All right, here's the deal. I want to completely format my N64 copy of Resident Evil 2. How would I go about erasing all the saved data on the cart? I've checked a few things online, but haven't had much luck.

Any ideas?

Isn't Resident Evil 2 one of the few games that uses a battery for saving? If so, open up the cartridge and remove it (easiest way is to use a soldering iron; then you can put it back with no damage). Leave it out for a little while (I've read some people claiming games holding saves for up to an hour without a battery, but I've never tried it). Before you put the battery back in, play the game and see if you have any save games still. If so, just wait longer...

Hope that helps.

I believe if you hold down the trigger as the game starts you can format the game.

A simpler, if less technically enjoyable, solution :)

Did you try holding the start button as you load the game up? It works for blast corps, and should work for this game and others. It should and will bring up a menu for the game if the start button holding strat works. :) Yes i said strat....

I think that's only for games that support a Controller Pak. I could be wrong, but it didn't work on games that only offer cartridge save.

I know I reformatted my wrestling games (they call it "initializing"), but of course, they allow both cartridge and controller pak saving.

So Cloud121, did my work or not?

Sorry for the late reply.

Yeah, I tried holding Start down just like you do for controller paks numerous times before I even made the topic. No go. I even tried the Z trigger, as suggested. Still nothing.

Never ran into a game where that didn't work, werid....

So what doesn't it erase unless you completely format it?
