In 1997 i had an Atari 2600 for 2 years with 50 games. Gave it away to a thrift store(they were selling the bundle for 40$). I regretted that a short while later. Threw away the Commodore 64SX(monitor was broken) AND gave away another Commodore 64(common model with the disk drive and bigass battery).
I shouldnt have agreed to throw away a lot of game boxes from SNES, NES, and Genesis, it was to save room. Thankfully i have my Chrono trigger box and some various game boxes left.
Ever done this too? (as well as on an even grander scale)?
Sold all my NES games to buy some SNES games when I was a kid and had no money. Later on I sold my SNES, Genesis and Sega CD collection to buy an N64. I really regret doing all of that. Someday I'll rebuild the collection when I have more disposable income.

Never really did it much, thankfully. I knew even then that my old games were still fun and that trading them "up" for new stuff was a waste. Horray for my past self being smart about it. Now only if he would have taken better care of his NES boxes...

Sort of offtopic, but I regret selling arcade game parts for cheap to people I thought needed them. Instead, they took them and resold them on eBay for much higher. Same for Mac parts.
NEVER again will I help someone out like that unless it's someone I've done business with before and I know they won't betray my trust.

I let my sister use my snes for years and had mario rpg among other tough to find and easy to find valuable titles. When I got it back that and quite a few others were missing. The good side of the story though, my Starfox Super Weekend cart survived all this (this happened before I got back into gaming and knew how rare that game was).

No reason to regret any of that, you gotta do what you gotta do.
My older cousin was big into computers back in the early 80's, and gave me an Atari 400 and later 800 computer, several cartridges and many diskettes with copied games. I was too young to understand the thing and later we threw it out. I traded into Funcoland probably 1/3 of my NES games. I sold my Genesis in the mid 90's for spit and gave games to my cousin. Didn't regret any of that, but I wanted to brain him because he had a large amount of NES, Genesis, and N64 stuff I would have taken, but my aunt gave it to one of his younger cousins. Alright fine, it went to the little kids. But their mothers threw it all out, because they bought a Gamecube or whatever and that stuff was old.

My Dreamcast. But I did get another one last year. However, I've still been unable to find a copy of Tokyo extreme Racer 2. got the first, need the second.
Anyone have one for sale??

Although current times are not good, and my collection is being sold,
I miss my Atari LYNX collection. The GameBoy just sat there and gathered dust, while the LYNX gave me countless hours of fun.
And, my Dreamcast collection. Many, many hours were lost on the last console from Sega.
Loved the import SHMUP's!!

About a year and a half ago, I gave away Xenogears and Persona 2, both mint and complete, to a friend of mine for his birthday and Christmas presents, respectively. I figured that I'd be the good guy and let him have those because he's a big fan of both games and I already have a large assortment of other rare PS1 rpg's. Also, he was nice enough to trade me a mint Suikoden 2 for one of my SNES's way back in the day.
Well, through a certain series of events that have recently occurred, this guy has turned out to be quite possibly the biggest douchebag that I've ever known and I seriously regret turning over such prized games to this fool. But, it is what it is, I guess... :(

Without a doubt I regret selling my ex girlfriend on ebay last year. And all I got was a mere $274 for her. Had I'd known the market would have been better this year I could have gotten atleast $500 for her. Oh well, theres always her sister.

Brain = oral sex, last time I checked...
My parents weren't too well off, so once the idea of being able to trade old for new was presented, I was pretty keen. Sorry if this goes long, I had a trading problem. I'm better now.
I sold my nes with about twenty games and a bunch of accessories (Including a U-Force!) to a friend for $100. As I recall this was to bankroll a snes, seeing as I already had a Genesis and the Nintendo was beginning to gather dust. I regretted it a little bit a few years later, but since the dawn of emulation, and especially since I bought a flash card for my gameboy sp many moons ago, I've had plenty of time to revisit the nes games I sold or never had anyway. Sadly, years of playing random nes games has _almost_ burnt me out on the entire system. That said, I now can play nes games from my ds, sp, dreamcast, computer (on the tv or not, with psx controllers) or even some on the gamecube via Animal Crossing, Mega Man compilations, or even the zelda collector's edition. Papa needs a Wii, but you get the idea. I don't really miss the old controllers or box, although my fiancée does, so to each his own. I have no immediate plans to buy a nes...
I also sold my game- gear and brick boy. I think I miss the b/w gameboy more, but again, I can (and do) play any of those games on the ds now, so it doesn't bother me. Funny how cheap games that I bought as a youngster like Quarth and Kwirk still hold my attention.
I sold my Super Nintendo as some point too, and I do miss that one. I never had that many games, but I did have some of the essentials like Mario Kart, All stars, world, paint, and Zelda lttp. The latter would be my favorite game until I played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, hehe... Again Emulation is enough for me, and the unnaturally inflated prices for used Super Nintendo games scares me off. Also, and this just might be the metrosexual side of me talking, but I'm kinda put off by the beige/purple/YELLOW appearance of apparently all used supernes's. My 32X might be a little dusty, but it's still a beautiful black mushroom of doom. I would rate my chances of collecting Super Nintendo games before I die around 50/50, but not any time soon.
I sold my gamecube and 15 great games for a period of like 18 months or something. This one actually broke my heart. I was in love with Pikmin 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Party 6, Double Dash, Smash Bros, etc etc, and really didn't want to sell it. I was kind of pushed into a corner though, financially, so what can you do. I kept my memory card needless to say. Later I managed to trade all the simpsons episodes for a pristine gamecube with a few games I was missing anyway. I've since bought 14 of the 15 games I originally had (Fuck Pac-Man Fever.) and about 40 others. My favorite bar none is Chibi Robo. That little robot could be a gta killer in the right hands...
I sold my playstation and some of the games, but that doesn't bother me that much as I think the emulation of psx is, by and large, superior to the real thing. Plus I had a working ps2 slim at the time of the sale. Grr.
And finally, I sold my Genesis and like 30-40 games at some point during the Super Nintendo life cycle, only to regret it immensely. Around the time that Genecyst was finding its legs, I bought a refurbished Genesis from Target bundled oddly enough with Garfield. I sold Garfield about ten minutes later at the funcoland in the same shopping center, and bought a few staples like sonic and street fighter sce. I bought a Sega CD with a couple games from a kid at school shortly thereafter, and a 32X a few years after that. Now, a little over ten years after I originally rebought my genesis, I finally have all the games I ever owned as a child. I put off buying the Menacer for a long time, and the last two games I actually only bought about a week and a half ago. NBA Jam T.E. I already owned for the 32x, and was a little torn on buying again, and Predater 2 I apparently didn't care much about. I have 172 genesis carts now, 25 32x games and 41 cds. Don't sell your games kids, you might end up buying them all plus a bunch more later. Not that having a bunch of games is a bad thing, but spending too much is...

Selling: My original 1990 NES (got another one at a yard sale)
Giving Away: Gave my cousin the copy of "Lifeforce" I bought at a pawn shop (got another copy a few years ago).
Thrown away: My Gamepro EGM magazines from 1992-1995. I've not bothered with the Gamepro, but I have pretty much got back the EGM's I had (and then some).

Not really any game systems, but definitely my Amiga 500....and all the games I had...Had around 1000s of disks. Clocked Outrun with it eg. went thru every track and back to the start. (Did that with Pitfall II on my C64 too).

Selling: I sold off half of my SNES collection in high school, including Secret of Evermore, Super Mario RPG, Killer Instinct, ActRaiser, Demon's Crest, Mechwarrior 3050, and Super Star Wars. Thought I'd never play them again and wound up missing them all. When I started collecting in late 2003, I made a goal to get them back, and now they're all in my current SNES collection.
Throwing away: Late in the N64's lifespan, I got a one year subscription to Nintendo Power as a gift. A couple years later, I put them all in a paper bag and took them out to the curb. I wish I had kept them, especially since it'd be fun to read through them now. At least they got recycled.

I always regretted trading away my 1st Vectrex unit when I was a youngster ...
... until I came into a collector-grade mint/boxed unit with a great collection of games and the light pen years later for an amazing price.
Unforunately, it was in SUCH mint condition, that even as a Vectrex enthusiast, I could never bring myself to de-box it and play it on a regular basis, and it wound up all being sold for a tremendous profit (which was nice too).
Thankfully, at yesterday's NAVA I got a great deal on a used Vectrex in really GOOD (but not 100% mint) condition (totally playable though, which is key) from another NAVA member.
Now the hunt begins for a Sean Kelly Multicart 2.0 at a reasonable price :?

When I was a sophomore in high school, I sold my complete Turbo-grafx 16 with box and instructions and Keith Courage, Vigilante and Victory Run for $50 to a kid in my math class. I thought the Turbo was a stupid system and that those games were lame, and at the time, $50 seemed like a lot of money. Had I known that I'd never see another boxed Turbo in the wild, I would have kept it.
I also traded in my NES, SNES and Genesis collections at Funcoland years ago, but I have since recovered most of those games.

after the nes era, my dad got me interested in pc's and pc gaming, so i sold my consoles. i had a 2600 and 20-30 games (including several classics i haven't replaced yet). what kills me though is that i sold my nes along with a game genie and a 10-15 games (all with instructions) for 50 bucks.
i also gave away (or threw away, can't remember) two old tandy coco's. one model1 and one model2. wish i'd held onto them.
god i was a dumb kid.

Around the time the N64 was coming out my parents asked my brothers and I if they could donate our NES to charity. We decided it would be okay at the time as we never played it. I'm not sure what games we had for it, but I think we had a small collection that at the very least included: The original Super Mairo Bros. games, Legend of Zelda, and a power pad game(my dad remembers having one). There were probably other games, but I cannot remember any as I was in grade school when we had it.
Well around the time classic gaming became "popular" I remember wanting a NES. I looked on Ebay, but I was always looking for cheap deals on rare things (I wanted either a Top Loader or a deluxe set). I was later given my cousin's old, broken NES and have collected probably more games than we originally had.
Other things I regret giving away are a few N64 games. My aunt was running a charity event where one of the things they were looking for were N64 games. I gave away a few games I didn't like (an old wrestling game and Mario Golf and Pokemon Stadium), but there were some games I miss. One game, Diddy Kong Racing, I'm not too sure why I gave it away. I'm guessing it was probably because we could never beat it. The other game I gave away I regret most, Super Smash Bros. My younger brother made the argument that we had Melee and didn't need the original. I agreed without second thought:shameful:.
Yep
Auction: My almost 300 (70% boxed) VCS collection on ebay, made almost $3000 though.
My Coleco Adam setup.
Sold: my boxed C1581, SNES collection to buy PSX, 500 boxed Atari 8-bit games, 500 boxed C64 games.
Given away: my Atari Pongs, complete collections of UK magazines, incl. Total, Ace, N64
Trashed: around 700 UK video game and computer magazines due to lack of space, two Atari SLM 804, one MegaST, numerous Apple ][ and Macintosh computers and a whole room full of Mac peripherals.

This is the worst thing I have ever done with video games.
Probably at least 10 years ago, A buddy of mine and I were in a Best Buy that was selling boxed copies of Earthbound for $5.99 (Yes, that is a 5 followed by .99) We bought them up and immediately took them to Funcoland and sold them for $14 each. Since I had never played or even heard of Earthbound during this time, I thought this was a great deal.
I went back to the same Best Buy again and found more, so I bought them up again. This time I realized that Funcoland would still give me $14 for the game without the box and guide, so I kept those. Now here comes the worst part. The boxes and guides were in the trunk of my car at a party I was at. Well there happened to be a bonfire at this party and another buddy of mine and I thought it would be funny to burn the guides and boxes in the bonfire. :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:
I can still remember opening one of the guides with a poking stick and watching it burn. I still regret this today, especially since I have an Earthbound set I am trying to complete. Luckily my buddy still had one of the boxes from that time. Now I just need to find a strategy guide. (anyone got one for sale?)

A few years ago, my Grandfather got to bitching about me having to much in storage. I ended up throwing away:
Nintendo Power (all issues from 1997 - mid 2000)
Tips & Tricks (most issues from 1998 - early 2000)
EGM (all issues from 1995 - mid 2000, plus every buyers guide they put out)
EGM2 (all issues from 1995 - mid 2000)
I did keep a few special issues (the SotN cover EGM2 and volumes 30 and 107 of Nintendo Power).

I had a huge stack of Electronic Games, Electronic Fun with Computers and Games, Joystik, and other mags from the early 80s, but threw them out some time during the NES era. I've been trying to replace them via eBay over the past few years, but I always get outbid.

I've never been one to sell off games that I don't have duplicates of. I already learned that lesson from my brother who sold off his entire NES library, probably for jack squat, even though I would've been happy to keep playing his games. Since we didn't have any other systems at the time, it was years later until I had saved up my own money and bought a SNES. I definitely missed having games around in that time period. And since I nor my family could afford to buy new SNES games all the time, I appreciated all my older games. I would cycle through them all over and over and over.
I do, however, regret that back then I didn't look at gaming with a collecting mindset. Manuals were worth saving because they had important information, but I threw away every box up until about half way through the N64's life span. I thank the heavens that sentimental value caused me to save Chrono Trigger's box, but it kills me that I threw away Lufia II, Super Mario RPG, and lots more.

I really regret trading in my copy of Kirby's Dream Land 2 when trying to get money to get New Super Mario Bros. (Gamestop only gave me $.50, and then they turned around and sold it for $20). I still haven't found another copy.
Also, I regret returning my copies of Crash Bandicoot 1 and 2 when I got frustrated and gave up.

Back in 2000, when I was a High School Student who didn't have much money. I trade a lot of stuff for PS2 games, which were crap.
A lot was PS1 RPG's VP, Tactic's Ogre, Persona 2, ect...although I didn't know they would have gone above retail then, nor was I a collector.

Dreamcast
RCA Studio II
Sega Master System
Commodore Vic 20 w/tape drive
A couple SNES systems
NIB Dreamcast Steering wheel
NIB Street Fighter arcade controller for the Genesis

I'm a huge packrat, so I've still got every system and game I've ever had, minus one Game Gear some turd stole from me in the 7th grade. Oh, and a Colecovision that stopped working before I learned how to walk.
I don't really count that one however, as I'd like to think that had I had full leg coordination, surely I would've walked it to a safe place before it met with whatever caused its demise, like some sort of strange, instinct-driven collector infant. Yeah, probably wishful thinking.
I regret not taking better care of my NES/SNES boxes and manuals when I was a kid though, as most of those are now long gone.

I was a big trader back in middle school--always searching a good trade. I got the bright idea to sell my Sega Master System since it was in my closet all packed away. I was into Genesis and didn't see me ever playing the old system any more. Every game I had was complete; I kept them neatly stacked in their cases at all times. Here's what I remember of value:
3-D glasses (perfect condition)
Space Harrier 3-D
Missile Defense 3-D
Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Shinobi World, and Lost Stars
Golden Axe Warrior
Spiderman (I think I had that)
Spellcaster
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
Probably a few others, but I think I sold it for a fair amount at the time...maybe $50. I hate myself for doing it because having my first childhood system still in excellent condition would be nice. I tried buying back a Master System, but it's just not the same. Every game I bought was of substandard quality when it came to overall condition of box, cart, etc.
Money-wise, that's not even the worst deal. I traded off a bunch of early 80's comic books (Spiderman, Green Lantern, and other popular heroes) for some crappy comic book character trading cards. I got the comic books for free from some old guy who had a booth at the local county fair. The guy I traded them to came back and told me the comic books were worth a few hundred bucks.:rockets:

I've always sold/traded stuff because I've never made much money and my parents while making great money don't like to spend it on my habbits. I've never really regretted trading or selling anything cause I usually do so when I'm through with the item. I did sell my wii though and kinda want that back now. Also gave away a sega genesis 3 to some kids in my family and the little brats never really used it and last I checked don't know where its at. Also lost my n64 while moving that sucks.

Ouch indeed. Loose $80 at least? Serious? Wow, just 2 years ago if you were patient you could find loose copies on eBay for $40-$45 shipped. $80? Holy moly.
And isn't it great to find old receipts from the '90s? Just something really cool about it. A couple years ago I found a receipt from '96 that showed me buying Ultimate Doom Collection for just $4.97 or so :)
As for worst regret... luckily I don't have much. My bro threw out his '94 EGM set in the late '90s, but I managed to buy back the issues in the '00s. Probably worst memory, if you can call it that, was my bro exchanging like 7 of our SNES games just to trade in for a brand new SNES NHL '97 at Funcoland. He admitted years later that that was a stupid decision on his part. I remember Sonic Triple Trouble (GG) gave us the most value at $12 store credit, surprisingly enough.

I sold a ton of stuff off at one point, including the following:
-Sealed JP AV Famicom
-Complete Wonderswan
-Sealed JP Superfami Jr
-My entire Saturn collection
-Sealed FF7 "Ultima Weapon" toy (the cooler of the 2, since it had the sword)
-My JP GBA I bought on launch day
-R4 (Ridge Racer 4) LE Jogcon Boxset
-My SCPH-10000 modified JP PS2 and all my JP PS2 games
-MANY PSX games I'd like back
-My mint complete CDX
I was also careless a couple times in college with parties at my place and I had some stuff get stolen, including a sealed LE ZOE2 JP Boxset. OUCH!
Back around 1993 or so, I sold 60 of my loose-kart NES games online for $200. These games consisted of most of the classic NES games from 1987-89 (except my 1st party games and a few others), including Castlevania, Contra, Trojan, Ikari Warriors, Golgo 13, Ninja Gaiden, Guardian Legend,...i could go on. I was a teenager and I used that money to buy an original Sega CD (a month or two before the newer, wider model came out). I wanted to play Lunar and a few other import FMV games on it.
While my experience with the Sega CD was fun, it was shortlived and definitely was not worth 60 games I cherished for several years. :frustrated:

I miss all my games that I gave away really :( except for ff x
