Hello. I have a purple-ish color NES cover. My wife claims to have never seen one before, as do all of my friends that used to game. I can take pics if needed, but I want to know if these are common or not. I don't care about value (if it even has any), I just want to know if it's common and where it came from. I don't remember buying it separetly as a young kid, so that is why I'm curious. Thanks for any help.

So what's the deal with this thing?
I've never seen one before.

I've seen one at the flea one time. Didn't really bother to pick it up, though. The only reason she had it on the NES was to cover up the fact that it didn't have the lid on the NES.

This is only the 3rd I've ever seen. There was a black one on Ebay in a lot a while back, and mine which is a blue-green.

What's up Nat? I don't know where I got this thing? I've had it for so long I don't remember. My NES I got in like 87', and it's the same one I have now. I haven't actually collected stuff for it over the years, I just kept what I had. I found this thing last year sometime in a little box with my NES Max controllers. We were too poor to get alot of accessories as kids, so I can't see my mother buying a cover for the NES:?

I've owned two of those in my lifetime and both were black.
The first one my mom bought when NES was still current, the 2nd one I found on ebay after years of searching for it.
I wasn't aware it came in purple.

The cover looks a little familiar (I think it reminds me of a vcr cover), but I don't remember these for the NES.

Anyone else? I looked around some NES sites today and couldn't find one like it:frustrated:

Check the NintendoAGE database under "acessories" (I think you need to be a member to search the database). I tried searching for it as "Cover" but nothing came up. If you knew the exact name I'm sure you could find it.

And what exactly is the purpose of this item?

It's a dust cover, I've got a black one.

Yeah, it's just a dust cover. It is made with cut-outs so that you don't have to unplug the controllers, a/v or r/f, or the power supply.

I sold my black one on ebay, I think it went for $6. about 6 months ago.

Hey, did it have the Nintendo logo on top like mine?

I have a generic cover that is similar to this one in my possession (also black). the material isn't as nice and it doesn't have the "Nintendo" logo...other than that is looks pretty similar.

I too had a blue-green cover for the Nintendo system like your purple one. My mom was so paranoid about dust when I was a kid so she bought the cover for the system and a ton of the hard clear plastic game covers with the Nintendo logo on the bottom right. I still have the game covers no idea where the system cover went though.

I had a black one a couple years ago. I think that I sold it to someone on here, but of course, my mind is failing me.

Right, so the dust collects on the cover instead of the NES. I'm still not sure I see the point.

Can you wash your NES in the sink?

The average NES system will blink when even a single piece of dust is *ANYWHERE* on the system. The dust cover is there to prevent the dust from making contact and causing the system to not work properly.
Or the cover is there for those who are lazy and don't want to dust their system....like me.
These came in a few different colors, such as black, blue, pink, green, red, and likely a few others I'm missing. They're not common, but they do show up in lots every now and then. Finding one sealed in it's original packaging on the other hand is tough. Value-wise, not much, maybe a few bucks.
