What series(s) have you stuck with for years?
What series(s) have you left after years?
What series(s) have you recently picked up (new OR old)?

Longtime
-To be honest, I've lost faith in most of my favorites. I want to say Rockman, but the production focus has shifted to the younger audience, alienating the real fans.

Abandoned
-Final Fantasy - I'm more a fan of the first half of the series. Back then, you had to use your imagination to get the emotional effect of what you're seeing. I need to bring myself to bring 12, but since the key members left, it's just not FF to me anymore. 13 looks promising, but I still prefer random battles.
-Mario - Nintendo still knows how to make a good game, but Mario just hasn't done anything revolutionary for a while. Galaxy is good, but it's not any better than Sunshine.
-Unreal Tournament - UT99 is my all time favorite FPS, mainly because its focus is on fast and high-powered combat. UT3 feels slower, more realistic, and just not as goofy as UT99 was. Give me low-grav and higher speed, and it's closer, but not quite the same. Meh.

Discovered
-Ys - Great series, very refreshing. Nice alternative to Zelda.
-Armored Core - I don't know why I didn't give this a try earlier. I've played AC2:AA, AC:FF, and AC4 so far, and I like a lot of elements in each.
-Katamari - The one and only recent series I absolutely love.
-Phantasy Star - The series is refreshing, PSO is addictive, and PSU didn't really draw me in. Still, great old series.
-Gradius - My shooter of choice. The ONLY shooter series I've been able to really enjoy.

Longtime I'm a big Castlevania nerd... I'd go so far as to say fanboy. I also harbor long term affection for the Elder Scrolls, Doom(yes, even Doom 3), Soul Calibur and Metal Gear Solid.

Abandoned Final Fantasy, post SNES, with the sole exception being XII. That's counting only 'real' installments, not Tactics. Flame on, internet.

Recent Interests Through Persona 3 and Nocturne, I've been turned on to the expansive Shin Megami Tensei series. I gotta say: I'm a big fan.

Virtua Fighter 5 was purchased as a reason to turn on my PS3(before the 360 version was released), and I love it almost as much as Soul Calibur. Very deep and incredibly rewarding.

Here's my partial list:

Longtime:
Shining Force (including spin-offs)
Final Fantasy
Streets of Rage
Gungriffon
Street Fighter
Ace Combat
Metal Slug
King of Fighters
Bomberman

Abandoned:
Armored Core- This series became nothing more than a snoozefest for me.

Sonic- Too many poor games recently have really killed this franchise for me. Maybe the new game will be better. Until then, I'll stick with everything up to Sonic Adventure.

Mortal Kombat- I only really liked the first two games. When they added the Killer Instinct style combos, I lost interest in it. I don't really care too much for the recent 3D MK games, though the Shaolin Monks game was pretty fun.

Recent Discoveries:
Summon Night- I loved the GBA games, have considered importing the PS2 games and I'm looking forward to the DS game.

Rushing Beat- I just picked up all three (US released) games in the series. I k now they're considered mediocre Final Fight clones at best, but I remember having fun playing the first two games with my friends in my early teens. Never played Peacekeepers until now.

Longtime:
Virtua Fighter:
Been an extremely hardcore player for the last twelve years. Bought my 32X and Saturn solely for VF and VF2, my Dreamcast for VF3, PS2 for VF4, etc. Now entering my thirteenth year of my career, though I've been semi-retired the last year and half due to my collection really starting to boom, and other gaming interests. That and I've been working a lot more.

Resident Evil:
Was somewhat of a casual fan until around late 1999, as that was when I bought all the novels (That were available at the time), and a few of the comics.

Metroid:
I bought my GameCube solely for Metroid Prime and Resident Evil Rebirth. Couldn't really get into Prime or Echoes much, and I consider Corruption to be the lowest point of the entire Metroid franchise (Not saying it's a bad game, just nowwhere near as good as the others), but that doesn't take away the act that it's Metroid. I will play through and beat Prime, Echoes, and Corruption one day. Super Metroid is the single greatest game ever made (Just barely edging out P.N. 03).

Abandoned:
Final Fantasy: I first played the original back on NES back around... 1992? Or was it early 1993? Can't quite remember. I joined in the craze of FFVII, and joined the millions proclaiming it being the best game ever. Whatever. Anyway, after the utter garbage that was Final Fantasy X (I probably hate Yuna more than anything. Period. I doubt anyone or anything could topple my hatred for her), I stopped playing. Final Fantasy IV and IX are the best games in the series. I'll play the first nine games no problem, but the newer ones, not a chance.

Tekken:
I played Tekken and Virtua Fighter about equally until I went Virtua Fighter exclusively in late 1996. Tekken is an utter joke of a serious fighter (Though not as big of a laughing stock as Soul Calibur), but it's fun to play in short bursts, when there's no other fighting game around.

Recent Interests:
King of Fighters: Been playing Capcom vs SNK 2 almost religiously the last two and half years. To the point that it almost replaced Virtua Fighter as my main fighter (Blasphemy!), but it also rekindled my interest in SNK. Was fairly casual up to that point, and had only played the MD/SFC ports of their games. Well, that and my love interest of four years is a pretty hardcore KOF player, so she got me into it moreso as well. You can tell I'm a bit of an SNK fanboy if you look at my avatar, my title, and MySpace page.

Kyokugen Karate Forever! Though I admit, I probably love Yuri a little too much. Oh and, Robert Garcia > You.

That's all for now. I'm pretty damn tired, so I'm going to bed.

Longtime:
- Silent Hill - have bought and love the series just as much as when I played through the first one. Recently played through Origins and it was so much more than what I was expecting from a PSP port.
- Grand Theft Auto - Played minor bits of 1 and 2 but have bought every GTA since III...even LC and VC Stories. Now with the 4th one out and loving it, I dont see my interest of these titles fading anytime soon.
- Suikoden - Just when I thought I was ready to give up on this series, Suikoden V, takes me back to a gameplay and storyline style of what I felt was similar to my favorite one in the series, II.
- Others include - Final Fantasy, Guitar Hero, Resident Evil, Dynasty Warriors, Castlevania, anything Mario, and my favorite Ogre Battle (the lost franchise)

Adandoned
- Sonic - loved all the Sonic games on the Genesis and Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast were also great games. But these days, I have 0 interest in the titles and I think they keep getting worse and worse.

Recent
- God of War - I had never given GoW a chance til recently. I was afraid to play the game as I didn't want to be disspointed when the game didn't live up to all the hype that was around this game. After beating the first game a week or two ago I cannot wait to get my hands on GoWII and Cahins of Olympus after that. Great game!
- Xenosaga - Not only is it my favorite set of RPGs to hit the PS2, it may even be my favorite RPG series of all time. I had played the 1st one a long time ago but never picked up the 2nd or 3rd. After obtaining the other two titles I reaplyed through the 1st and also beat the 2nd in the middle of last year. Been very busy to start another RPG as of late, but can't wait to start the 3rd. Don't think I have ever been sucked into astoryline this much...this game has an incredible storyline and the character depth really makes me feel attatched to each and every character.

Longtime

Mario- the daddy. Loved every second of 64, Sunshine, Galaxy and NSMB. Will gladly shell out for any new Mario game.

Soul Blade/Calibur- been a fan for 11 years. Can't imagine ever not being.

Wipeout- Bought 2097 11 years ago, and have got every subsequent game. Absolutely drooling over Wipeout HD.

Metal Gear Solid- Another '10 years of love' affair. The Acid games were a bit too bizarre for me but I loved every minute of Twin Snakes, 2 and 3 (well, the bits that made sense, anyway).

Civilization- Though CivRev has me somewhat concerned I really can't tell you the number of hours I've lost over the years to the Civ franchise.

Monkey Ball- Yes, it's the same game every time. Still fun though. Apart from the god-awful 'Adventure' on the PSP.

Zelda- No explanation necessary surely?

Abandoned/abandoning

Final Fantasy- I adored VI, VII and X, and loved pretty much all the others (Tactics/Crystal Chronicles included). But XI and XII were total busts for me. I miss my random encounters. XIII is the 'final chance' for me.

Sonic- 7 years ago I was highly addicted to Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 on the Dreamcast. The Advance games were... alright. Not up to the standard of the 16-bit masterpieces by any means but not bad- same with the Rush games. But oh god, the home versions. Heroes was good. Nothing special, just good. Shadow was meh, but that 360/PS3 game is just fucking horrendous. Sonic Unleashed should either be the hog's new era, or his last game ever. I can't stand having my childhood raped any further.

Micro Machines- The Mega Drive games were little masterpieces and the single best multi-player experience of my entire life. Online play via XBLA would be a wet dream for me. V3 was pretty good too. Then it went downhill. V4 turned the offbeat Micro Machines genre into a sim. And I cried.

Recent

Elder Scrolls- I loved Oblivion, so I picked up Morrowind and Daggerfall when I saw them. Bye-bye social life.

Came back to

Mortal Kombat- Following the absolute bombs that were MK4 and MK Gold, I abandoned it for ages, then picked up Deception cheap. HOLY crap, that was an addiction reborn. :)

mechwarrior (rip): got my first taste with mw2: mercs and have been hooked ever since. this includes mechcommander and even those awful mechassault games.

metal gear solid: kojima still does the best mix of stealth and storyline (however twisted it may be).

diablo: every time i think i've beaten the diablo bug, i'll try it again 'just for a few minutes' and end up blowing most of the day. (would it kill ya to give us d3, blizzard?)

gta: do i even have to justify following the gta franchise?

kirby: still haven't found a worthy followup to the original nes title, but like a moth to the flame, i keep coming back.

unreal tournament: still my favorite arcadey fps series. haven't tried ut3 yet (my computer=crap).

Abandoned
age of empires: loved the 2d incarnations because any decent computer could run them. now i don't feel like blowing a paycheck just so i can play the latest iteration. maybe when i get a new computer.

mario: mario in 3d just isn't mario. i tried to get into mario64, but it got tiresome after a while. make the next main mario title something like nsmb and i'll listen.

zelda: zelda, like mario, lost me in the jump from 2d to 3d.

mega man: a big fan of the nes megamen to this day, the crappy 3d iterations and weird spinoffs have made the series dead to me.

guitar hero: gh1 & gh2 made a fan out of me. i even pre-ordered and enjoyed rock the 80s. then neversoft killed the series from within. thank goodness for rock band.

Recent
final fantasy: got started with ffx and the series has grown on me, despite its jrpg quirks. never could get into the classic fantasies. maybe i'll give them another shot when i get a psp.

front mission: mechs + tactical gameplay? sign me up. despite the cheesy story parts, it's still good fun.

Longtime:

Honestly, I have more of a company loyalty instead of a game loyalty

Castlevania- played and owned them all at one time or another. Even the crappy ones.
YS- I've played all except YS V.
Samurai Showdown
Metal Slug
Street Fighter
Silent Hill
Shin Megami Tensei: Now I've been an Atlus fan for awhile, but Nocturne really brought me back into it.
Time Crisis
Legend of Zelda
Shining Force
Phantasy Star
Capcom crossover series: Marvel vs capcom ect..
Breath of Fire
Resident Evil
Ninja Gaiden
Megaman series - they seem to have abandoned their real fanbase

Abandoned:
Contra- the PS1 to present has been blah. I haven't gotten a chance to play contra 4 yet.
Mortal Kombat
King of Fighters-series died with 97 for me.
Soul Calibur- Just haven't had any interest in it.
Guilty Gear- Fist of the North Star on Atomiswave killed it for me.
Bonk- stopped making bonk games
Cotton- Cotton Boomerang was the last good one

Recent:
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Atelier Iris series
Metal Saga

I feel the same exact way. UT99 was just so fun and goofy. I still play it today. Unfortunately, all the later UTs are not as fun. :(

Longtime:
Metroid. So far all Metroids are top-notch games. Super Metroid was my all time favorite 2D action/adventure game. The Metroid Prime games are great, but I really need another fix of a 2D metroid soon.

I'm considering hosting a dedicated UT99 server, complete with custom maps, binslayer rifles, etc. I'll post it when I get around to it.

My one, true loyalty will alway be with Pac-Man. Even during his down times, I've always loved the little yellow guy.. When Pac-Man CE came out, I felt like a kid again.

More recently, my loyalties swing towards the GTA series, Ninja Gaiden series, Jet Set Radio.

I think the only game that lost my loyalty would be Rayman. Until they make a new platformer, and ditch the Raving Rabids, I'm through with Rayman and friends.

i have few series im a die hard fan of, and most of them dont come out every year (or even close).

LONGTIME: i like Forgotten Realm's Computer RPGs. this includes Baldur's Gate (my fav), icewind dale, neverwinter nights(least fave yet still great) -- i know its not really a series as the games are largely unrelated, but i enjoy the universe and style of play.
lets see... what else... hmm... Fallout, die hard fan, but only the RPGs. Elder Scrolls. (beggining to see a trend yet?) also: Doom (yes, doom 3 as well, as someone else mentioned!) cant think of anything else right now.

Abandoned: oh here we go: Breath of Fire (after 3, maybe 4), Zelda (after they went 3rd and cellda). Mortal Kombat (pretty much everything after UMK3 is lamesauce). Warcraft (i hated 3)

Discovered: Megaman X (the first one i played was x5 only like 4 years ago) also: Tactics-style games (fire emblem, ogre tactics, shining force) the gba was my intro to all these games and i loved them.

reDiscovered: C&C. i loved the original and red alert. i HATED with a passion C&C2 and RA2. i really like C&C3 and have high hopes for RA3.

Mario - No explanation
Zelda - No explanation
Sonic - Sure his 3D games are horrible, but he actually still has some quality 2D games on the DS. I'll probably wait before I buy Sonic Unleashed though.

Abandoned
Resident Evil- This isn't really abandonment, but sort of tried and stopped. I played Re4, but couldn't get into any of the older games.

Discovered
Castlevania - I never got into the games when I was younger, but this was probably because I wouldn't have liked a hard action game. I eventually bought Portrait of Ruin so I could play with my friend and got hooked on the series.

Looking through my games, I really don't buy a lot of franchised games... Well not a lot of them.

Interesting thread!

Longtime:
Zelda - Twilight Princess was my favorite Zelda of all time. Fantastic game, and I'm looking forward to the next.
Resident Evil - one of my favorite series, and Umbrella Chronicles was an absolute blast. The formula was getting a little stale by the time Zero came out, but both 4 and UC are excellent.
Pac Man - good call, I forgot about that. Pac Man CE justified my 360 purchase, and I still play Pac Man (and Ms) on my 5200 regularly.
Phantasy Star PSU wasn't as good as it should have been, but I still got 50+ hours out of it. PSO was God-like, and the SMS and Genny games are among my favorite RPGs of all time. The series needs to be redone right, but for now, I'll keep it on my longtime list.
Panzer Dragoon - The original was fantastic, PD Saga was even better, and PD Orta sold me my original Xbox. I'd like to see a new game in the series, but even a PD compilation (for Wii?) would be great.
Metroid - Echoes is the sole dark spot for me in this franchise. Corruption is my favorite of the Prime series, and the original and Super Metroid are among the best games of their generation.

Abandoned:
Sonic - too many bad games for too many years. Sonic & the Secret Rings was decent, but not good enough to renew my love. I haven't really liked any 3D Sonics.
Halo - I liked the first one. Not mind-blowing, but a solid game and a good time. Halo 2 was worth playing through but felt much less polished. I played 3 for a week and sold it - just a huge disappointment. I was never a *huge* fan, but as it stands I don't think there's anything that could make me buy #4.

Discovered:
Final Fantasy - I had previously only played through FF 3 on the SNES and X on the PS2, but recently started playing 12. Not sure if that counts as "discovered" since I had played prior games, but I'm really enjoying it, and I may have to open those PS1 remakes I've had sitting on the shelf for years...
Ratchet & Clank - my 360 RRoD'd a while back, so I've been firing up my ps2 lately. In addition to FF12 I popped in R&C - the original - for the first time. Great game. I had played a demo of it before it was released and really liked it, but never played the actual game until now.

Final Fantasy - Haven't really enjoyed a FF game since the PS1, FF X wasen't too bad, but FF XII destroyed it.

Longtime:

Castlevania - from the original to Bloodlines to Portrait of Ruin, I haven't met a Castlevania I didn't like... yet. Castlevania III is overdue for the Virtual Console.

Zelda - no explanation necessary.

Ace Attorney - the "damn lawyer game" that I was actually forbidden to play by my ex still retains its pure unfiltered awesomeness. I've even started to collect goodies from the series and donate extra copies of Phoenix Wright to friends who, for some odd reason, just got a DS. I am a devoted follower of Objectionism. :D

Abandoned:

Mario - I still play the older games and Kart, but the sheer amount of bullshit one has to endure to get Luigi in Galaxy is causing me to lose my patience and my faith in this series.

Sonic - three words: Shadow the Hedgehog.

Shining Force - stay away from the ones on the PS2. Far. Far. Away.

Phantasy Star - The original RPGs and PSO are fun - Universe, not so much.

Rediscovered:

Mortal Kombat - Armageddon for the Wii reeled me back in. The customization options turn out a sweet Phoenix Wright for a few thousand koins. :D

What series(s) have you stuck with for years?

That's tough. I guess the first one off the top of my head would be Contra, then Castlevania. Modern-wise...Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, and Guitar Hero are the only ones I've stood behind since their inception.

When I sit and think about it more, I realize that I've lost interest in the newer outings of franchises I once loved, with the above exceptions.

What series(s) have you left after years?

Zelda. After Super NES, I've barely touched any Zelda game and have little desire to do so.

Mega Man. I'll always love classic Mega Man, but again, anything after Super NES doesn't matter to me.

Metroid. Same as above. Absolutely zero interest in the Prime series.

Mario. I loved everything up through the N64. Galaxy's not bad, but it hasn't drawn me in like I expected.

Metal Gear Solid. I loved the first two, but can't get into 3 for some reason. I'm stoked for 4, so we'll see.

Street Fighter. The only game I've liked after SFII was X-Men vs. Street Fighter.

What series(s) have you recently picked up (new OR old)?

I've not had anything new pull me in lately. Just stand-alone games or re-playing old favorites.

Longtime
- TLoZ - Has and will always be epic for me.
- Castlevania - Every CV release has me going crazy.
- Metroid - Every game has been solid. Samus kicks ass anyway.
- Pokemon - Only 250 to go in Pearl, which reminds me to get back to training.
- Jet Set Radio - Even with two main games, I still love you (there was a gba release I think).
- Kirby - I love the pink puffball.

Abandoned
- Final Fantasy - I can go for some remakes if I find them for cheap, but after the 9th installment it really hasn't been all that interesting.
- Sonic - even though I keep up with the games, I have to agree with Sailorneorune, three words: Shadow the Hedgehog. It makes me feel bad to know that I actually own that game.
- Mario - Galaxy was okay, but since Sunshine I haven't gotten any Mario games.
- Crash Bandicoot - not a single good game after the 3rd installment. Lost my faith.
- Mega Man - after the SNES era it just got bad.

Discovered
- Phoenix Wright -epic in a box. Got into it a year or so ago but it's fairly new as a whole series interest to me.
- Halo - s'fun :D.

Re- discovered
- Puyo Pop - Always loved Robotnik's mean bean machine but recently got other Puyo games.
- Spyro the Dragon - Finally after years got the first two games. The series has gone pretty downhill but I still enjoy these.

Long Time

Final Fantasy: I'd lost hope that Final Fantasy could ever make me come back to it again, but Final Fantasy 12 was pretty ok. I'm excited for 13.

Street Fighter: Arcades are pretty much dead, but my memories will live forever!

Metal Gear: It's Hideo!

Resident Evil: The game with the magical swiss cheese plot!

Fatal Frame: Probably some of the most unsettling audio in a game ever.

Silent Hill: Even the movie is good!

Shin Megami Tensei: I've been playing some iteration of this game since high school.

Abandoned

Super Mario: I keep playing every Mario game that comes out but I haven't enjoyed myself since Super Mario World.

Legend of Zelda: All of the 3D Zelda's are pretty mediocre.

Metroid: The FPS game make me want to cry inside.

Secret of Mana: Why are all the new games so terrible?

Mega Man: How is it that the best game out of all of them is still Mega Man II?

Breath of Fire: I just don't care anymore.

Longtime:

Gradius - always was and always will be my favorite shooter series.
Strider - I refuse to give up hope for a new 2D Strider 3.
Splatterhouse - :D
Contra - the series has held my interest even through some seriously rough patches. Why did IV have to be DS only???
Darius - If the Darius series is truly dead, at least it went out with a bang with G Darius.
Thunder Force - I miss TecnoSoft.
Shinobi - even though the PS2 game wasn't my cup o' the proverbial leaf beverage, I still enjoyed it. I absolutely love the original arcade game and the three Genesis sequels.

Abandoned:

Castlevania - I've been a diehard CV fan for the better part of the past twenty years. But ever since LoI and the mass portable shift, I've lost interest in the series. Not in the original games, mind you (let's say CV1 through CV Chronicles), but definitely the games released after 2003 or so. Although I wouldn't mind picking up The Dracula X Chronicles just to have it.

Zelda - Link's Awakening was the last Zelda game I ever had the desire to go through.

Mario - Super Mario World was the last Mario game to really interest me, unless Mario Paint counts. Had some fun times with that one.

Metroid - Super Metroid was the last Metroid game that got my attention, although Fusion and Zero Mission don't look too bad.

Ninja Gaiden - the series stopped with II for me. III wasn't horrible to the point of being worthless, but it was definitely a step backwards. The SMS game was decent. No interest in the modern versions so far.

Discovered:

Katamari Damacy - I have yet to play any of the sequels, but I really want to.

Longtime:

Castlevania series: I own every game in this series (except the Japanese Rondo) and I have played through every one of them multiple times. Even the shitty 3D versions. And yet, I still love it.

Metal Gear series: Ever since the first game made me 'feel asleep' as a kid, I've been hooked. The upcoming release of MGS4 may just convince myself to make that next generation leap yet...

Worms games: The quintessential multiplayer game for me. I own numerous versions of these games on different systems and have no problem whipping them out whenever company stops over.

Abandoned:

Tekken series: This series is just ridiculous now. The stupid storylines, along with it's refusal to make any major changes since T3 has put the final nail in the coffin. I did enjoy T5 quite a bit, but I no longer have love for these games and I've even sold off a couple of them.

Command and Conquer series: I was horribly addicted to the original Red Alert, but I haven't played any of them since and I'm not sure if I want to.

Halo series: I loved the first one long time, but after that, just... blech. I personally don't think that the games are bad, but what really turned me off of the series was the rampant fanboyism (gamers and press alike). Geeks who would just bust a nut over everything 'Halo', like He himself had descended from the Heavens and shone upon thee this amazing video game molded from the angels themselves... gimme a break!

Discovered:

Breakdown: A buddy of mine bought this for a Christmas gift a couple of years ago, but I never bothered to try it. Turns out that I was missing out on one of the most engaging experiences that I've had in a long time! How this game never caught on is surprising (*cough* 'Halo-ites' *cough*)...

Far Cry series: I did play through Far Cry Instincts on the Xbox a few years back and absolutely loved it. I recently purchased 'Evolution' for the Xbox and after playing it, I found my love for this series rekindled. Nothing beats leaping 30 feet through the air and raining a megaton punch on an enemy who then goes flapjacking off into the wild blue yonder, heheLOL

Well....the only two franchises that I *TRULY* look forward to new releases for are Gran Turismo and (contrary to popular opinion lol) Final Fantasy. I also love me some Silent Hill...you can add nearly every old PSX mainstay, come to think of it. Any classic dungeon crawler like the Baldur's games.

I really came to like Halo as a franchise. One off stuff like Assassin's Creed. I'm a very well-rounded gamer with a wide taste range, so there's tons that I discover and like.

Mario -- Never got the lure of his games. I wouldn't let any of them touch my top 100, let alone be considered for the best game of all time. Fuck that shit.
Donkey Kong -- I loved DKC. DK64 was a big piece of steaming poo, and everything else has just furthered that sentiment (Donkey Konga? Please stop.)
God of War -- If I have to press the X button one more fucking time...I think I'll hurl. Button mash overload + nasty ass jaggy graphics on my HDTV = no thanks.

Erm...NHL 08, NBA Live 08, Madden 08. I never played sports games when I was younger, but now that I'm in college, it's somewhat mandatory. And they're pretty good in multiplayer, altough they are glitchy as all fuck.
Call of Duty 4 -- Single player is retarded, like COD2 and (presumably -- I couldn't stand playing it ever) COD3, but multiplayer is incredible.
