View Full Version : Two quick DS emulator questions

That is, relating to running emulators on a DS, not emulating DS, hence the thread is in Classic Games ahem...
1. StellaDS v 0.7: How does one go about changing the difficulty settings from A to B or vice-versa? And if it's not yet possible, is there a another decent 2600 emu out there that allows this function?
2. JenesisDS v 0.7: Sometimes it just seems to stop working altogether. One day it will load a ROM, sound is good, etc. Then the next day the emu will hang when trying to load the same game. It seems like if I temporarily move the contents of my flash card off, then back on that acts as a band-aid, but there's got to be a more permanent solution than this.
Any help on either of these would be greatly appreciated.

StellaDS: That's a very good question, and one I unfortunately do not have the answer for. Documentation is fleetingly and embarrassingly sparse, and random button combinations seemed to have no effect, even on games like Space Invaders where the difficulty switch has a noticeable change.
As far as other emulators, what you see is what you get. Sorry.
JenesisDS: This one I can field, however. Jenesis has an odd bug where the emulator only works if the DS clock is set to 00:00. Otherwise, the emulator will freeze or hang like you mentioned. There's two ways to solve this problem. One is to, obviously, change your DS clock to 00:00 manually every time you want to use Jenesis. But the second, better option is to grab the latest version of DSOrganize (http://www.dragonminded.com/?loc=ndsdev/DSOrganize). It's a "homebrew organizer" that includes a calendar, calculator, web browser, etc etc., but we want to use it for its file browsing capabilities.
Patch and place DSOrganize on your flashcard, and then run the program on your DS. Go to the file browser and then run JenesisDS like you normally would. As long as you always run JenesisDS through DSOrganize, you should be golden, no matter what time your DS clock is set to.
Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure it will, thanks. I'll get DSOrganize loaded up when I get home from work.
Playing 2600 Space Invaders and Missile Command on Diff. A is no fun. Hope to see some difficutly switch support in the next release of Stella DS.
Gapp, I'd also like to mention that it was your outstanding DS flashcard tutorials (http://www.robohara.com/?cat=21) that inspired me to look into the DS's homebrew/emu capabilities. It's seems to be a fairly burgeoning scene and based on what I've played around with so far the DS is a fantastic platform for this sort of thing. So I thank you for piquing my interest as you did. Good stuff.

Hey, thank you! I'm actually in the process of giving the entire thing a facelift and then combining all the parts into one document. I think there's already a thread about them around here, though; so I'll just bump that up when the time comes. Thanks again!

What? Are you kidding? I've never experienced that. Do you mean only with certain flash carts or certain Genesis ROMs or something?

Seriously? Maybe it's just a conflict with Max Media Dock, then. Here's a thread (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=87934&page=14) that states the same problem and solution (scroll down to the posts by truebluehero and dave auto). Then there's this post (http://boards.pocketheaven.com/viewtopic.php?p=49020#49020) off of a different board that coincides with that information.
I just borrowed out my other flashcard to somebody for the weekend, so I wouldn't be able to see if the same problems exist on a different card. But upon closer inspection, yeah, it does seem to be just a MMD-related problem. Sorry for the generalization.

Heh...man, what a weird bug. I can't imagine what it is in the MMD design that's causing it. Datel's products are pretty unusual, though; they're designed differently than the Chinese-made flash carts and they seem to give problems in a number of homebrews.
I can confirm jEnesisDS 0.7 working with no problems in an Acekard RPG and M3 Lite and previous versions (not sure if this bug was introduced in 0.7 or not) working in a CycloDS Evo and G6 Lite.
Lordus' ApprenticeMinus SMS emu is also great, by the way. And recently Neo DS has been taking up approximately 99% of my DS play time, though it doesn't work on the Games'n'Music, either, and also probably not on the MMD.

Tell me about it. Only a "preview release" and already it blows DSMasterPlus out of the water. Everything I've thrown at it seems to work without any problems (excepting 3-D and lightgun games, of course).
