I am new here and just want to say hello first and fore most. I made it out to the store once and it was a very enjoyable experience even thou it took a few hours to get there. A utopia for gamers. Anyways to my question.
Now it would seem this has been asked alot but no one has really given a straight out forward anwser. I recently accuired Terranigma(Pal) complete and am wondering what i need to do to have it play on my US system. Any help is greatly appreciated. If i have to purchase something special can you direct me to what i need specifically and where i could get it. Also are there any other Pal releases that are worth picking up that didn't make it to the US?
Thank You
Jason

no offense to DefaultGen, but PLEASE do not damage the cartridge, this is a valuable game and when you are done playing with it, it will probably sell for a good value.

you can get a converter that allows you to play Japanese Famicom game on your US Super Nintendo, it worked on my SNES. But i am not sure where to get them besides Ebay. you can ask around or search on the web. or maybe it would be easier for you to get a used PAL SNES?

What are you talking about? He said nothing about modifying the cartridge but instead removing the two small tabs down in the SNES cartridge slot that prevent import games from fitting.

I personally wouldn't modify the SNES. Instead you can get the adapter for your SNES on Ebay. Probably 20-40 from the looks of current auctions.

If you do go the way of the adaptor, be leery about which one you choose. Not all of them can get Terranigma (among other games with PAL Protection) to work on a non-PAL SNES.

The only adaptors I know that work are the Pro Action Replay 3 and certain versions of the Pro Action Replay 2.

Breaking the tabs is easy. If you get the right size pliers, it will break nice and clean.

Can someone point me to a store or ebay listing that has these adaptors because i am having a rather hard time locating them?

Breaking the tabs will NOT allow PAL games to play on an NTSC system.

MasterJSP is correct. You need a PAR2 aka PAR MK2, with BIOS 2.P ot 2.T (ask seller to check what it says on the title screen on power up) or a PAR3 aka PAR MK3. Do not buy a lower version number PAR2 because the game won't save.

do they have any of these units available anywhere?

Ebay would be your best bet.

It's too bad that Terranigma uses the extra 2 sets of pins, otherwise a common game genie would be all that you need. Good luck!

Terranigma doesn't have the extra connectors. A Game Genie won't work for playing PAL imports as there's no second cart slot.

That's all you need to know right up there.

That's Pro Action Replay Mk[that's 'mark'] 2 or 3. You'd be better off forgetting the Mark 2 completely and just getting a 3: that way you don't have to mess with BIOS version numbers. if you do end up getting a 2, make sure the PAR BIOS is either 2.P or 2.T. When the PAR boots up it'll display the BIOS number on the menu screen.

You can find both kinds on Ebay and occasionally on Amazon. And of course you can always post a WTB in the buying and selling forum here on DP.

Which is the "right" version of the game for us Americans to get to play? I know the French version is out because it's in French...so any of the Euro versions? What about AUS?

Either the Australian or UK version should do.

So, I've read confirmations that various Pro Action Replay 1.x BIOS versions don't work with Terranigma, and that 2.T and 2.P do. Does anyone know if 2.J works? (It's the only I've been able to find so far, and I've been looking quite a while)

The PAR MK3 is a fairly rare thing (I have one, but I was never able to get Pal carts to work, probably it was busted). Really your best (and even possibly cheapest) route is to get someone to put a bypass switch in your snes (or a spare snes) so that it bypasses the lockout chip in the cart. If you are handy at soldering, you could probably easily do it yourself. There are likely guides within this forum that will tell you how to do it. Alternatively, you can buy a Pal snes, but then you would need proper power converters, which aren't exactly cheap either.

Yeah, I know the bypass switch route, but I'd really rather not use that if I can avoid it at all. I'm not handy at soldiering, and although I know someone who is, I'd still rather have an unmodified SNES.

I've never seen a PAR MK3 for sale, anywhere, no website, nothing. I've seen enough PAR MK2s, but they're never the right BIOS. Which is why I'd like to know if anyone's tried the 2.J version? I've never seen a post confirming one way or the other for that one.

Thanks,
Gamercoon

No you don't. Just use an US power adaptor which outputs 9V ;)

amazing how much misinformation is in this thread

US SNES adapters don't even fit in a PAL SNES

could this be why the JP version of Uno won't work with my Game Genie or with my Honeybee converter cart? I can't figure out why it won't work in my US system. Is there some kind of region lockout with that game, or what? I'd really like to play it, but I don't wanna waste anymore money on getting a Pro Action Replay to try it out with, if it still won't work in my US system.

Super Uno? Japanese games do not have software lockout from US machines as I recall plus it's not very new either, 1993.

As for the topic, Terranigma is a great import idea and one of the few in English for those in the US and Canada. PAR2's come up now and again but for a sure bet the PAR3 is the way to go. My friend got one and Terranigma and has no issues since. Shame as both items would be a bit expensive. Trying searching on some European sites (even outside UK) for a PAR3 as they can be found a little easier that way.

And we wonder why ROMS of this game are so popular.
