WHAT? AND THIS HAPPENED TO A NEWCOMER?
Man, that's terrible, I feel bad, I would put in money to buy the guy another copy. It really sucks that this happened on his first NAVA.

Had a blast at NAVA as always. Next month will be a big deal, as long as I can get a certain someone to DEFINITELY say he'll be there. As soon as I get the phone call, expect a message blast.
That sucks that a game was stolen. Darrin from PBC was recently robbed and had his 360 AND PS3 stolen, a bunch of other 360 games, DS games, PSP games, and DVDs.

That sucks that people got stuff stolen, and also what happened to Darrien sucks too. I guess you gotta watch out like a hawk. I know it's not anybody from the NAVA community because we wouldn't do anything like that.
Sucks we missed it again this year, but FunSpot is once a year and we'll be back next month for sure. And I shall bring the might and the power known as the "Triple Bypass Mac n' Cheese" So beware.
Anybody know who got the highest score in the NWC cart? I really wish I would have had the chance to play a gold one, I've played a gray a couple of times, and I got over a million on it.

Nobody touched your score, Nick. Unfortunately, the controller was really sticky which caused problems in Mario and especially Tetris. It made it very difficult to speed the blocks up, which cost precious time. I got a 189,000 which had me in 4th place when we left, but I know the tournament was won by the dude who wins most of those tournaments, can't think of his name right now.

Could it be...SAL?!
That dude is inhuman. Even screwing him up on purpose is hard.

Sounds like what happened the first time I played the NWC cart. They just took the game out, put it in a NES Clone and put a bum controller in.
The down and up were messed up so playing Tetris and trying to hit the turbo in Rad Racer was a pain in the ass.

It wasn't the controller that was the problem, it was one of two things :
The NWC cartridge from RetroUSB.com itself (running on ANY hardware)
or
The NWC cartridge from RetroUSB.com itself (running on ANY NES CLONE hardware)
as we tried to run this tourney before on a Generation NEX, a Gen X, and a FC Twin with the same results in Tetris and elsewhere ... both times it could have just been the cartridge being flaky or having bad software burned onto the chips ... OR it could be that the only way to get it to run is via official Toaster or Top-Loader NES, which we haven't tried.
Seriously, Sal is a great guy, this isn't a knock on him as a person or a gamer - as he's clearly a nice guy and a STELLAR player, but he's won nearly every. single. tournament. (probably all of them) over the past year that he's participated in ... it makes any other serious competitor wonder if it's even worth trying when he's involved.

Sal's an awesome guy, but he's just too damn good.

Sal is the Lucas Barton of NAVA, too bad we don't have a Jimmy Woods yet.

Here's a thought: why not set two prizes for the next tournament? One for winning the tournament and the other (more grander) prize when you beat the champ (Sal) in a match.

While I haven't been around much recently to witness his domination, I remember him not always winning. Could it be attributed to less older (not in age, but people that have been coming to NAVA for a longer period of time) NAVA attendies not coming? I know JOHN HARDIE is never around anymore, Lord of the Files isn't always there, Chandler hasn't come lately, Drexel has had his own store for a while, I have only come a few times in the past year, etc. Of course, this assumes we are all gods of gaming, but that is true for the most part, except in the case of Chandler. ;)

Hmm, so much for the claim on RetroUSB's site about it working in all NES type systems. The Gray version at the VGXPO ran fine in the front loading Generation NEX, maybe it needed the ol' rubbing alcohol and q-tips?
Hopefully it'll be a part of the PBC Starcade, I'd love to play it again.

LOL could be the case. However if you remember starcade it is all about the arcade cabinets, not the consoles. Oh I wonder if we are going to see Brett v James v Sal @_@

Being that May's NAVA was my first, has Joe ever used an NES 2 top loader for the events?

I would have won last time, if it wasn't for my hair getting in my eyes.

Your long, flowing locks got in everyones eyes last time. You really need to cut that thing, I think it's getting sentient.

I'll bring my toaster with me to the next NAVA if you need a reliable system. It's from 85' but I cleaned it up nice and gave it a new pin connector too.

No need to do that. We have plenty of working toaster NES systems with new 72 pin connectors. We just use the Retro Duo at NAVA because it plays both systems and that's always a good thing. I won't use it for tournament play ever again.
And I don't use the toploader because it only has an RF out. Our HDTV's don't have an RF input.

Well there are mods out there to get AV hookups on a NES2 for $40 bucks
