I need some help here guys. I just purchased what was supposedly a factory sealed GBA game off ebay from a US seller, but it is a 100% bootleg. I know this because the print quality of the box is totally off from my opened copy, the seal is junky, and it is like half the weight of my opened copy. I contacted the seller, got no response, filed for a refund with paypal. Now Paypal is asking me to fax third party evidence that documents that this is a bootleg. How the hell am I supposed to do that??? I've seen all the articles online and on ebay showing how GBA games are counterfeit but that entails me opening the box. I am looking for some advice here. Anyone?

Send pictures to NIntendo and ask them if its original. Get the answer and send it to paypal.

If that doesn't work, you can always take them to Judge Judy and let her pwn their scamming behinds. Like she did here:

You could claim not as described... was there a picture in the auction?

I filed not as described and the reason being it was fake merchandise...this is Paypal's standard course of follow-up. They told me over the phone I would have to get a letter from a game store stating it was a bootleg. I might have to ask Joe for one. Unbelievably ridiculous.

That's great news! There are game stores all over the place, so finding one of those shouldn't be too difficult. I was imagining you'd have to find some appraiser or something and pay them for such a letter. You might want to make it easy on whatever store you go to and have a prepared letter that they just have to sign or something along those lines.

This is their response verbatim:
To continue with the investigation of your complaint, we must request
documentation to support your claim that the item is not authentic. Please
obtain a document from an unbiased, third-party, such as a dealer,
appraiser, or an organization that is qualified in the area of the item in
question (other than yourself), which clearly identifies the item as not
authentic. The document must specifically state how the item received
differs from an authentic item and must include a detailed explanation of
how the person evaluating the item determined that it is not authentic. If
possible, the document should include a serial number, and must be on
letterhead that includes the name, address, and phone number of the
business or organization so that PayPal may contact them if necessary.

How long do you have to provide the necessary information?
I can help but I will require that the game be sent to me for my personal inspection. I will open the game to compare it to other legit copies and to provide the needed documentation.

Opened it up and of course, it's a boot. Need I say anything more?

Just wanted to update everyone here. After a month and much hassle with Paypal, I finally received my money back from paypal. Joe really helped me out by providing me with the letter. They had me actually send the bootleg to Paypal to be destroyed. And since it will be asked, the seller on ebay that sold me this junk is primevideogames. AVOID at all costs!

That's interesting. I've been involved with a few bootleg disputes with Paypal and I've never heard of them doing that. That's great that you got your money back, even if it took a month.

Not to sound ignorant how can you tell it was a bootleg they both look good to me. IF I would have bought I probably wouldn't have been able to tell and if I ever sold it I would have never known.

GBC games never came in gray cases. And certainly no Gameboy games ever said "GAME" on top. If that looks good to you I should have sold it to you!

LOL You got me there I would have probably bought it and been none the wiser. I am a casual gameboy player. I haven't looked over the original gameboy games since the ds. I noticed the word game at the top and thought for 1/100 of a second does gameboy go there.
There have been so many iterations of the gameboy I would have never picked it up:)

yeah it should say GameBoy, the only original game boy games that came in colored cases were the Donkey Kong Land's and Pokemon games. Early GBC games game in sold black cases that said gameboy also before they moved to the smoky/clear cases.

You guys will find this funny. After I left him a negative feedback he responded to it saying "Couldn't have been a bootleg, it was factory sealed. I won paypal dispute." LOL! Is he retarded? He LOST THE DISPUTE!!!

You know you won the dispute and he knows you won the dispute, but no one else does. You have the last say, so I'd blast him one last time.

Already done :) Mentioned Nintendo was notified (I actually did do this) so maybe next time he will think twice about ignoring refund requests for illegal merchandise.
