Next time I go buy vidjagames (in about 2 weeks XD) I've gotta choose between a dual, an NES, a Genesis, and possibly an SNES. Which one would be best to buy? If I buy the Genesis, I can get Sonic for it (I love me some Sonic :3) Or, I could get the SNES and a few SNES, N64, and GBC games. What would be best?

If you go with a Retro Duo system off of ebay($50), you can play both Nes and Super Nes. You can also buya Gen X system, which plays Nes and Genesis games. My vote would be for a retro duo. Snes and Nes games are easier to find, at least around here.

Well, where I buy my games, the only Genesis games there worth anything are Sonic and Desert Strike. There are more SNES games and the SNES is cheaper, but I don't know if I am gonna buy a dual first. Or I could save my money for a Jaguar, 5200 or 2600.

And sw, my place has both of those, as well as the Factor-5.

I'd take the Genesis device out of consideration there. Not only does it destroy entire planets, but they're a dime a dozen. I was at Flack's place a few weeks ago, and he's got a stack of something like 5-6 Genesis consoles in his game room - he can't even give 'em away. I'm not even a big SNES fan, but I'd say to go SNES on this one. The age of nostalgia is now swinging toward that system, so it's probably about to become a commodity.

The SNES has the better games. However, I have always liked the NES.

I actually almost picked up a (an?) SNES yesterday at a local Console Game Exchange. The system was $60, which seemed fair. But they didn't have some of the games I wanted, such as Donkey Kong Country or Castlevania. And the games I did want, such as Zelda and Super Mario World, were $40! So I passed. But it's definitely a system on my radar.

My vote goes to the SNES, how can you go wrong with Super Mario World, Zelda, F-Zero, R-type, Lufia 2, and Final Fantasy II and III.

If money is an issue, then the NES or Genesis are just as good picks in my book. Here are my favorite underrated picks for the NES: the Guardian Legend, Vice: Project Doom, Crystalis and Willow.

Nintendo - Huge library of games to choose from. There are lots of good and bad games but plenty of reviews to check out and get a feel of what you want. There are lots of commons out there, but some demand so keep an eye on prices and don't get suckered into a $15 loose copy of SMB3.

Super Nintendo - Take a NES and improve the games. Many NES games were just brought up to date so if you're a fan of Kirby, Mario, Zelda, ect. then it's a wonderful step up. There's also a great selection and as pointed out earlier, it's the next "rising" console, so although you'll "be in the know" prices will creep up.

Genesis - Wonderful system, lots of selection. The Genesis market has practically hit rock bottom, so tons of amazing titles can be had for dirt cheap. People are ready to unload consoles and games for you so it's easy to accrew lots of goodies.

Jaguar - Never played even to this day but really not a broad console to get into for a strict gamer. Other consoles have wider variety so unless you're wanting to just play a couple of Jag games it's not a wise choice.

2600 - Massive library of games, many genres to choose from, but arcade-like games flood the selection. It's a great system if you're wanting games that'll preoccupy your time for 20 minutes to a few hours at a time. It's inexpensive to get ahold of a system, quite a few controllers to choose from, and games are easily had cheep.

5200 - Wonderful system that is a step up from the 2600. If purchased you'll want a VCS adaptor and a 2-port PAM system (many 4-ports require a mod to play VCS adaptors, you can read up on that if you want). Controllers are expensive and require attention but once you have a good set you're good to go for long time. Games may be difficult to come by locally so online is the way to buy most of the goods.

7800 - You may want to check this one out if the 5200 is too much upkeep/work. Play 7800 and 2600 games, cheap and common (most are anyhow).

Iīd sitck to Genesis
Donīt get me wrong, love and OWN all this systems but he genesis has a arcade feeling that just fits my gamming needs right now. This week i picked Devilish, never heard aout and i am having a hellagod time with it!
And the price of the carts is a good point to be considered, here in my town i can have 2 or even 3 genesis games with the money of 1 snes game

@Sparkle: Maybe Labour Strike and Miner Strike too? (Joking XD). I think the strike games are some of the better old-school war games. Nuclear Strike = classic

@fluxor One of the Atari systems is $230 because it's still got it's box, and comes with 55 games (and a holder for them all too!).

Also, Keen ftw

Next time I go buy vidjagames (in about 2 weeks XD) I've gotta choose between a dial, an NES, a Genesis, and possibly an SNES. Which one would be best to buy?
I'd get the dial. No video game can surpass the pure satisfaction of turning a dial, particularly one that makes muted clicking noises as you turn it.

Sorry for not having perfect spelling on the interwebs.

I'm sure the point had gotten across, but I edited it just for you. Feel special.

The SNES, NES, and Genesis are my three favorite classic consoles (in that order). I'd recommend owning all three at some point, though you don't have to get them all at the same time.

Try & own all these 3!, they're fairly easy to get hold of imo (well, in the uk, & fairly cheap too) & so much fun. They have so many good titles between them, I couldn't live without any of them (The SNES / Genesis share quite a few titles I think...maybe)!

But i'd go for a SNES & a few games...maybe. Depends on the games! maybe. Dang, Its a tough call...any which way, I hope u have fun.ROFL But i'd pick a 8-32bit, if thats your bag. :drinking:

Verily, I am aware of the outstanding nature of this item, however I am exceedingly surprised by the overwrought response it appears to be receiving; kindly restrain yourself from becoming over-excited by it, my good fellow.

I feel I've failed in this task!

Thanks for your advice. Unless a spectacular deal jumps out and hits me in the nuts, I am probably going to pick up the SNES, if I have the money and chance.

I think theres a duo system that plays both Nes and Genesis games, but I don't know the name of it. I would go with that to experince the best of both worlds.

SNES is definitely the way to go. Sonic is a great series for the Genesis, but the SNES has a much better overall library in my opinion. Good luck with your purchase!

There's the GN Twin, that plays Genesis and NES; and the FC Twin, that plays NES and SNES. Not sure which dual you mean that your store has, but maybe you mean they have both?

Yes, they have both, They have the GN Twin, the FC Twin (store branded), the Factor-5, and the RetroDuo.

Obviously I come with some bias (the SNES is my favorite system ever) but put down another hearty vote for the Super NES... the library cannot be beat IMHO. So many classics, so many good games, so many underrated lesser known titles, all ranging from $5 to $50 (cart only, though truth be told, most are $30 or under, especially if you're patient and at the right place at the right time).

To me SNES is just a dream. It combines graphics that you still go "Ahhh" at with gameplay that you go to bed dreaming about. A hyperbole, but you get the idea. No offense to anyone, but NES is really hard for me to enjoy today. The controller, the graphics, many of the games have aged poorly... while the SNES I love the controller, its games still rock to this day and so on.

I haven't regretted one bit getting back into the SNES over two years ago now. Maybe my wallet does, but I know with the Saturn and SNES, I'll be set for the rest of my gaming life. So my recommendation to you is get the SNES. However, everyone is different. Whichever system (and library) you think will make you happiest, you should get that one. Besides, it's all about being "at peace" with this hobby. When you are, you don't find yourself either overwhelmed or susceptible to burning out. You can instead focus on enjoying the games you have. I'm done buying and it's a great feeling to know I'm set for life. Just kick back, enjoy the games and browse the boards. Great stuff :)
