The DP Random Game Generator of Skeletal Liking (tm) hath chosen the 3DO game "Deathkeep" today. Ah Deathkeep. Ah hack and slash. Ah Dungeons and Dragons. Ah sequels. So many Ah's. Or were there?

Ever play it? What did YOU think? Compare it to the first 3DO offering, Slayer, or to other SSI games like Eye of the Beholder or even to other 1st person slugfests like Doom. Write your mini-review here.

DP Guide sez:

AD&D: DeathKeep (3DO, by SSI) $6/R2
Developed by Mindscape. The sequel to SSI's Slayer. Role-Playing/First-Person RPG. LANDMARK: This was the last AD&D-licensed game published by SSI. EASTER EGGS: God mode. Yes, God mode. Digital Press players expect nothing less. To become immortal, simply open your backpack during a game by pressing X, then hold L+R simultaneously then press C, X, P, C. SANTULLI SLANT: Playing this game makes me realize how very fortunate I am to be human. Imagine if you will, being a ghoul or a mind flayer, forced to live your life in a cave until some smart-ass dwarf cleaves you with a great axe. Well unfortunately, the character selection here prevents you from being human, but at least you can be that dwarf. The first 3DO AD&D game "Slayer" was much better, though also easier and shorter. Certainly an improvement over Slayer. The game never really grabbed me though. I prefer an RPG style for a D&D game rather than this Doom stuff.

I'm gonna have to pick this one up somehow. I have a 3DO but only collect the A class titles that were released on it (Road Rash, Ghost Manor). This one certainly looks good so thanks for informing me. Just how rare is it?

I've got an extra up for trade, PM me if interested.

DeathKeep (and Slayer) were alright, although my favorite first-person 3DO games were/are Escape from Monster Manor and Killing Time. I haven't played 'em in eons and thus don't know how they've held up, but at the time, I loved 'em. The latter also had a killer soundtrack -- including a song with vocals, still a relative novelty at the time.
