My university is celebrating its 60th birthday this year, and they've basically told each campus to put together activities for the students. Each campus gets to keep the funds it earns from those activities, and I was thinking of putting together a game tournament to collect funds for student aid in summer and for those with high GPAs.
We have a big amphitheater with a massive screen and data projector. It's air conditioned, and the campus is conveniently located in town. This is what I had in mind:
Cover charge: Charge students a modest fee ($5-$10) to get in. This would enter them in a raffle for some game-related prizes.
Game tournaments: I was thinking of games like Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, etc. First prize would be an Xbox 360 arcade, Wii, DS, etc. - some kind of game system.
Trade section: We could also charge a small fee for people to rent a table and space to sell/trade their games and stuff.
This is all I came up with while brainstorming on the ride home from the end-of-semester faculty meeting this morning, but I think this could do well. If it does, it could be a yearly thing, like a "Puerto Rico Gamers Day" or something.
Any other ideas of what to include? Thoughts?
