Yes, I know, another best of list, but this was technically on the front page of Yahoo.com, so it will get a lot of reads.

http://us.i1.yimg.com/videogames.yahoo.com/feature/part-d-oh-the-10-worst-game-sequels-ever/1210463

Driv3r (Driver 3)
Bomberman: Act Zero
Rampage: World Tour
Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
Ultima IX: Ascension
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
Sonic the Hedgehog (Next-Gen)
Twisted Metal III
Turok: Evolution
Duke Nukem Forever (never released)

These are not sequels that killed a series. These are the last sequels for game series way over done that people were really bored of.

One of those games doesn't even exist. Furthermore, at least a few of those aren't true sequels to begin with; they are just other games within that licensed universe.

List=FAIL

the media are getting caried away with these top ten lists. There seems to be a top ten for every mundane, minute category by every website or game-mag in existence. I honestly don't even bother with them anymore.

New on Cracked is a The 10 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies of All Time. It's quite funny! Kinda off topic but if you were disillusioned with the Yahoo list, maybe this might cheer you up. http://www.cracked.com/article_16247_10-most-terrifying-video-game-enemies-all-time.html

Then again, maybe not.

You are a minority then. A medium releases top 10 lists because it gets people talking. It wants you to disagree with it so that way you take it to message boards, direct other people to it, argue about/agree with the content and bring up other titles based on the topic and talk about the games on the list (Yahoo succeeded by having someone post the link here). Many media openly makes a call for people to debate the lists on official forums, in e-mails or even still by writing a letter to the publisher. If this wasn't working in their favor like this, they wouldn't bother continuing to produce top lists.

Huh? There's been more Twisted Metal, more Ultima, there will surely be more Bomberman... That doesn't make much sense!

Not a very good list really. Forever has never been released and the other games aren;t to bad. I will agree sonic has become down right ridiculous I haven't enjoyed one since sonic adventure 1/2 on DC (and they still don't match the 2d games)

Rampage: World Toru was just meant to be a re-release of rampage. Srsly.
Driv3r was pretty good. Driver 2 sucked, Driver 4... well... yeah... and 1, well Driver was too damn difficult to begin with! XD

I loved Driv3r. But I would have to agree with the spyro and sonic choices.

Are they implying they have played "Duke Nukem Forever"?

Good point. I suppose they just seem to pop up a lot more frequently then they used to.

I had thought that Rampage: World Tour was generally well-regarded, and that the series didn't really go downhill until afterwards (when the original team had left).

I thought nobody much cared for GTA2.

I won't disagree with you on that one.

I think I can agree to about three of those games on that top 10. I guarantee Driv3r is only on there because it "didn't compare to Grand Theft Auto III." I would agree if the Rampage game in question was Universal Tour as World Tour was a brief arcade staple and pretty-well hyped when it released and, yes, the Duke Nukem Forever inclusion blows my mind. It's not really that I want to argue or disagree, I just want to completely question the author's credibility.

I loved Duke Nukem Forever. It's a total paradigm of dark versus light on a field of blood.

Oh wait, I'm thinking of Video Checkers.

Leisure Suit Larry : MCL was one of the best produced games in the entire series, and definitely the most well written.

It even managed to be a PS2/XBOX game that had ACTUAL nudity and sex in it that slipped completely under the radar during the time of the GTA "Hot Coffee" fiasco/scandal/recalls.

It's a VERY under-appreciated SCUMM-style game and I doubt the people responsible for that list even played it.

At least for one of the games we have 100% certainty the people responsible for the list didn't even play it.

Since I am a classic gamer, I haven't played most of the games on the list. I have played Leisure Suit Larry : MCL at my friends house and I found it enjoyable. I thought it played well, the story was okay and it held it's form to the idea of the series.

If nothing else, that game shouldn't be on the list (or at least I wouldn't put it there).

I only played one game one the list. Rampage: World Tour shouldn't have been on the list. Duke Nukem Forever shouldn't be on the list at all. A game never released shouldn't be on the list a first place.

I think the author is limited in video game knowledge. Double Dragon 3 is one of the worst game Sequels of all time. The scary part is the Nes version is better than the Arcade and Genesis version.

I am sure there are other bad sequals out there.

Does it count as a crappy sequel when it's a turd of a franchise to begin with?

Don't forget Crash Wrath of Cortex. God that game sucked.

Rampage: World Tour kicked ass. Right?
Well I think it did.

That list is ridiculous. I think almost any average gamer could come up with a better list off the top of their head. Here, I'll try:

Strider Returns
The Chaos Engine 2
Blaster Master 2
Rastan Saga II
Ecco Jr.
Paperboy 64
The Cyber Shinobi
Earthworm Jim 3D
Virtual On Marz
Spy Hunter 2

I think a lot of people disagree with the author on this one. Midway took a classic series and brought into present day format. They added a lot of new features and polish to the title so I'm not sure how the author can say it made no effort to update (I'd like to know what version of Rampage they played then). Sure the basis of the game where you climb and punch down buildings didn't change at all, but that's the mechanic and hook of the game - I'm not sure what the author wanted out of it. Does the author think Street Fighter IV should be a dating simulator so that it doesn't play the same as Street Fighter II? I doubt it. You take what made the game popular in the first place and update it and that's what Midway did with World Tour. It's improbable everyone liked World Tour, but I can't say it tarnished the series.

Now, had they said Rampage: Universal Tour, I could give that a little understanding.

Duke Nukem Forever used to be funny, but nowadays it's kind of turned into the stupid-easy joke for lame video game "journalists." Kind of like Beavis & Butthead sitting around going "heh. hehe. fire." stop beating the dead horse already and put blame where it's due - like on EA for all its crappy games. too bad more of their shovelware hasn't gone the way of Duke Nukem Forever.
