I understand why they can do this because by law someone still holds the copyrights to those games, but come on! It's the Vic-20 we're talking about here! Yeesh! This doesn't bode well for other more popular systems... Watch out Ti-99/4a, you're next!

Shouldn't they be more worried about people posting X-Men 2 rips or something?

It's funny but I use that SAME exact philosophy on the authorities when I get pulled over for something silly like speeding.

"Shouldn't you be more worried about the murderers and drug dealers or something?"

And oddly, this statement bears little meaning if any to the authorities. I think they just want to catch ALL of the bad guys. Big and small.

the problem wasn't the cart images it was the FTP folder being named /ROMS.. They got a automated sease and desist. If they had named the folder /game_carts we wouldn't be typing this now.

and drug dealers are just liquor store owners that don't pay taxes.. The cops should be after murders and child molestors, wife beaters and those going 101mph in a 55..

I have to go back to the Texas Chainsaw/Halloween dual cart debate when I argued that these games were still copyrighted. Someone argued that the games in question were Atari games after all and that nobody cared about them anymore because they were so old.

Obviously some companies still do.

Maybe I'm just stupid or something but wouldn't they have to show you proof that they actually had the rights to the games they wanted you to remove? With this kind of logic, I could just call myself the Software Publisher Association and go around to different websites saying I'd sue them if they don't remove things even though I really have no legal right to do so. Seems to me that they are just trying to scare people.

This happened to the-underdogs a while back. At first they took all the links down. But then they realized that if the game company does not exist anymore or if the company that made the game isnt a member of the IDSA then the IDSA doesn't have the authority to force them to remove those links. So they just took down the links to the games of current IDSA members. I fail to see how Vic-20 images are being protected by the IDSA. Perhaps some games are still protected (atari/infogrames) but surely not all.

Fun to see the power of a form letter...

Yeah, but INTV is being sold new, by the copyright owners. Very nicely packaged, and commercially handled.

In that way, intelly roms are a viable commercial product right now. IMO, the discs they offer are worth it for the trivia and interviews, and the old ads.

I also have a cool shirt, and a mug too. :D
