Yeah, they pretty much had to with games like Soul Calibur being released.

So does this mean Microsoft is going to release a $100 1GB memory card now? They released the $50 512 right after the bumped the XBLA size limit up to 150MB, right?

it really pisses me off just how much M$ gouges us on hardware prices... 100 for wifi adapter? 50 for 512mb mem card... 120gb hd for what was it? 200?

prices are ridiculous. they should stick to making money off of software and at least give us a break on the hardware.

I don't care about the size cap if it means we're one step closer to Super SFII Turbo :villagepeople:

All three consoles are gouging us for accessories and nickel-and-diming us with DLC. It's "the future" of gaming.

It's the past, too.

LOL this sort of shit is why I abandoned modern console gaming in favor of modern PC gaming... I get all the same stuff for only half the price, and all the upgrades required to play the newest generation of games are no more expensive than the cost of all the newest consoles with all the extra stuff... plus I still get to play all the latest console games that are actually worth playing, minus the higher prices of the console versions, which tend to be inferior when compared to the PC versions anyway... and I get to laugh my ass off at everyone silly enough to pay assloads of cash for the same stuff!

I love my 360, But I'd hafta agree with your statement.

At least Sony didn't (Surprisingly) use a proprietary format, like MS did, and you can slap any sized notebook SATA HD to upgrade the storage capacity. My 60BG PS3 is now a 250GB PS3, and it only cost me $115 vs MS's $180 for the 120GB. And the notebook hard drive has over twice the capacity of the 360 biggest HD.

The 360's 120gb HD is still way too overpriced, for my taste.

I'd say Nintendo gouges worst of all. $240 for a full set of controllers, $80 for a set of classic controllers, and $8 for SNES games that are emulated and cost them probably a penny or two a download in server space (not even). Boo. Plus with all those $10 or $20 plastic shells they keep releasing...argh.

Although I'd say Microsoft comes in a close second, what with that $200 120GB hard drive. I mean, seriously, Microsoft, what the fuck? Give me a 500GB HD for $150. Like, you know, it should cost, you fucking pricks.

Microsoft makes less then $20 on those hard drives. They're not exactly gouging, it's just expensive to manufacture, assemble and ship the enclosure.

Just how do you know Microsoft's profit margin on their 120 gig hd? Not saying your lying or it isn't true, I'm just curious.

ok... so sell the freaking enclosure separately and let us put our own HDs in. fucking pricks. the ps3 lets us do it.

and i like how you ignored the 50$ memory cards. how fucking hard would it be to let the 360 use SD or CF slot. fucking dirt cheap! theyre so damn paranoid w/ potential hackers. i would LOVE to backup my shit on PC. one of the biggest reasons the 360 is popular is XBL, they can just use that to track (and ban) custom firmwares etc.

I'm not ignoring anything, i'm simply answering the questions that were asked. I'd kindly prefer you not swear at me.

The Xbox memory cards run on a 3.3 volt rail instead of the usual 5 volt rail that other devices run on. This makes them more expensive.

The reason memory cards are so expensive is so Microsoft can start to make back some of the BILLIONS of dollars they've lost in the Xbox division to date. Things are going to be more expensive then they should be until microsoft makes back some of the money they've lost. If you don't like that, it's a 3 horse race. Pick a different console or live with it.

No you don't get to play all the console games worth playing. There are tons of excellent console-exclusive games that will likely never be available on the PC. Even the ones that do come out are often a year or so after the fact. I'm a strong advocate of PC gaming and probably buy at least 2-3 new PC games a month, but ignoring the console world means you are missing out on some great games.

EVERYTHING will end up on PC eventually. You may have to wait a generation or two, but sooner or later, everything is playable on PC.

sorry, i wasnt swearing at you, much apologies. you are definitely one of the more respected members here, and i really appreciate your insight into much that we do not know.

i was swearing at MS. and i dont have to choose any other console, ill just buy used or not buy at all. it hurts their bottom line and i get a piece of hardware for a much better price (ive gotten the halo3 wireless headset online for 29$, wireless controllers for 20, 256mb cards for 15). the only thing MS ever got direct money from me for, was my 360. when they come to their senses, they will see more.

Just seems to me if you had ponied up the extra cash at the beginning instead of trying to be a cheap ass and get the system without a hard drive you wouldn't have to worry about memory cards anyways. Would it be great if they gave other options available to have bigger hard drives etc, of course, but its not so you just have to deal with what you have.

Thankfully I still had my wireless adapter from the original xbox so I didn't have to buy one.

um i do have a hd w/ my xbox. its the halo edition... and im hardly a cheap ass by any stretch of the word.

memory cards come in very handy if you have *gasp* friends w/ whom you wanna play a multiplayer game in *gasp* the same room! and then go back home and play it by yourself. so youd need a way of transporting the saves and your gamertag.

im just very pissed at M$ for not letting the user use his own HDs...

And just wait for when Nintendo finally releases a real storage solution to make up for the gimpy internal memory. People keep thinking they're going to make it so you can use an external USB drive, but this is Nintendo and I guarantee it's going to be something proprietary, it's going to be a less than perfect solution and it's going to cost. Of course, the fanboys will think it's the best thing ever...

But, at least they don't charge an extra $100 for a wireless adapter. To me, that's an even bigger rip than the HDD price.

Back to the topic at hand, glad they did this. It was getting really curious when a map pack for Call of Duty was like half a gig, yet the games were capped at a very small size. Never could figure that out. Now, if they'd just drop the prices on about a dozen games, I'd be a really happy camper. :D

360 Pro: $350.
Two memory cards: $100.
Three extra controllers: $120.
Headset: $45
Hypothetical HDD Upgrades: $300.
Hypothetical memory card upgrades: $200.

You can make a $558.00 PC ("half" of the $1,115.00 spent on a 360) from 2005 play the "newest generation" of games from, say, 2010? How can you do that?
EDIT: I see that you are talking about the combination of every new console. Even so, we would still spend about the same and I think you would spend more and have fewer gaming options.
