The game just got rated by the ESRB, so everybody know what that means. Do you think it will effect the price of the SNES cart???

No. People paying $150.00+ for a boxed complete copy of EarthBound aren't paying that simply to be able to just play the game alone.

I just posted this on the Virtual Console thread. But yeah, this is awesome news. The seventy dollar asking price for the cart should go down to around thirty to forty bucks.

I want the game price to go down. I want to play it but not for $70.

hell the completes have gone up on the past year. they used to be $150...I've seen them go as high as $250-$300 which is just retarded. here's hoping it comes down a bit as it's not that rare to begin with.
May be wishful thinking though, as I've noticed that VC titles have also made new fans of some of the games and thus increased demand for originals as opposed to decrease.
The rating doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to come out anytime soon. Super Mario RPG was rated a year ago or so and it's still not on the VC yet.

Hopefully they would not tease us like that.

I could see it maybe have a small effect on loose carts but complete copies will only continue to go up over time.

Super Mario RPG was taken off the official ESRB ratings list a few months ago. So it may not ever come out, due probably to licensing issues with Square-Enix. But Act-Raiser is out, so who knows whats going on.

has this happened with other games that came out on the VC? and while were at it has the price of Castlvania: rondo of blood droped since the remake came out?
as was already said people paying $70+ for the cart aren't buying it just to play the game. i think some people forget that ROMs have been around for years and years and they are free.

first post just made my day. I can't wait to purchase the original cart at a reasonable price.

Having free access to roms never really seemed to effect the price of games too much. There's just something about owning the "feelies"...somethign real and physical that makes the actual game more desirable.

I'd like to think that if everyone and his dog buys this game on the VC, Nintendo might be persuaded to release Mother 3 in the US. Get to it, people!

Earthbound on the vc shouldn't have an affect on the cart price. I am saying that because I doubt the vc release of Harvest moon affected the Snes cart price. The cart price for Harvest moon was over $40.00
An Esrb rating doesn't mean a lot in terms when the game gets released. Don't get excited about Earthbound getting an Esrb rating as result.
Vectorman, E-Swat, Crackdown, Shining Force and Pro Wrestling hasn't be released yet, despite have an Esrb rating for a long time.

We dont need them to release it, the translation is being done at the moment(starmen.net), and will come out MUCH sooner than Nitendo's 2000-never release while the fan translation will be done in October. Besides, Nintendo would just practically rewrite the game to suit "western tastes" and remove any 'objectionable material.' They can Fuk themselves for not releasing it.

This question comes up everytime a "rare" game comes on XBLA, PSN or VC.
SOTN is a prime example, the price hasn't dropped, but continued to rise.

the only times I've ever seen the value drastically drop on games is mainly when GDQ does reprints of certain titles. It also depends on which system collectors want. Atari 2600 games used to get a decent amount for the rare ones, now they don't so much.

I undertand what you are saying but SOTN want $75+ on ebay. Is this game the "most expensive" collector type game to come out on VC?

I still email Nintendo trying to get them to release the NWC carts on VC.
$10 easily spent.

No there have been others but to be honest I don't follow VC that much. SOTN was on XBLA too.
Sin and Punishment is another one.

Along similar lines....
I had hoped the price of Valkyrie Profile on the PS1 would drop when the PSP remake was released...never happened...
I thought I heard a rumor of Panzer Dragoon Saga coming out in the not too distant future...maybe not have been on VC though...

It may not be reasonable of me but I'll keep hoping beyond reason it does. I've wanted to play the game for years and while I could do it on emulation, I refuse to.

Wow, I'm surprised it's so high. I bought the game new back when I was a kid, but even then, I had to put in a special order at Babbages. I still have the guide, though it's gotten a bit worn over the years. I don't have the scented cards anymore, though I remember some of the smells all too well...
Hey... WHY don't we have games with smell-stuff anymore? Having smells to associate with the game made it all that much more interesting and quirky. I don't think that any other game I've ever seen had such a thing, which is really a shame.

One of the Leisure Suit Larry games came with Smell-O-Vision, a scratch and sniff card. Copies of the game that still have the card can go for lots of money on eBay.
And let's not forget Strawberry Shortcake (http://gameoftheblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/x-treme-gaming-update-strawberry.html)...

AFAIK, Sega has stated Saturn emulation will never happen on the Wii. First, it's way too difficult (it requires a capable computer nowadays just to get it mostly right; the Wii is significantly less powerful); and second, the ISOs themselves would be too large to be economical, due to limited storage space on the Wii. If the Wii supported external hard drives, that wouldn't be an issue, but the first still would be.

I don't think it will affect complete copies and copies with the guide. As for cart only copies, they may go down, but I wouldn't expect a huge decrease.
No matter what happens, I'm glad I was lucky enough to get a cart only copy for $4, and the guide for 49 cents.

Yea I sould love to get the game for $4. I just want to play it on a real machine, not some emulator.
