I don't mean just any Pac Man Fever, either. I'm talking about the ground-breaking album by modern rock pioneers Buckner & Garcia!
As sad as it may sound, today marked my first opportunity ever to sit down and enjoy both sides of this record. Oh, was I in for a treat. Magic lingered in the air as the needle dropped. I sat back, tossed my feet up, and prepared for a journey through soundscapes never imagined before.
And it sucked. Well, that was the first impression. Both the title cut and Froggy's Lament left so very much to be desired. I felt ill. I was about to give up on the entire recording. But then it happened. The epic symphony - Ode To A Centipede. Wow. Then into the passionate Do The Donkey Kong. When that man/genius wailed "come on, do the donkey kong," I rose from my seat. From there right up to the end, this record refused to let up. The soothing piano that kicked off the finale, Goin' Berzerk, nearly had me in tears... but I kept it together. In this closing number, we not only wrap up a fantastic sonic voyage, but also learn a very valuable lesson. "If we fight this thing together, there's a chance that we might win." Think about that, kids. Strong words. Thank you, B & G.
So yeah... anyone else have some melodramatic comments on this album? ; )
