For a game subtitled "Legends of Rock", Guitar Hero III didn't feature that many real-life six-string virtuosos. Sure, you had Rage's Tom Morello, GnR's Slash and a brief cameo by VH1's latest lothario, Poison frontman Bret Michaels (http://www.vh1.com/shows/series/rock_of_love_2/splash.jhtml) -- but many classic rock aficionados who tried their hand at Activision's shredding simulator were left unsatisfied in terms of quantity (and in the minds of those belonging to the churches of Hendrix and Clapton, quality).

Until now, we've yet to hear anything about the roster for the next legit entry in Activision's golden goose franchise (no, we're not nor will we ever count Guitar Hero: Aerosmith), however, that silence was recently broken by the whistle of a flaming arrow (http://www.guitarheronews.com/guitar-hero/ted-nugent-confirms-appearance-in-future-guitar-hero/) through the night air, fired from the heavenly compound bow of the Motor City Madman himself, Ted Nugent. Listen to his radio interview on Detroit's WRIF (about 12:30 in) (http://my.wrif.com/mim/?p=107), where he uses all manner of colorful language to describe the mocap process. Now, if they could only get the rest of the Damn Yankees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damn_Yankees_(band)) involved, it would definitely ensure a purchase on our end. How 'bout it, Blades?

[Thanks, Tyler.]

Who cares? The egomaniac had one hit and every redneck thinks he's God. The old bitter bastard.

Oh, he wrote books too.

...Irony overload detected.

The old bitter bastard.

...and confirmed.

Seriously though, doesn't anyone else think this music/gadget genre is going to implode on itself? People were pretty responsive to Rock Band and it's $170 price tag, but are these same people going to keep doing this year after year for these two major franchises? I'm predicting GHIV will sell less than Activision's projections.

When you take a simple, fun concept and turn it into a bloated, intricate mess...people are going to eventually stop going along for the ride.

We are seeing the GH stuff surge right now. The DS game looks plain silly to me. And I am a fan of the series. The fan base is definitely present to make these games a new staple genre (if you do not already consider it one). All they have to do is deliver and satisfy. As long as they can manage that they will sell well and possibly for a long time to come.

Doesn't he fucking kills bears with arrows and shit? Putting the bear Vs. human battle in a stranglehold is a huge accomplishment and is pure fucking rock.

And he does it all with his head crammed firmly up his ass, too. ;)

EDIT: Apparently, Ted's not up to appearing on Night Call....

I just meant he's a crabby old man. Also, extremely over-rated. His one hit isn't even a good song, yet he's still conceited as hell. No irony here, sir. He's a dick is all I'm saying.

"Hey Billy Bob, that rock guy kills stuff and shit! Praise Jesus! What was that song he did about cats?"

"I dunno Billy-Joe, but let's buy his books to look edumaplomicated even though we can't read!"

I don't know man, the only Nugent song I have ever heard on the radio is Cat Scratch Fever. And I don't like it.

Ted Nugent is nuts these days, but he did some pretty cool shit back in the day. The local rock stations only seem to play "Stranglehold" and "Cat Scratch Fever," though.

Oh, and Kamino, if you're reading this:
"Get ready, ready, ready, Stormtroopers comin,' get ready..."

Ok, then I've heard of 2. Stranglehold's the other one. Never heard of the others.

I agree with you, it's getting to be a bit ridiculous now, especially with Konami putting out Rockmania with comes with its' own guitar and drum set.

I don't agree with a lot of what I hear on EGM's podcasts, but they were talking about this on last week's, and they brought up the notion that there should just be one standard for the music controllers.

As for the Nuge, he was pretty big back in the '70s, but hasn't been relevant in music for quite some time, being better known for his ultra right wing rantings and giving that miserable idiot Tila Tequila her first break in TV by having her on his (hopefully short-lived) show Surviving Ted.

In the game, does he mess his pants, like he did to avoid the draft during Vietnam?

Miserable coward.
