"Theaveng" is gone but this list lives on. What needs to be added? And if you add one, what gets bumped off to make room?

To get changes made here, you need to have your opinion "seconded" by another member. Here's what we've got to date:

Cannon Fodder
Chaos Engine, The
Hunter
It Came From the Desert
Lemmings
Lotus II
Maniac Mansion
Megalomania
Moonstone
No Second Prize
Out of This World
Pinball Fantasies
Pirates!
Populous 2
Prince of Persia
Project X
Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2
Speedball 2
Stunt Car Racer
SWOS
Syndicate
Walker
Wings
Wizkids
Xenon 2

I'd have to say that leaving off Cinemaware titles would be a serious omission when discussing any Amiga games. Games like "Defender of the Crown", "Rocket Ranger", and "The Three Stooges" (now available for GB Advance) cemented the Amiga as a superior game and multimedia machine to comparable PC offerings of the time. You're right to have so many Psygnosis games on your list (though I'd have a hard time leaving off "Agony"- an incredible scroller with GIANT sprites, and in a videogame first you play the part of an owl).

There are also a number of CD-rom games. I never played those too much, but I know that they were kind of early in releasing games that used the CD to play back lush stereo music. I seem to recall titles like "Chaos Engine" being really good. OF course, there's all the CD-TV stuff that played on a regular Amiga as well...

Also in the twilight of the Amiga, a Canadian company called ClickBOOM! released a number of awesome CD games that really pushed the graphics and sound of the Amiga (making 1985 era computer still seem vastly superior to Nintendo and Sony machines of the day)- Capital Punishment was a big one, (geez I'm really blanking here on others). They also did the official ports of Myst and Doom to the Amiga.

Personally I was also really fond of Zany Golf on the Amiga. Not a good enough game to rate in the top 20, but man... I had an unhealthy love for that game...

Just a few thoughts...

No it's not... Only "theaveng" is. I can still modify the list!

I'm gonna be reviewing recent comments on these lists and make some changes soon. Stay tuned, and keep the input coming!

Well how about helping us out here, Raedon? I've added a few more from "Gulag's" suggestion but if it needs an overhaul, give me a clue. My experience with Amiga is VERY limited.

1 vote for Earl Weaver Baseball here. The graphics were good and the sound effects were pretty revolutionary for the time. (Digitized Samples) The game also kept exact stats of all your seasons. I played this game in a league for 3 straight years with some friends.

I also really enjoyed Aritcfox (another EA game).

Faery Tale Adventure.

I imagine I'll think of some more.

DP, mind if I redo this top 25 in a new post? I don't want to see Theaveng's banned a$$ at the top of any post... ever.. Especially a subject I actually care about.

The Amiga was my first love, and these lists are missing most of my favourites, and some all-time classics. My viewpoint is skewed 1990-onwards, but to be missing some of the Bitmaps and Sensibles finest is criminal. 25 off the top of my head:

Alien Breed
Another World
Cannon Fodder
Captive
Carrier Command
Chaos Engine
Dungeon Master
Eye of the Beholder
Flashback
Frontier: Elite 2
Heimdall
Hunter
Lemmings
Maniac Mansion
Moonstone
Pang
Pinball Dreams
Rainbow Islands
Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2
Sensible World of Soccer
Sim City
Speedball 2
Stunt Car Racer
Syndicate
Xenon 2
Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders

(A few of) my favourite Amiga games (and ones I also own) - No order.

Chaos Engine
Robocop 3
Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
Cannon Fodder
Sensible World of Soccer
F1GP
Syndicate
Super Skidmarks
Settlers
Zool 2
Lotus Turbo Challenge
Flashback
Secret of Monkey Island 2
Streetfighter 2
Turtles - The Coin Op
Frontier: Elite II

Only a few, also, what Amiga games are now of some value? (e.g becuase they are rare)

Thanks.

Oh I forgot to mention Uridium II and Chaos Engine II and Speedball II!

gamingguy
02-02-2003, 08:17 AM
Add Elite.
It has more missions than any other version (5) and 16-bit, solid-filled polygons.

Also Populous which was one of my favorites on the Amiga.

tom

Hunter from Activision (Nintendo got the Mario 64 inspiration from this)
Grand Prix from Micropose
Blood Money from Psygnosis
Walker from Psygnosis
Space Hulk from EA
Larry games from Sierra
Cannon Fodder 1 and 2 from Sensible
Turrican from Rainbow Arts
The Settlers from Blue Byte
Silent Service II from Micropose
Rise of the Dragon from Dynamix
Hollywood Poker Pro from (can't remember)
Battle Chess from EA
Budokan from EA
Cinemaware games
Desert Strike from EA
Ultima 5 + 6 from Origin
Monkey Island 1 and 2 from LucasArts

And I still use my Amiga nowadays, wouldn't be without it (Never liked the ST, for me the Amiga (Jay Miner) was more like an Atari than Commodore (Tramiel) ever was.

gamingguy
02-02-2003, 11:21 AM
The flaw with the ST was the sound. It didn't have that rich, deep sound produced by Amiga's Paula chip. Amiga had a kind of "echo" effect that even today sounds fantastic on a Surround Sound Stereo.

And for me, Commodore Amiga was like an upgraded Commodore=64. The C=64 had the best graphics and sound of any 8-bit platform. Likewise, Amiga had the best graphics and sound of any 16-bit platform. For me, Amiga was like a direct child of the C=64.

Ianwuk

Hunter inspired Mario 64? Since when?

Hunter is great though!

I never really used a C64, I'm looking for Metal Gear for it (let me know if you have it).

The Amiga had superb sound quality, I still love music from games like Speedball 2 and the great theme tune from Cannon Fodder!

Personal favourites (most of which have already been mentioned) -

Captive
Carrier Command
Championship Manager '93 (Before the series became a bloody spreadsheet)
Frontier - Elite 2
Hunter
Kick Off 2
Lotus Turbo Esprit Challenge
Midwinter
Moonstone
Pinball Dreams
Sensible World of Soccer (The original need the bugs patching but still...)
Stunt Car Racer
Zak McKracken & The Alien Mindbenders

This is one of those lists that will be very subjective considering how many great games there were. My top 10 includes:

1. Speedball 2 - I don't like sports-like games except for this one, which is my all-time favorite sports-like game
2. Moonstone - never beat the boss in this game! grr.. what happens when you win?
3. Myth
4. Gods
5. Super Frog
6. Agony - excellent graphics, music, and atmosphere
7. Some game like Dungeon Master that was better - can't remember the name - Black something or other I seem to recall
8. Out of This World
9. James Pond 2 - superb platformer
10. Wings - I beat this excellent game
11. Nuclear War
12. Megalomania
13. Populus
...

And then there's all those Psygnosis, Cinemaware, Lucas Arts, arcade ports, Dragons Lair, and shareware games that were off the hook!

Okay,
I'll take a crack at this... :D This should get the list heading in the right direction...

Let keep these 15 for now

Agony
Battle Chess!
Dragon's Lair
FOFT: Federation of Free Traders
Hostages
Lemmings
Maniac Mansion
Marble Madness
Pirates!
Shadow of the Beast (Psygnosis)
Sim City
Stunt Car Racer
Test Drive 1 &2: The Duel
The Pawn (Magnetic Scrolls)
Wings

And swap these:
Rocket Ranger for Defender of the Crown. Defender of the Crown was the first, but Rocket Ranger represents the best Cinemaware title to me as the most fun and most playable

Lotus Espirit Turbo Challenge for Out Run. Outrun was a so so port of the great arcade game. Lotus had that outrun feel, but adds two player plus crazy hills.

R-Type II for R-Type. R-Type II is a much better conversion on the Amiga.

Star Glider II for Star Glider. Star Glider is a fun game with vector polys, but the sequel had shaded polys and a whole solar system to explore.

Arkanoid for Altered Beast. Altered Beast is fun but Arkanoid is a spot on conversion.

Gauntlet II for STUN Runner. Ditto.

Chaos Engine for Wing Commander. Chaos engine is a great two player shmup in the gauntlet vien with some puzzle elements added in. The style graphics and sound are awesome. Wing Commander is a fun game, but the amiga port is chunky on a not accelerated machine and is better played on a 386.

Out of This World (Another World) for Space Ace. Out of This World is a great cinematic game with cool atmospheric gameplay.

Cannon Fodder for Pac-Mania (3D). Cannon Fodder is Lemmings with guns. squad based mission combat with tiny men. Plays great with the mouse.

Pinball Dreams for Ballistix. Pinball Dreams is still one of the best pinball games. Great Graphics and Sounds. The sequel Pinball Fantasies has fancier tables, but the ball physics of Dreams is tighter.

Anarchy for Operation Wolf. The best updated Defender clone. Better than D2K

Prince of Persia for Dragon's Lair 2: Escape from Singe's Castle. Prince of Persia is a milestone platform game, still holds up, and the Amiga plays one of the best versions.

Cheers,
Ben

Eh. I disagree.

Lotus Espirit Turbo Challenge for Out Run. Outrun was a so so port of the great arcade game. Lotus had that outrun feel, but adds two player plus crazy hills.
I'm not a good judge of racing games, but I would tend to agree here.

So, how is Sensible World of Soccer not on this list yet?

For that matter where's Wizkid, Monkey Island 1 & 2, Cannon Fodder, Pinball Fantasies, Syndicate, Megalomania, Populous 2, Robocod, Moonstone? A lot of these have been mentioned so put them in!

The Amiga Wing Commander was awful, ditto the Dragons Lair games for anything. Operation Wolf and Battle Chess are hardly amazing either...

Seriously, someone update this list!

Updated.... but now the list is TOO BIG. Someone gonna chop a few titles from here that don't belong on a top 25 list?

As a long time Amiga fan, One title that is definitely waaay up my list is "Stardust" by Bloopdhouse. This is a fabbo take on "Asteroids" and is in fact my favourite Amiga game ever.

There was a souped up A1200/CD32 follow up called "Super Stardust" which was great, but I personally preferred the first.

Other games that would definitely be in my top 25 are:

Cannon Fodder
Sensible Soccer
Civilisation
Wings
Lotus 2
Rainbow Islands
Uridium 2
Guardian
Ruff 'n Tumble
Seek and Destroy
Speedball 2
Chaos Engine
Banshee
Fire & Ice
Dynablaster

WhooHoo to most of the posts!

I'm new to the board and don't wanna ruffle any feathers. I agree with many of the posts above. Going through the lists I saw some rare gems missing. So here is my list

·Axe of Rage (I still laugh when the dino bites barbarians head off)
.Black Crypt (In its day the graphics were mind numbing)
·Bomberman (If your amiga had 4 joysticks this game was great)
·California Games (Another ultimate party game)
·Defender of the Crown (I bought a GBA just to replay this game)
·It Came From the Desert (Comon ! shoot the ants attenae off! Chessy Fun!)
·Jaguar XJ220 (my racing fav)
·Lords of the Rising Sun (Great strategy/arcade hybrid very deep game)
·Nuclear War (Funny, Funny and WAY better than the pc version)
·Out of This World (Great Graphics, neat puzzles...too short)
·Pirates (Classic)
.Projectyle (Again if your amiga had 3 joystics..AWSOME game)
.Rocket Ranger (Cinemaware does it right)
·Speedball 2 (Good future sport sim)
·Star Control (Great fun and WAY better than the pc version)
·Stunt Car Racer (okay the graphics stunk but with a null modem cable..wow)·
UFO - Enemy Unknown (Xcom to most. Best turn based warfare ever!)
·Warlords (another deep strategy sim)
·Wings (Another Cinemaware, physics were simple but the story was great)
·World Games (SUMO WRESTLING)
·Zany Golf (simple but to date the best mini gold ever)

Okay as you can see I chose games that I could either play with others or if I was alone it tended to be a sim.

In regards to a top 25 amiga games list, I find it hard to believe "Killing Game Show" didn't make it on. I don't know what I'd bump, but I would definitely say that if this were my list, I would kill all the titles that were released for other platforms, unless the Amiga version was clearly superior in some [very very amazing] way. I guess KGS was released for the genny (Fatal Rewind, wasn't it?), but didn't have the "killer" soundtrack.

Ballistix - good but outside of top 25 list
Pac-Mania (3D) - mediocre port of the Arcade game
R-Type - a good port but available on many other systems
STUN Runner - very bad port of the excellent arcade game
Wing Commander - mediocre port of the PC game

I nominate removing the above games for the above reasons. Anyone second?

Good grief there are some GLARING mess ups going on here! :eek 2:

le geek: I'd second thoughs titles without a second thought. I mean STUN runner! How did that get there in the first place?! x_x

I don't want to sound 'Countryist' but you should be looking to all the UK'ers out there to provide input into this list, the rest of Europe too. As far as I know the Amiga was far 'bigger' here then in the states. Many more games were produced over here and some possibly never made it over the pond.

Heres a few people should be really thinking about, in no particular order:

Populous (A milestone)
Rainbow Islands (a better conversion there has never been)
Any of the great trilogy of Cinemaware games:
Rocket Ranger
It Came from the Desert
Wings
Turrican 1&2 (HOW CAN THESES NOT EVEN BE MENTIONED SO FAR!?)
Rick Dangerous 1&2 (Classic action/platformers)
Speedball 2 (THE classic future sports game)
Alien Breed (Excellent atmospheric shoot em up)
F-29 Retaliator (Great action flight sim, fantastic programming)
Midwinter (Epic adventure game)
Xenon 2 (Brilliant shoot em up, great gfx and sound track)
Shadow of the Beast (Another milestone in gfx and sound. Granted gameplay wasnt the best but it deserves a place because of its significance)

Thats all for now... :D

Stardust by Bloodhouse HAS to go in....My favourite Amiga game ever, and the best Asteroids type game I have ever played.

Another game that is RIGHT UP THERE is "Guardian" a sort of 3D Defender.

Also Cannon Fodder HAS to be in there, and another game I thpought was underrated was "Bobs bad day".

gizmo1990
03-03-2004, 10:46 AM
Hmm I'd agree with Cannon Fodder not so sure (thats a no then :) ) about the others.

Talking of Sensible games... as has already been mentioned, SWOS should definitely be in there. It's still the best 'pinball' type depiction of the beautiful game, though I have fond memories of Kick off 2. :)

Ooh that names just reminded me of another game, SWIV! aka Silkworm 4. A fantastic shoot em up, rarely mentioned.

If your looking for a defender type game then 'Datastorm' would get the nod from me.

Someone asked about rare titles:
The latest Edge Retro Special has a ten-page article on the history of the Amiga and lists some rare titles:
Selection:

The Great Giana Sisters - Pulled from shelves almost immediately as it is a carbon-copy of Super Mario. Great game. In some ways better than SMB as it is higher-rez than the NES version.

Katakis: R-type clone that was pulled. But developer Factor-5 was signed up to convert R-Type to the Amiga.

Shadow of the Beast: In bundle with T-Shirt

I think a problem with this thread is that people are straying slightly off topic...

I think we all have favourites that we enjoyed for one reason or another but that doesnt necessarily mean they should be considered 'the best' on the Amiga.

I think Ambermoon, Battle Squadron, Data Storm, Lionheart and Paradroid 90 weren't mentioned yet.

Beat ya to Datastorm! :P

Parodius: Yeah the latest Retro special is good but its more slanted towards the most collectable/hard to find games not the best. BTW I still think Factor 5's Denaris is the better straight forward shooter. Again I say... why hasnt Factor 5's 2 (the 3rd was poor) Turricans been mentioned!!?? X_x X_x Bizarre.

You know how, when doing lists like this, theres always the titles that no one can argue with? That everyone just holds their hands up and says "Yes that definitely has to go in" Like Halflife being one of the best PC games ever and Super Mario World one of the best games full stop. Well thats what we should be doing here.

Seriously there are some very odd games people are coming up with...

So I'll lay down the gauntlet and propose a short list below that no one can agrue with. Lets see how we get on with this.

Speedball 2
Populous
Lemmings
SWOS
Turrican 1&2
Stunt Car Racer
Rainbow Islands
It Came from the Desert
Shadow of the Beast
Prince of Persia
Xenon 2

I defy anyone to argue that each of the above doesnt deserve to be in the top 25, any takers?

Personally I'd add the ones below too but thats not the point of this post.
Carrier Command
Flashback
Rick Dangerous 1&2
Alien Breed
F-29 Retaliator

Just a few points.....

Why Turrican 1 AND 2?

I thought 2 was better.

I'd also possibly query shadow of the beast......2 was better and Brattacus and Barbarian paved the way......

Your right, Turrican 2 was better in every respect but that doesnt stop 1 being a phoenomenal shooter too. Because it was so good they would both deserve a place imho.

I'd also possibly query shadow of the beast......2 was better and Brattacus and Barbarian paved the way......
Again yes SOTB 2 had marginally better gameplay, though I don't think you could say it had better gfx or sound but the influence of the first one is immense. In a sense it was an 'event' and if I had to play one now it would still be the original.

And where is Stardust and Cannon Fodder? I defy anyone to argue that each of those two doesnt deserve to be in the top 25, any takers?
Ooh I couldnt let this one go could I!? ;)
Cannon Fodder, absolutely top 25 here we come.
Stardust... Im sorry but I don't think that should claim a top 25 spot. I mean, just think of all the Amiga's back catalogue... I totally think it was (is) a great game but top 25 material? No sorry.

I think there will always be titles that people will say 'hey, why isnt that in the top 25' thats to be expected. But I see no reason why we can't come up with a top 25 were people wouldnt 'disagree' with any of them?

It is tough trying to find the common game. Everyone has different tastes in gaming. So what some people may like, others may not. In any case, most of my top games have been mentioned already. Here are some of my top games that I don't think have been mentioned yet.

No Second Prize (Superb Vector Motorcycle Racing Game)
Bad Land OR Indy Heat (Same type of Racing Games)
Ballistyx
Blood Money
Sword of Sodan
Project X
Gods
Walker (This is a MUST on the top Amiga Game list of all time!)
Fourth and Inches (Football)(These games were so intence that me and my friend actually wrestled after every game)
Ishar 1-2 (Both are Superb!)(RPG)
Killing Game Show
Motorhead (This game cracks me up)(Kick ass with a guitar)
Onslaught
Overdrive (Team 17)
Rotox
The Persian Gulf Inferno (And to think it came out before the Gulf War)
War In the Middle Earth (Best Version on any Platform at the time)
Wrath of the Demon
Jaguar XJ220 (Best Racing game at the time)

I currently have 847 Amiga ECS games. So I can drag this list on forever, but I'll end it there and hopefully one of you see it and say, "Oh yeah, I remember that one!"

Hey DP! (or another kind mod) could we get the five titles nixed from the list :)

I don't want to sound 'Countryist' but you should be looking to all the UK'ers out there to provide input into this list, the rest of Europe too. As far as I know the Amiga was far 'bigger' here then in the states. Many more games were produced over here and some possibly never made it over the pond.

As a USAer(?), I agree that many of the best Ami games were from Europe. I don't think the Amiga was necessarily bigger in the UK, more that it lasted a good bit longer.

Anywho, I agree that the list needs some work. A mod is the only one who can edit the first post. As I understand it from other "top games" lists, we need to "nominate" two more games to be taken off the list to have a nice even 25. Then someone needs to "second" those two being removed.

Then people need to nominate one of there favorite missing games they want to swap for a game already on the list. (hypothetical example: drop Dragon's Lair for Another World (Out of This World)). After much hashing it out, we should have a pretty solid Ami list...

Cheers,
Ben

Hmm. Good thread. I second Alien Breed Tower Assault, Lionheart, Pinball Dreams, Stardust, and It Came From the Desert.

One game that _needs_ to be on there is Deluxe Galaga. It's a shareware title, but it's truly one of the best Amiga games ever. It's also the best Galaga clone ever.... way better than Gaplus and the like. Anyone want to back me up on that?

I vote for Stunt Car Racer, It Came From The Desert, Flood, Menace, Blood Money, Pioneer Plague, Ballistix, Mind Walker, Wings

Overrated games are Shadow of the Beast 1, Faery Tale Adventure, Test Drive

What about Colonization? I must have spent literally a couple of weeks worth of time playing and replaying Sid Meier's Colonization. One of the best strategy games I've ever played.

'Hunter' still not on the list yet? Criminal.

It looks like we need to remove seven games from the list, by nominating then having them seconded. Then we can hash out swapping in different games.

I nominate removing STUN Runner which is a bad port of a great arcade game. Anyone second? :)

Cheers,
Ben

I could happily see the back of most of these:

Agony
Ballistix
Bloodhouse
Defender of the Crown
FOFT: Federation of Free Traders
Hostages
James Pond: Codename Robocod - Never really liked the Pond games. Always seemed like a poor man's Amiga answer to Mario/Sonic without any of the depth or finesse.
Marble Madness - Nothing to make this incarnation stand out above the many others.
Pac-Mania (3D) - Nothing too special.
Shadow of the Beast - Ick. A graphical showcase does not a good game make.
Star Glider
STUN Runner
Test Drive 1 &2: The Duel - bleh. These aren't fit to kiss the shoes of No Second Prize.
The Pawn
WizKid

Most are decent games, but there's far better titles that should be listed instead - I'll second the following which have already been mentioned:

Gods - not the finest Bitmaps game, but still excellent
No Second Prize - Simply stunning motorbike racer. Mouse controlled, which sounds odd but it really works :)
Project X - beautiful and extremely tough shooter
Walker - innovative, beautiful looking and solid fun. Quality.

And Hunter HAS to be in there. It's probably my second or 3rd favourite game of all time. I spent about 18 months trying to find a decent boxed copy of it a year or two back, and was worried that it would either have dated or wouldn't be everything I remembered. I needn't have worried, it's still outstanding to this day. And you can run over the cows.

And Lotus II improves on Lotus Esprit in just about every way. I always preferred Toyota Celica GT Rally to either of them, though.

Damn, the Ami probably deserves a top 40/50 list - there's far too many classics to cram into 25. Just reading through some of the older posts reminded me of more - Captive & Midwinter, for a start...

Bah, no edit function. But SWOS isn't listed yet either? @_@ That is simple inexcusable insanity.
I had a friend in high school who didn't turn off his Amiga for literally about 3-4 months while playing this - he would play it before school in the morning, pause it & turn the TV off, and then come back in and resume his game straight afterwards until going to bed, when it was paused again. True story - I'm amazed his A500 didn't blow up :)

I've made a bunch of edits to the list. Actually, there are 26 on there now.

From here out: if you think a game needs to be added, tell me why. You should also choose a game that needs to get bumped off the list in its place and tell me why.

Let me second (and third) some titles and maybe add some more..

Hired Guns

I'd like to see Gods replaced with The Chaos Engine. Both are Bitmap Brothers games, but Chaos Engine is an inspired 1-2 player gauntlet type game, except if you only have one player the CPU will play the other guy for you (with pretty good AI no less!).

I'd love to see Wizkid back on the list. Its the sequel to Wizball by Sensible Software (makers of Cannon Fodder and SWOS). I have yet to play such an inspired piece of lunacy! Part of the game is played using only your head in a breakout type game, the other parts you play in your body solving humorous puzzles including how to actually get to all the levels! I vote to swap it with Rainbow Islands. While Rainbow Islands is a good arcade port, Wizkid is an Amiga exclusive.

Cheers,
Ben

I'd agree that Chaos Engine deserves the nod over Gods, though I'd include both if at all possible.
And I've only played Wizkid briefly, but it sounds like these guys above are more familiar with it. Swapping it for Rainbow Islands sounds reasonable - while the Amiga had one of the best RI conversions, it is also on several other systems and the newer PSX/Saturn ones are practically arcade perfect.

Also, Sim City is possibly another contender for the chop - it's a stone cold classic, but the Amiga version doesn't really add anything over the PC original. Could mebbe squeeze Alien Breed (Special Edition)back in in it's place.
And that's my last post on the subject for now - 5 or 6 responses is quite enough for one day LOL Think I'll go dust off my A1200 and break out a few of these gems instead...

Damn shame that the vultures that scooped up Commodore never did anything with the Amiga, suprising really since that was the only thing
of value the company had at the end.

Never owned an Amiga but I jealously wanted one once my buddy put
away his 64 for a 500 while I languished with my 64.

Sim City was at its best on the Amiga, great graphics and sound that the PC
never had.
Elite
Pirates!
Faery Tale Adventure
Zak Mckrakken
Defender of the Crown

Frontier Elite II should not be on any top 25 list, the game expanded nicely
on the missions and trading but the combat was a total bore over the
original.

You know . . . I fired up the Amiga not too long ago after not messing with it for 5 or 10 years . . . and I have to say that the load times really killed the fun on some of these games.

Rocket Ranger and It Came from the Desert are fun games, but be prepared to wait around while it loads . . . a lot.

I tend to favor the games that load in one shot . . . which limits me to shooters for the most part.

LOL

I guess all of those cartridges and fast consoles have spoiled me.

Ok i missunderstood the original post..I thought it was a post a list thread..

turrican 2 should be added to the list because its the best game on the amiga period. 8-) Its a great run n gun but instead of being straight forward like say contra its like a metroid game chopped up in smaller levels. Combine that with good graphics and absolutly fucking awsome music and you got one of the best games ever imo.

Hmm, i dont think i could name 25 fav's but here are a few which stick in my mind

James Pond 2: Robocod
The New Zealand Story
Xenon 2 - does any other vertical shooter come close?
SWIV - ah if only i'd had someone other than my sister to play this with
Rainbow islands - never could complete it without the cheat (did we still call them Pokes back then?
Speedball 2
Another world or Flashback - these were fairly similar games, not sure my memory is good enough to tell the two apart
Dungeon master - never did finish it, never had the patience (still dont)
The secret of Monkey islan
Day of the tentacle

Keep in mind i never got along with sports or driving games.

A friend of mine used to have an Amiga. I haven't played it a lot though.
I remember Lemmings, Robin Hood, Silk Worm, Warzone and Wings of Fury.

Lemmings and Silk Worm should be on the list.

I read through this entire thread for the first time, and I'm shocked and appalled by the total lack of Sierra games. What gives? I think Conquests of the Longbow and The Colonel's Bequest are both top-notch. The former for its gameplay variety, detailed plot, and creative use of source material (Robin Hood). The latter for its nonlinear structure, excellent dialogue, and for simply being a unique style of game.

I also think Ultima IV deserves mention. Perhaps most people think of it as an 8-bit game, and it doesn't exactly take advantage of the Amiga's graphics and sound capabilities, but I found the Amiga version much easier to play, due to the mouse interface.

In no particular order, games I played quite a bit (off the top of my head):

1. New York Warriors
2. Wings (was addicted to this til I beat it)
3. North & South
4. Turrican
5. Silkworm
6. Battle Squadron
7. Ikari Warriors
8. Fernandez Must Die
9. R-Type
10. International Karate
11. Defender of the Crown
12. Sword of Sodan
13. Shadow of the Beast (too hard for me tho)
14. Robocop
15. Double Dragon II
16. Bad Dudes
17. Blood Money
18. Giana Sisters
19. Andre Panza Kickboxing
20. TV Sports Football
21. IT Came From the Desert
22. Super Cars
23. Loom
24. Prince of Persia
25. Technocop

- Ghouls n Ghosts
- Budokan
- Dynasty Wars
- Carrier Command
- Dogs of War
- Space Ace
- Shinobi
- Lords of the Rising Sun
- Operation Wolf

Didn't get around to some sequels, later games. I kinda stopped playing Amiga games around 92.
