Should I sell my CIB (semi-mint cond.) first shipment Nintendo DS for a new DS lite?

If I were you I'd just keep it and buy a DS Lite... the original DS's are worth so little now it's hardly worth selling them... You can buy them around here for $60 all day long...

No, simply because the original DS is much, much better than the Lite.

How do you figure? The DS Lite is smaller, lighter, has better battery life, a brighter screen and better button placement.

Simply put the DS Phat D-Pad runs circles around the DS Lite's D-Pad. Otherwise everything else is 100% correct.

In all honesty the Phat isn't hugely in demand and from what i'm seeing around the boxed phats arn't bringing in a ton more for them (unless they are any of the LE's).

hmmm... I wonder if they do that in Canada too? The EB's around here sell the original DS's for $69... A used GBAsp is $59! Anyway, I've seen them for $60 on classifieds newsgroups and in pawnshops. I've got one, but if I didn't I'd pick of these cheap ones up just to have it...

Can you define "prosterity"?

And yeah, I'd keep it too.

Prosterity as it is first shipment 2004 NDS that is CIB. The only problem is the serial number sticker was worn down completely.

Sorry, you missed the (bad) joke. "Prosterity" isn't a word. But I knew what you meant. Carry on and ignore me.

with each year you keep your release ds, its losing value. get rid of it and get a lite asap. if you REALLY want to keep one, get one in 3 years when itll be cheap as hell. keep the box/instructions if youd like.

Why sell something just to buy it back down the road. If you know you want it for posterity, keep it.

cause he wants a ds lite. and he can have a lot more fun out of a ds lite. and itll be more efficient to do the upgrade now rather than later.

Why don't I just keep the DS, and save up the difference for the Lite?

And it was just for input, in the end I'd never be able to get rid of my old silver friend.

I have plenty of time before the DS2 comes out (it's done already. good job nintendo). The only one that will be hard for me to get is the Triforce gold one.

That's arguable because of the d-pad, but I definitely like my Lite a lot more than my old fatty. If you look at an original DS after having played the Lite for awhile you'll swear you've got cataracts. The d-pad is a step backwards, but it's not unplayable.

And yeah, I would sell now and buy back later. I've done this before and never regretted it. Of course you've got your mind made up, so that's for anyone else who may be on the fence.

I picked up a mint condition Zelda DS Lite this weekend for $100 - too bad it didn't have the box... :( Still, at that price, I'm not complaining...

Down the road, a phat DS is going to be worth as much as a Genesis model 2. Unless you want to keep it for sentimental reasons, sell it.
