I have a PALCOM PX-7 I think it is called...everytime I put an MSX 2 cart in, garble appears.

That's because the MSX2 has a more advanced graphics chip and more RAM. You'll have to get an MSX2 computer or you can take the hard route and upgrade your MSX to MSX2 spec.

I understand that, ok, how do I upgrade the MSX if it is the model I mentioned, and is cart based.

From what I've seen, modding an MSX1 to MSX2 spec is quite difficult and involves a bit more than just replacing the VDP and upgrading the RAM. You'll have to ask around an MSX forum to see if anyone can help you.
