I'd like to know how to transfer images from the Game Boy Camera to my PC. I know it's possible! Has anyone here ever done this?
I've got a project in the works where this would do very nicely. Thanks!

I think the mighty Captain Wrong did just that for his old avatar. :)

Yeah, I built the little cable thingy for mine. Pretty simple, really. The only problem is that there are a few different schematics floating around. Best to loosely assemble it first & test it out before soldering anything permenantly.
There's supposed to be a 3rd party cable, but I could never find it.

I asked the same question to "gulag picture radio" over at AA a while back and this is what he said...

wow! How did you get your gameboy camera picture into your pc?? :?
I used to just scan the crummy printouts from the Game Boy Printer, but those don't scan remarkably well. There are two high quality ways to get pictures digitally out of your Game Boy Camera.
Mad Catz makes a cable (usually easy to find on Ebay or half.com for $5-10) that goes from the Game Boy port to your parallel port. You tell the GB to print the photo, and software on your PC "captures" the file as a GIF. It's nice since you also get the cool Nintendo borders etc. as part of your graphic.
The way that I do it is I have a Game Boy "Flash Linker" which is used to write to a Flash ROM cart that plays in a GB. This way you can play homebrew games on an actual GB unit instead of in an emulator. The Linker can also also download the saved files off of a cart, and there's a PD program that can convert the saved file into a series of GIF's. It's a bit involved, but very cool. Much faster than the printer emulation that I mentioned above.
These Flash ROM writers are remarkably hard to find, and are pretty expensive (I think that mine was $80 with a 16M cart). Nintendo doesn't like them since they can be used to play pirated games as well. I got it for using with a couple of homebrew music apps and the Game Boy Camera. I gotta put up a gallery of my photos some time. I took a ton in Prague.

Here ya go, Joe. He even made color pics with the damn thing using filters...Man.
I actually worked with this guy for some time in getting the GameGear hooked to a TV...we had some mild success, but not total success.

OK I browsed a few sites that talk about it, and they do refer back to the Mad Catz PC Camera Link... but that product is long out of production and I don't see any on eBay or half.com or a half-dozen other places online.
Any "sellers" here or people who know where to find one? I'd be forever in your debt until the day after tomorrow.

Heh, check my member photo.
I got my link cable directly from Mat Catz about 2 years ago. It was off the shelf, but they still had a few. Don't know if they still have any kicking around or not.
Actually, I haven't used it since upgrading my OS to Windows XP, so I don't even know if I can still use the damn thing.
I know there's some homebrew solutions out there, but they seemed like a lot of work. What do you need to do? Maybe I can help you out.

If you want to see what the guts of a homebrew cable look like, look here (http://labwww.csv.cmich.edu/luke/videogames/Nintendo/GameBoy/GameBoyPrinterEmuCable/). Pretty simple, really. It all fits into a DB25 shell, also.
If you have no luck finding the Mad Catz cable, I could build you one.

Didn't the Game Shark for GBC also come with that cable? IIRC the Game Shark for Pocket/Color had the option for transferring picture. I'd have to find my Game Shark and my GB Camera to check this.
FWIW you could find the old Game Shark for GBC at various Kmart for about $15-$20. (overpriced yeah but hey it's local and not online with overpriced shipping padded ;) )

Hmm. I don't have one of those either! Let me know if that's the case and I'll add that to my tracking and hunting list.
Thanks, everyone.

Hello --
Are you looking for this (not my auction):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3018588785&category=3569
If so, I have one new (never used) in the box and would gladly sell or trade it. It has the link, CD, instructions, etc. I am on AtariAge's good trader list so you can trust me :) .
Take care,
RG

Hey Joe, I have the GB camera PC link. If you can make/find a link cable, I could burn the program disc for ya...
