Dragon Quest VIII character name

I started a new game of Dragon Quest VIII last night. I couldn't think of what to name my character. I asked my wife and she didn't really know. I ended up naming him "Hero" because the DQ8 guide book named him that and I have no originality.

So, I'm regretting the name now, but don't want to restart the game even though I'm barely into it. Is there any way down the road to change the name of your main character?

I name him 'Eight' as that was his name in the demo disc.

I am not aware if it is possible to change the name :(

I have hard times to create an original name as I prefer default name in games :embarrassed:

I sometimes use the same technique I did when I'd play any on-line game, or a screen name for some random thing, I'd just hit random letters and see what comes up. Of course I eventually forgot whatever the hell the name was, but by then I've usually lost interest in whatever it was for.

As for being able to change the name, I did a quick Google and the most relevant result to the subject was this thread. So my guess is no.

I pretty much use Mailman for the names of all my characters and everything I do on the internet. If it only allows initials, I use MM. Why not just use your own name?

I've carried the same two fantasy names through all my games, both MMO and otherwise. They are the main characters in the book I've been writing (on and off) for the last ten years.

I like to make it a singular noun. Makes dialog funny. "Thanks Porn!"

I remember renaming all my pokemon, lol.

"Pikachu" coming out as "Pissface" kinda lost its charm though, thank god for the name changer.

You need one of those name changers from pokemans!

Hero makes me think of Hiro from Lunar 2, which was actually kind of a cool name.

I however, named my character from DQ8 Edrick which is now what I always named my Dragon Warrior characters. Misspelling intentional.

Ahhh Hiro, that would have been a cool name. Problem is that I've since advanced further and really don't want to restart it.

Every RPG should have a name changer in it somewhere. Final Fantasies were pretty reliable for that (even that recent FFXII knockoff had one).

My DQ8 guy was hero before looking in the manual. Just a 4 letter name I use a lot for RPGs.

Yeah, I named mine Hero too. I wish I could finish DQ VIII, but I got stuck somewhere in the desert. I might return to it soon though.
