I won a copy of Silver this past weekend on eBay. Well, it showed up today.

I decided to test it as soon as it got here to see if the save battery was dead or alive. It turns out that it does work! I almost started a new game, but I always check the previous save before I do.

I didn't expect to see one with 16 Badges, 207 in the Pokedex and 351:32 logged....

I know there was a similar question asked not long ago, but I ask you:

What would you do? Would you go ahead and delete the file to start your own? I am fairly torn due to the sheer amount of time and effort put into the save file that exists... Opinions?

Hmm, that is a lot of effort put into that. But if someone's given it up, they must not care too much anymore, or where somehow separated from it.

I tend to transfer over some pokemon from old saves if I buy used carts. At the least you could take their most well-trained, stuff they put time into, so they can live on, or something.

I've looked a bit more into the account and found a few things...

Most of the Pokemon in the HoF are over 50 times each....

There are a few nice Pokemon in the boxes:

Lvl 100 Mew
Lvl 100 Mewtwo
Lvl 100 Blastoise
Lvl 100 Venusaur
Lvl 50 Charizard
Two of the Shiny Red Gyrados
A full set of Unown

.... Honestly, the list just goes on. I'm thinking I might keep the save and either try to find a GBC Memory Card or try to find a way to backup the save on my PC....

There are some options out there for GB/GBC memory save backups. They're worth getting even just for your own personal records. I would get one and use it on this save for sure.

Any particular option you'd suggest?

Just stick them all into Pokemon Stadium 2 and for a game as awesome as Pokemon Silver, I would totally delete it and start my own epic quest.

I don't even play pokemon and I agree. XD

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the one that I have at home...it's been at least four or five years since I've played with it. I'll have to PM you the name of it when I get back and have a chance to dig through the drawer where I know it's located. I want to say that it was made by the same company that made the GB / GBC GameShark device, but can't entirely vouch for that.

I do remember taking my R/B save games and transferring them to the other cartridge - was kind of interesting. Gold and Silver wouldn't let you do that, though...too many differences between the two.

Anything odd happen when you did that, calthaer?

just leave it. Remember that most pokemon games are the same so just get another one form the long list of options. Diamond and pearl are both great games and well worth it compared to the others. I did the same thing with yellow a while back. I don't see the point in deleting a good file on a game I well don't have to play now. I can invest that time in my diamond file or my fire red file.

As an avid player of the Pokémon games, I would try to backup the data before wiping it. I used a GameShark to back up my old Silver data, which still works, and can use it with emulators fine.

As the previous poster said, if you could get another copy cheaply, go ahead and do that. And if you haven't played Diamond or Pearl, pick one of those up.

Keep in mind its next to impossible to have a mew on that generation of pokemon games (it was an extremly limited event) the mew is most likely hacked (although there is a very very very obscure glitch in red/blue that can get you mew without hacking) still 350 hours is quite a long time to just erase.

it reminds me of a copy of saga 2 for gb (final fantasy legend 2) it had 3 save files one about halfway through the game, one rather early, the third had just an incredible party on it, all stats were maxed out and all items were all the insanely best items you could get in the game (parasuit, Glass sword, and 7 sword) everything was aparently legit, I coudln't bring myself to ever delete it, till one day I was just playing through the game and stupidly saved over the god like save! sad thing is I have a device to back up gb saves, but I never used it. (still kicing myself to this day as I could have backed it up and been able to mess with it)

i've noticed most japanese rpgs i pick up always seem to have that godlike save on it.
