I know I got a good deal, even after $26 shipping. Grand total was $82 and change. My question is, HOW GREAT of a deal? Here's the list of included items:

1 Sega Master System - Looks good. AC Adaptor behind it
1 Sega Genesis System - Model 2, either dusty or camera glare. AC adaptor behind SMS
8 Controllers - Two SMS pads, three 3-button Genisis, and three 6-button Genisis
Laser Gun - Looks like the SMS phaser, though possibly with tape on it? Did it have those colored bands?

Needs Tv Hook-Up. Could Not Find It ...Systems Do Work And Put In Storage In My Closet..Kids All Grown Up Now..

-I'm not sure if this means one/both video cable(s) is/are missing. At any rate, I can probably get a Genisis AV or RF after work Tuesday. SMS, not sure. I feel like I read somewhere that NES/SNES RFs work?

I did my best to get the titles right, but I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the sports titles.

I should get it all Monday or Tuesday. I have no idea what condition individual games are in, aside from the fact that several have manuals and/or boxes.

I'm looking for a general idea of how much everything's worth. Going by my crappy spreadsheet and some values from here, Amazon, and that free pdf game collector magazine, the games are adding up to... $220? That can't be right...can it? I'm also unsure as to the platform of many games, as a lot were released on both SMS and Genisis. Is Toejam & Earl REALLY worth $40 (Amazon sellers)?

I suck at valuation, but I would put it more in the 150 range for it broken up, less as a lot. There are a couple titles I don't recognize, though, so there could be a sleeper or two that bump the value up. Too tired to look them up right now.

For hookups, yeah, pretty much any rf switch thing will work, including the NES. The Gen 2 has a special connector for a/v or rf. There is a 5-pin a/v cord for the SMS that I think is worthwhile, and can be had fairly cheaply on ebay, though they won't be original, and may have an unused audio channel.

Toe Jam looks like it is all over the place. Some lucky eBay seller recently unloaded one loose for 56, while an unlucky one had a sale on a complete one for about 20. Wild! Things don't usually vary that much in my experience, especially not against the grain condition-wise.

Hmmm. I'm more than happy with $150, considering I was looking for a Genesis with a few games. I wanted to pay ~$20 for the Genisis and didn't mind spending a bit more to get a collection starter, so I think I lucked out.

I'm not sure how it's all going to arrive. Considering that the seller is NOT a game person, I wouldn't be surprised if they just picked up that blanket it's all sitting on in the pic and shoved it all in a box.

So my RF adaptors WILL work? With both? They have that single-plug RCA-type thing on the back?

It will work with the SMS, but not the Genesis. The gen has a plug that looks a little like an s-video connector, but it is clearly different and has 4 or 5 small pins. If you are buying one outright, skip the rf and get the a/v.

Actually, both consoles use standard RF connectors. It's only the AV connector that is non-standard. (Unfortunately, you got a model 2, so you can't share adapters, as the two consoles aren't compatible.)

The Saturn, on the other hand, does not have a standard RF connector.

EDIT: It just occurred to me that I've never inspected a model 2 Genesis. It could indeed use a non-standard connector for RF video. If so, that's one more mark on my list of reasons to use a model 1 :)

It does, I'm pretty sure the same connector the Gen 3 uses too.

I was watching that auction as well. It was a relist from a $56 (or near that) buy it now that nobody bit on. He relisted it with a starting bid of $10 with the same buy it now. Pretty sure nobody bid until the last day. Personally I don't think it's worth the money as hardly any of the games are complete and the only biggie is ToeJam and Earl (the only reason I was watching it). If you're pleased with it though then that's all that matters.

Yeah, I was the only bidder. Someone else bid, but was removed for having under 5 feedback ratings. The reserve was at least 53, so I just outright bought it.

Is the Saturn A/V cable the same thing as a Genesis A/V cable? S-Video looking thing, not sure how many pins)

I can't confirm first-hand, but I was told by someone on here who would know that they are not the same.

I found the pinout (http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/saturnav.htm), doesn't match up (http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/genesisav.htm).

I do, however, have several PC video card output dongles with the same 9-pin layout, though the top three pins are equally spaced. If I can bend that pin enough to fit on a component-video dongle (which I don't use), then is there any chance that it could be wired the same way a typical Geneis stereo A/V cable is? Everything I have is S-Video size, which is a tad smaller than the Saturn's din.

Back in the day I used to create SMS and Genesis video cables from old DB5 keyboard cables (remember the old fat keyboard plug?). I would just cut the cable off, splice it, get a pair of old a/v cables, and splice those to it. I'd plug it into the SMS, turn it on, and simply touch the wires until I got video and audio...then electrical tape them together. It does work great...providing you have an old keyboard laying around :) With the talk of cables I just remembered that. Won't help you for the Genesis II, but it'll work for that good ol' SMS you got there.

Correct, the plugs are different shape. While the Genesis 2 multi out cable has a rounded outer groud, the Saturn's is mushroom shaped. That and well, the pins don't match either.

Because the only thing it easily outputs is RF? The Model 1 Genesis uses an equally as nonstandard multi out cable, that only outputs mono sound at that. For stereo you need to run a cable from the headphone jack that splits into a pair of standard RCA connections. I hardly say any of these things give the Model 1 an advantage over the Model 2. If anything the JVC X'Eye is the way to go as it supports the standard Model 2 DIN (for using the 32X) as well as standard RCA sockets - the built in faster than standard Sega CD drive is a nice feature as well. ;)

Of course, there are ways around the nonstandard connection with both of them...

Check to see if any of our sms titles are re released bluue cart versions. Then it might have been a great deal.

If you Sega Master has a SonyCXA1145 encoder and your Genesis 2 does too or even a better one, you got a good deal aside of all the games and accessories...(with a few mods, s-video encoder capability is always a +)

SMS - Yes
Genesis 2 - I'm not opening it up again tonight, took too long to clean >_<

In the Box-O-Sega - No
At PlayNTrade today - Fantasy Zone ($5, complete, near mint)

I'm about to upload the pictures I took earlier. Most labels are a bit faded, and everything's dusty. He wasn't kidding when he said he had stuck them in his closet, Lord knows for how long. Everything works, though, save for Revenge of Shinobi (looks like it was used as a candle stand, wax marks on it).

Toejam & Earl is complete, but the label has some scuffs. I wasn't expecting collectible quality, so I'm fine with it.

More when I finish dusting the SMS. I just found... spider eggs?

-All the Genesis games. Like I said, labels are a bit faded, but otherwise acceptable. The only writing is on sports/doubles, so I could care less.

-SMS games. Boxes are a bit worn. Phantasy Star is the ONLY SMS game without a box... >_<

-Only happened once, first time I put Choplifter in. Worked fine after that.

-He said that everything was kept in the closet? He's got spiders in his closet...

Everything's clean now, except for controllers. The SMS phaser isn't in very good condition, missing some screws, wire is cut and fixed with tape. Not that big of a deal since the only game I have that uses is is the built-in safari thing where you shoot fish and stuff.

PlayNTrade doesn't have much of an incentive to trade in old stuff. I brought all the doubles and sports stuff, along with a few of the controllers, but it didn't add up to anything. I did buy a gen2 RF (I'll get composite/hack s-video later), Fantasy Zone (SMS, Blue), Fantasy Zone The Maze (SMS), both complete, and loose Sonic & Knuckles for $3. I'm happy.

I was mainly thinking of all the times I see the things (model 2) sold, sans cables (flea markets especially, but numerous ebay auctions, as well). Power cables are easy to come by, in my area at least, but I never see video cables for old consoles in the wild. So the model 1 being able to easily output RF is at least better than nothing at all (if I went out and bought one of the $5 ones I see at flea markets, I could play it today, even if it didn't come with cables--but I'd have to wait for video cables to come in the mail if I bought a model 2), though it's obviously not as good as utilizing standard AV connections.

Plus, I like to rag on the model 2, for some bizarre reason, even though it's less work to get stereo sound :)
