and calls out to Cody, but he doesn't turn to face her. Guy, seeing this, leaps in front of Cody and knocks him down so that Jessica can catch up, then Jessica asks why he's leaving."
