My main refurbished NES died. So I pulled out a pile of other refurbished NES units I was planning on selling and decided to find a working unit (since I was too lazy to repair my main system). I noticed that all three of my spare systems had non-working controller ports!?!? I opened them up and checked the wiring. Seemed good.

I guess the main question is: where do I find a replacement? Am I up shit creek here?

A secondary question should be: is this issue normal?!?!?

I question your diagnosis, because in the 1700+ NES's I've seen, I've seen maybe 1 bad controller port.

Is your controller good?

Are the internal port cables connected correctly (not inverted or reversed)?

Could be the motherboard itself, no longer interpreting controller logic correctly. That I've seen on a few rare occasions.

Re- check what your doing before proceeding.
