Tracked down a new copy of suikoden II. it has a drilled hole through its top left corner, just like any promo cds. it is NOT damage as one would initially think. any idea what this would be worth?

About the same as a normal Suiko 2. People might get a little miffed at the damaged barcode, but theres nothing they can do. It wouldn't hurt its ebay sale much at all.

I found a rare Syphon Filter 3 variant and the bar code had also been hole punched thru it's factory seal. I think some big companies do this so that when their merchandise is giving out as a prize the winner won't try to take it to a store for a refund.

the hole actually isn't through the bar code. it is through the top left corner of the front of the game. so it goes from the front to the back. here is a link to the pictures:

what is a new suikoden ii worth w/o the hole?

I don't think that game came from the manufacturer like that. The game industry doesn't really use cutouts like the music industry. More likely, that was a copy that didn't sell at retail and was sent back to the factory as a return where it was drilled. In which case, it really is just a damaged copy.
I'm not 100% sure, but i have hundreds of press and promo games and i've never seen a single cutout.

I worked in a music store for many many moons. That drill through the spine like that is typical 'promo' marking. Those came to us from the label that way. Not all got punched through the sku, and some were actually sawed along the spine and not drilled out. It's primary purpose was to damage it so it couldn't be returned to the store for moola.
I've also got a 'promo' Parappa 2 that does have its sku punched. It did come from Sony like that.

These are generally defaced when sold in a blister pack. ie. with a memory card, or 2-game bonus packs. We used to get that sort of stuff in alot (at old-school electronics boutique) with PS1 and DC games.
