Well I very rarely make new topics on here, but I just downloaded the demo off the Jap PSN and I am quite impressed by this short little demo. In case anyone on here hasn't heard, about two weeks ago a mysterious website popped up with a countdown date on it, it left many speculating on what it was for. A few easily figured out that it was for a new Siren game and a few days later it was announced to be the countdown for a demo for the new game.

Well the game takes place about 4 years after the first Siren and involves an American film crew making the unfortunate mistake on filming in Hanuda, well it's good news for us since English speaking folk will understand what they're screaming as they're running for their lives.

As stated above, the demo is quite short, but it's a given since Siren is mission based and always leaves room for exploring during a second run. What's good is they've seriously improved the controls, you seem to be able to grab weapons from fallen Shibato and there seem to be a few things laying around. Also the person that's with you actually HELPS, instead of just standing there getting murdered.

The game play is pretty frantic this time around, the AI seems to have really improved, which means you can't just run away and hide until the Shibato give up looking for you. This means if you're seen by a group of them, run like hell because they are right behind you and will more than likely catch up with you.

Hopefully they'll bring the game over to the states (to make up for us missing out on Siren 2), since most of the voices are going to be in English anyway, it'll be a nice addition to the lack of Survival Horror we've had this gen.

So it is a pseudo sequel? I'm glad: I'd heard it was kind of a remake.

Here are some screens (http://kotaku.com/384187/siren-new-translation-is-pretty-horrifying) courtesy of Kotaku. I'm impressed.

The first game kicked my ass and made me like it, so here's hoping this one makes it out over here, especially in light of how bad the new Silent Hill game looks. (http://kotaku.com/384050/the-friendly-faces-of-silent-hill-homecoming).

I own both Siren domestic (thanks Toxicone) and the Siren 2 import, and I have yet to open or play either.

Some members of team silent actually worked on the 1st 2 Siren games.
Eh silent hill 5 doesnt look as good as the older ones mainly because its not being handled by team silent.

For those who are interested, apparently the Chinese version of the game will include the English translation and can be pre-ordered off of Play-Asia. (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bp-77-1-49-en-15-siren-70-2q0u.html
) It's nice to know that they're going to release on a disc, I'm going to wait to see if they'll do the same here, but if not I'll be importing the game.

I'm assuming this is a PS3 only release, which means not only will I need to get a PS3 someday, but that I'll also have to get it modded to play this game. :( Dogs Damnit, I hate regional issues.

Why? So far, most, if not all, PS3 games have been region free.

Well it's also a PSN game that will be split up by episodes, but with the type of game Siren is, I'd rather have a hard copy. PS3 games are region free and I really don't see them changing that in the future, so there's no need to mod.

That's good news. Looks like I'll be importing if I decide to pick it up, since I much prefer physical media to digital downloads.

I almost just sputtered out a mouthful of Red Bull...I had no idea! PS3 is region free??? Well that's good news! So, if I really wanted to, I could get a PS3 and import Final Fantasy XIII when it comes out in Japan and play it on my US purchased system? Yay! All this and Siren 3? Whoo-hoo. Of course, with the recent Wii and 360 acquisitions my wife wont allow another this-gen system into the house until 2010 when we go to Jupiter and revive HAL.

Yup. That's very much do-able.

Though, it's NOT region free for PS2 and PS1 games.

I was on the fence about downloading the game right away, I wanted to wait to see if they'd announce a disc release for it here in the states, since I really didn't want spend the money to import the game. Well I saw it in the PSN and figured what the hell, I'll be saving a few dollars in the long run and it's only $40.

Well I just got finished playing the first episode and I'm happy with my purchase already. The first episode is short, but in true Siren fashion, I was glad when it was over. The environment is fantastic, it really adds a sense of panic when you see a Shibito look right at you as you're hiding in the closet and you're ready to just jump out and run for your life.

It really does fix everything that was "wrong" with the original Siren (they've even added a difficulty selection), so everyone who complained about Siren will be happy to know that the learning curve is not as steep. For those who are going to jump the gun and purchase the full game, don't expect to be able to download it all in one shot, each episode has to be downloaded individually.

Edit: Good news is that the other episodes are a lot longer than the first episode, from what I've read some range from 30mins and up.

Seriously, is nobody else playing this game? I'm almost on the last episode and it's turning into one of my favorite PS3 titles. It would be a shame if the same thing that happened to the original Siren happened again, it would give Sony another excuse on why games like this never get a state side release.

I, good sir, am enjoying it very much.

I'm glad they toned the difficulty down a little bit, for sure. The original Siren kicked my ass all over, and not always in a good way. Other than that, you've got the usual comments; polished graphics, tight controls, compelling narrative, etc. etc. etc.

I wonder why SCEA sucks so goddamn much at marketing this stuff, though. I didn't even realize it had been released until I visited PSN and saw a banner ad.

Well I just beat the game and damn it if the story isn't confusing as hell, still very much worth the price. The last few episodes were kind of hard, especially one particular mission in episode 12 that required you to protect someone from spider Shibito, took me forever to get past that.I'll probably go back later and search for archives now that I'm done, hopefully they'll help clear up a few things and help grasp the story a little better.

I'd recommend this game to any Survival Horror buff on here and anyone else that's looking for a good game with a compelling (yet sometimes complicated) story. Here's keeping my fingers crossed for a second season!

Glad to see someone on here is playing it. I was happy to see that the game was easier than the first, but still didn't stay too easy and had you rely on trial and error a few times. Sony could have advertised the game better, being that this was a test to see how well episodic DLC would work, but a least they released a demo for it.

I'm enjoying it in spirit, that is to say, I'm really happy to hear that it is enjoyable. I just hope that it is still available for purchase in a year and a half.
