In fact, the game recommends that players make use of a taxi once drunk.

Man, when I first saw Niko drunk, trying to walk around and falling repeatedly, my Girlfriend and I were laughing so hard :)

MADD is going to have to take a number... There are always several organizations and groups that boycott and protest against GTA releases....

I don't even see why anybody bothers with protesting against GTA anymore. Its been around since the 90s and has seen 9 different releases. Not only that, but they have made the stories and action more explicit every time they release a new one. All its going to do is make everybody roll there eyes. Well, I'm off to go drive drunk because GTA told me to, see ya later guys.

i lol'd at one of the comments on kotaku:

"these broads need to relax and have a drink"

and like someone else mentioned, they're protesting about drunk driving in a game where you can murder hundreds (potentially thousands) of people. if they want to complain about something, seems like their priorities are a little out of order.

If it was up to some of the zealots at MADD, any time someone took a drink in TV, movies, or games, they should automatically die. Of course, no one supports drunk driving, but MADD has been out of touch for years now.

Many of the original/founding members have left because of the moralistic preaching tone it takes now, versus actually trying to educate people (especially younger ones) about drunk driving.

A couple of years ago, here in Minneapolis, they were protesting city hall because bars were allowed to stay open until 2 AM, which by their accounts would result in the streets being lined with blood.

Well there are idiots in any group, collectors who make comments like that are friggin idiots and unable to win people over to their cause in a proper manner.
She is not helping her cause with comments/remarks like that.

MADD is retarded. They will say anything to extrapolate any issue to drunk driving, reason be damned.

They probably are exaggerating simply to gain the free publicity that they are getting and to promote awareness...

I don't think it is a bad idea for them to have publicity even if their means is inappropriate...

MADD is just jumping on the GTA bashing bandwagon here. GTA 4 isn't even the first game to allow you to drive drunk. World of Warcraft has allowed players to get smashed and carelessly ride their mount while intoxicated. And yet they haven't complained about this game that millions of subscribers have been playing for years.

Besides, did Kotaku not say that the game encourages players not to drive drunk and shows the dangers of drunk driving?

I don't get it, I thought GTAIV has a few missions that show you what happens when you're drunk - namely, how your vision and moving abilities are impaired.

If I was with MADD, I would be happy that the game shows the player how being drunk may affect your senses.

I wonder how Rockstar will joke about this in the next game.

I don't get how people can totally miss the satire that permeates the GTA games.

P.S. Those "Degenetron" commercials in "Vice City" were the funniest ones in the game.

Didn't Vice City (cant remember which one) have you drive drunk or high also? Why didnt they bring this up back then?

GTA 4 is so so so so bad. Although I can find many other "influences" just as bad in today's world. It's just a video game. Get over it.

It's really hard to drive drunk in GTA4 it gets real old real fast, I haven't made use of a taxi yet but I will in the future.

I didn't even know MADD was still around. Rather than spending their time on this they should just go to bar parking lots and offer free rides home or something, what a waste of their resources.

In the history of boycotting games, has it ever worked? That's not a rhetorical question, I really don't know.

I miss "Married with Children".

I'm also sad that Ed O'Neil somehow couldn't be the voice of that male cyclops that Leela was going to marry. :(

How about MADD came to my old high school yesterday to give a presentation on the "Alcohol: Modern Day Dangers and Death". At the end of the presentation my sister (who attended this) was one of the students chosen to go on stage an try on those lovely beer goggles that impair your vision.

After she did the "line walk" she told the MADD representative that is as bad as my brother's Grand Theft Auto game. From what she told me, as did her friend, the woman went on a twenty minute rant about the dangers of videogames and how they force children to drink and drive. Also she recommended that she throw away my game and to plead with me to stop "condoning drunk driving". Got to love those nut jobs.
