If you're talking arcade/video games, being an old fart.. I really don't remember exactly what it was. But it was definitely an Electromechanical game and it was most definitely before the Pong days. In my earliest memories I remember playing a shuffle puck bowling and electromechanical Pinballs. And I also remember playing a shooting game where you shot at a Shark and when it hit, there was a blood red spatter. In those old arcade games, if you weren't tall enough, you couldn't see what was in the cab. So my dad had to hold me up :P

Arcade: Space Invaders. My dad had to pry me off of the machine.

Home: Sears Pong Sports IV. Nobody could pry my brother and I off of that machine.

I believe that my first game was tetris for the gameboy. I still play it on the crapper to this day.

River Raid for Atari 2600. I used to play it for hours and keep beating my own high scores.

Arcade: I think Asteroids Deluxe, but I could be wrong.

Home: Telstar Arcade with pong, racing, and cowboy games. I wore the trigger on the gun out so I had to fire using the gun's hammer.

If I can remember correctly it was Atari 2600 Combat. I'd play it in Caldors while my grandmother was shopping. There's also a good chance that I played some pinball before this if that counts

For a home system I'm pretty sure it was Air-Sea Battle at my uncles house. As for arcade games, I think it was either Roc n Rope or Battlezone.

The first game I remember playing is Adventure. I probably played Combat first, as it came with the system, but Adventure is still a good memory.

My first home game was the Odyssey with those funky Rolo-o-Dex controllers and the plastic overlays you tape to the TV screen.

My first arcade game was Gunfight. A class trip to Space Farms, an "arcade" with just this one coin-op, and a fistful of Wacky Packages purchased in the adjoining shop. I remember that day like it was yesterday.

oh lord.. first arcade game was either:

Sprint

or

Gunfight

Those were the only two games at the skating ring near my house. They had 8 old Pinballs though. Later they got a Lunar Lander and a galaxians.

Console:
First game I played at home wasn't on a console. It was on a TRS-80 MODEL 1 (which I still have.) It was a text adventure game which I think was "Adventure". That was 1979.

Centipede on my uncle's Atari 2600. He was the one who introduced me to games. The funny thing is that he gets an attitude when we play these days because he can't beat me at anything now. 8-)

This is an interesting question for me because I literally grew up with videogames. My dad is a gadget guy, so we always had them around the house. I honestly don't remeber playing my first but it could have been the Odyssey. We had one, there's a picture my grandma has with me, my uncle, and that distinctive, oh-so-70s, Odysey box in the background. There's a good chance that I would have played it, but I was only 3 in the picture so I don't remember. (I do remember all the play money from the Odyssey, I know I played with that.)

Now, I do remember logging some time with the Coleco Telestar Arcade. I remember the gun games specifically. I can safely say that was the first, but there's a strong chance I played the Odyssey as well. I remember too much about that machine, but I don't remember ever seeing it in action.

As for arcade, the first game I can remember playing was a driving game. This would be pre-Space Invaders. I remember the Kee Games logo on the steering wheel, but I don't know what the game was. Maybe is was Sprint? I think Kee made one of those. It was at the Muncie Mall in Muncie, IN, and I was with my grandma and my teenaged uncle. And I'm sure I sucked at it.

I'm not sure if it was Combat for my parents 2600, or Pac Man for the 2600 that my cousin brought to a family reunion. Ther was also on of those TI computers in there some where that had a face making program that I remember being quite fond of.

Incedentally that Comabt cart still sits in my collection. But my parents got rid of the TI long time ago, still trying to find another one.

We had a bright yellow pong machine, I thought it was called an Odyssey, but I know it isn't the Odyssey that Joe or PDF have been talking about recently...

In an arcade, I remember being the first one in my town to try out the new machine known as "Pac-Man"

Before playing Pac-Man, I was a pinball only player...the video games didn't interest me then :o

Arcade: Either Pac-Man or Moon Patrol back in 1983.
Console: I'm pretty sure it was Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600, afterwards I played Adventure... (I think in 1984 or 1985)

Probably Target Fun (AKA Air Sea Battle) at a friends house. I remember wanting a VCS for several christmases, before the price went down enough for "Santa" to bring one. :)

I'm sure I played an earlier arcade game, but I remember being blown away by a cocktail Frogger while on vacation...

Cheers,
Ben

The first game that I had ever played in my life that I can recall would have to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. Yeah, I'm young... :embarrassed:

Q*Bert on the ol' woodgrain 2600. I was literally born with a 2600 being lovingly played in the house. Thanks, Dad! You started my quick descent into neurotic nerdhood as quickly as possible!
