Apparantely, my 360's wireless controller has become self-aware

It seems that my 360's controller has a mind of it's own, lately.

Physically, the controller is centered fine. But every game I play, the controller tends to want to keep moving up or forward.

It's negatively affecting my playing. And it makes games like Ikaruga and Triggerheart Exellica virtually impossible to play. It's also gotten me killed several times while playing GTA 4 - especially the "Luck of the Irish" mission. All of a sudden, Niko just walks off the roof to his death, when I'm not even touching the analog stick.

Is anyone else suffering from this, or is it just me? It's starting to piss me off. And I don't wanna have to buy a new controller.

On May 1st, 2008 at exactly 7:23PM diskoboy's Xbox 360 controller became self aware. It started learning at a geometric rate. At 9:11pm it launched it's missiles at the targets in Russia, knowing that a Russian counter attack would eliminate it's enemies overseas.

You must send back a T-1000 to before your controller became aware to find and terminate the threat; remember, the future is not yet set, there is no fate but what we make.

On a related note, are you touching the joystick during loading or game start up, I remember this used to happen to my N64 controller all the time, till I realized that games were calibrating the analog stick during start up, so if I was pushing it foward by accident the game would think that was the default setting for center and game charaters would just start moving in whatever direction the stick was held to.

Yeah, I've noticed that what slip81 said happens a lot.

ALSO, in more worn-down controllers, the stick sometimes won't return to its center position and will continue to physically lean in a certain direction by itself. You could look closely to see if that's happening. If that's the case, your controller is worn down. I don't know how to fix that besides getting a new one.

rotate both analog sticks around in circles a dozen or so times. The firmware in the controller will try to reset the dead zone. If that doesn't work, then the analog stick is too far gone and you'll need to get a new controller.
