I've known about this place for a little while and finally decided to make the trip today. I go to Drexel University so it's only about a 8-10 block walk and it was worth it. They have the regular arcade machines, pinball, skee-ball, the basketball game, and other token-retrieving games but they also have some sweet cabs and pool tables. I didn't stick around for long, but they have a DDR-type machine, not exactly the same because the pad has the steps on the diagonals instead of up, down, left, and right. Let's see, they also had a Super Street Fighter II cab, one Arcana Heart cab, and THREE Marvel vs. Capcom 2 machines! Three! I walked in looked around and was like, "Cool, MvC 2, oh wait and another...oh shit! Another one!". They also had various racing games, Cruisin' Exotica and Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and some light-gun games, HOTD 2, Time Crisis 2, and a Ghost Squad I've never seen before. Unfortunately I now know how I will be spending my breaks between classes and my money for the rest of the spring and summer, which isn't a bad thing. I also hope to take some trips to this place with some of the guys from Next Level Videogames and those who regularly come to the South Jersey Classic. So, if anyone is in the Philly/South Jersey area you have to check this place out, the only bad thing I could come up with is that it is a little small, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make for a quality arcade in my area. :)

If anyone from the area wants to get together, we should make a trip over there and have some fun.

-Sal

P.S. I forgot to mention they are open from 8AM-Midnight Sunday through Thursday and 8AM-2AM on Friday and Saturday!

Just went there again yesterday and wanted to make some additions/corrections to my first post. They also have a Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike cab, 2 Soul Caliber II cabs, and a Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection cab which I failed to previously mention. Also, they have 2 Arcana Heart cabs, one is Arcana Heart Full which is the first Arcana Heart and they also have a Arcana Heart 2 cab. Also, most cabs are 25 or 50 cents, which is awesome. That's all for this update, as I continue to go and notice changes/updates of new games I will post them here.

I just visited University Pinball again last Friday and just would like to post an update.

Myself and a couple of other DPers and friends went to University Pinball for one reason and one reason only: Street Fighter 4. UP has two cabs set up for link play, which to my knowledge is the only way to play VS. matches. I'd like to comment on the game, but I'll wait until I have time to play the game and get used to it instead of getting my ass beat.

I just looked it up and Google Maps tells me it's 2 hours away so that means it's actually 45 minutes away from me:wink 2:

I plan on sometime in the near future of taking a trip, but because of my schedule it'll either be early Monday or Wednesday when I'll be going.

Went to University Pinball today with refan and had another great time. While most of my time was spent playing Street Fighter IV there were some new changes to the place. Most notably was the addition of a Melty Blood cabinet and a Capcom vs. SNK 2 cabinet. Also, every thing was only 25 cents a shot! So we played about 20 games of Street Fighter IV for 5 bucks a piece. Also there will be a SFIV tournament next Saturday for $10 a person and that $10 covers free play on all other machines. Just wanted to give everyone an update.

What the hell is a FIAL?!??? Let's use proper grammar and punctuation in our posts, so that maybe more than one person can understand what we are trying to say.

i go to upinnball every now and again. fairly recently they had a few 5-dollar-free-play nights; where you pay 5 bucks and play whatever you want as long as they're open. it's cool stuff if your legs can take it.

really to me it's a fighting game zone. a lot of MvC2's best east coast players gather there fairly often. I go there to try and get used to a joystick on 3rd strike (whenever i have the money, which is...almost never) and to play a bit of SF4, which was recently lowered from a dollar to 50 cents (thank god)...and it's a H2H kind of setup; not literally H2H but 2 cabs, one per player.

i don't usually see big queues for the other fighters, but again I'm not there all the time (I'm a temple student, it's not walking distance)...the one time people were actually playing SF3 was when SF4 first came out and people didn't want to wait in long lines to play the new game...that was a great time, because usually it's just my friends and i playing each other which we can do anywhere on campus.

they also have a SSFIIX cab, which is nice, if you like getting annihilated by the computer AI. also a few mame cabs or 500-in-1 kind of deals (one includes street fighter 1, which is always good for laughs)

on those, i recommend the old school (original SFII's, bubble bobble), or Money Puzzle Exchanger.

but in summary...it can be back-to-back crowded, but it's a decent fighting game scene. for some time they had everything-25c nights, and also the 5-dollar-free-play nights. so it's a good deal a lot of the time.

god its' late

Went to University Pinball again today and just wanted to let you guys know about it. First of all, myself and a few other board members went and mostly got our asses handed to us in Street Fighter IV (which is now officially 50 cents instead of $1) but some played some light gun and shooters as well and a good time was had by all. Also, I wanted to say that they have BlazBlue! I didn't get a chance to play it but I know that it is a much anticipated game and the cab was busy all day...hopefully others here at DP will have a chance to take advantage of this sweet arcade.

I was part of the crew that went today. There was indeed one guy who(though extremely nice and helpful, by way of explaining moves/mechanics for each character) won 20 straight matches. It was fun overall. I will definitely go back again.

Yeah the one guy who was beating everybody the first day or so it was out was pretty helpful, might even be the same guy (I think he works there, anyway)

I heard a rumor (not from the most dependable source) that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is incoming. I know they have it at 8 on the Break (in Jersey), and have been loving it on friends' Wiis. Can't wait to see what some of the best Marvel players will do to each other on that game if it comes to UPinball - at least, DemonHyo is very into it.

The other interesting thing, by the way, is that TvC is going to be at Super Battle Opera '09. Generally the US players are nothing compared to the Japanese except for two games: Smash Brothers and MvC2. Since TvC is considered part of the "Vs. Series" it would be nice to have US players win, for once, at SBO.

I went this past Sunday with some guys again, nobody was really there when we arrived so I finally got to hop on BlazBlue, and let me tell you that the game is beautiful. Some of the best 2D I have ever seen. The game overall handles well, its based around throws which is a cool twist of sorts. I played straight through on one credit until I hit Stage 9 where someone must have called SNK for Boss Character tips because the guy was hard as hell. I walked away after a few more credits were used, played roughly 30 rounds(3 rounds to win a fight). I played SF4 for most of the day though, I can't wait for the console release.

I really wanted to play BlazBlue last time I went there (which was also the first time I'd been there) but it was never free the entire time I was there :( Good to hear that it plays well, hopefully someday it'll be free lol.

Also can't wait for SFIV console release.

After not giving any updates for a while and having been to University Pinball many times since I last gave an update, I just want to say that University Pinball now has Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and I enjoy it much more in the arcade than I do on the Wii...that is all.

Yeah I'm surprised that I didn't suck too hard on it, even though I use PTX-40A...

I had a dude walk away from the cab calling me cheap for using a "boss" character, because I jabbed him out of his Ryu super. I wanted to explain that it's pretty easy to deal with the 'bots, and that they're in fact bottom tier, but...he was off ranting to a friend or something by that point.

I got to play Demon Hyo (the MvC2 player) in it, and won with PTX...but I'm guessing he wasn't putting all his effort in. SF4 also wasn't too busy and I got a bunch of rounds with Zangief (I believe this was a Thursday) so all-in-all it was a pretty good night

I stopped in U.P. a few weeks ago and was dismayed to find the right joystick on Raiden II is still broken.
It has been broken for more than 8 years, and when I used to live nearby, I would usually tell/ask them about it, and they'd always say "we'll look at it"

At least I could play some good pinball.

I'm definitely going to have to check this place out. I need to find out what the fuss is about with arcane heart and blazblue.

What is there pinball selection like?

Anyone in the pa area should also check out challenge arcade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMlJL07pDtg).

Hey everyone, I just wanted to give a University Pinball update from my visit last night. As usual there were some changes to the arcade, some good, some not so good. First off, the good news: King of Fighters XII is up and running, as well as Melty Blood. The bad news: BlazBlue has disappeared. I don't know why, but KOFXII has replaced BlazBlue and personally I don't really care because I didn't find BlazBlue that interesting and KOFXII was pretty fun. Other than that, some machines got shifted around and there is a Guitar Hero Arcade machine that has been added to the lineup. Please visit this awesome arcade and keep it busy so it sticks around and continues to be awesome!
