Anyone else pick up this game? Or is everyone too busy playing it :)

I'm not big into pc stuff, I have played FFXI (on ps2) and gave WoW a try for a few days.

FFXI got boring after a couple of months, and sucked in low res. WoW was a bore fest.

Age of Conan is kind of repetitive, but you gain skills as you go on, which makes it more complex. The graphics are great, the combat is cool, and it seems like tons of people are playing.

I created some type of warrior guy, I should have gone with a warrior/magic user so I could get more out of the game. They give you many slots, so I might give another character a whirl.

Anyone else have opinions?

I played the beta and overstock has my limited edition copy in limbo atm, hope i get it.

The beta impressed the hell out of me, open world encounters ala everquest, weapon drops like star wars galaxies, controls based mostly off WoW "though much faster", the game just seems like alot of good elements rolled into one IP. The singleplayer story mode is also very original.

FFA PvP seems to be in question with many gamers, but come on this is a mature title, when you're out in the field what better way to release tension than doing a fatality to someone shopping after you res! Come on! Ganking aside, if you don't like it roll PvE, but this is the most fresh MMO in a while, if I like it for the long haul we will see, but it pretty much has all the elements i've been looking for and is a nice new take on the genre "finally".

I'll be playing once overstock gets off their arses.

Well, as it stands this game rocks for sure.

I'm playing on the "Bane" server that has culture pvp, and while FFA servers have their draw "domination", culture pvp is a bit nicer to me. Basically the people with the most friends rule the quest areas, respawns are timed very well for each zone. A level 10 enters a quest area, a level 15 shots an arrow at him and basically "he better leave or he will die.

Ganking really isn't necessary as the core game lends to the type of gameplay. The gankers are the lowbies who will try and pick people off one by one to grief, this game really defines what the terms mean and I believe always have meant from the days of Ultima Online.

The dungeons are constructed with such meticulous detail that you can tell this game wasn't only in development for a while, but the people that made it had a love for the work they were doing, some of the best dungeons ever conceived. You can sign up to join guild cities alot like in Star Wars Galaxies "though I haven't joined one yet", but it is the same concept, which was really cool in that game.

I'm playing a Barbarian and seeing blood squirt out of enemies i'm fighting just from using a "yell" move is very VERY awesome and satisfying. The game is a joy to play and fatalities are just something else "especially the beat in the head one".

The only way this game could fail is if they nerf too many things or rebalance for god knows what reason. As it stands this is the best MMO that I have ever played. Given i'm only level 20 atm, but all the signs point to long term success and a game that will be a staple and the one to play for years to come, even if it losses popularity.

Instant classic.

I thought of getting it but was to cheap. I believe X-play said it was the fastest selling MMO ever (I think they said MMO). 400,000 copies in week one...something like that...

There is too many Conan based games out there already. Even the comeback of them which I have not looked into yet is more of a fighting game then adventure game.

Also from the looks of the screens the game looks extermly degenerated and commercialized. Don't get it^^;

I mean it for real that is not Conan. I mean god almighty there hair is well done, and there outfits looks like Xena rejects. If not even worst then Xena or prior series

I have put more time into this conan game then just about anything in recent history. 26 hours in about a week+ of playing.

I haven't done PVP yet, but the single player is still fun (I'm level 24 now). Right now I'm doing a quest that's really hard (killing a spider queen) for my level, but the game encourages you to keep trying by having a very generous death system. Instead of losing XP, you just get a "spell" put on you for a half hour, if you find your tombstone (where you died) you remove the spell.

There is only one problem- a patch from a few days ago has made this stupid memory error. Sometimes I can play it for hours, other times only 20 minutes, before it closes down on me. Other people have the same issue, and hopefully a patch will be put out to correct this.

It's set in the Conan world, but I would still only suggest it to those looking for a cool mmo to play, being a fan of Conan simply wont be enough.

If you really are The Sizz, you've definitely lost your touch.

Yeah that is pretty nice and lends itself to some better pvp in general as it's more of a frustration than a punishment.

I lost 2 tombstones in the temple with the Black Ones and lemme tell ya, I played hell getting them back and -4 to two attributes for 30 minutes is enough to get your ass handed to you by anyone a few levels below you. It was really fun getting those tombstones back so I could kill the boss and I got ganked a few times, but man it was fun.

Some are saying that they need to put in more strict death punishment, but really I don't think so, cause since this is more about an "open world" it's more about controlling areas than ganking and rewarding players too much on the pvp side would instigate much more ganking imo. I play on culture pvp and saving someone of my race when they get ganked is so much fun. Just stay invisible and follow them to make sure they do good, when the females flash you is also quite nice, lol. :)

I think they should keep the pvp "rewards" to the battle areas for points to build up player cities and keeps and keep all the good gear in the real world, in other words..total fight for domination of all elements. Which is what I believe they plan to do.

As long as they don't do like WoW did and put the best gear in battlegrounds and make everything a grind and kill the open world pvp and instead actually focus on more open world environments rather than instances then everything should stay gravy and so far that seems to be their focus from what i've seen.

Instances so far "from my experience" are just server overflow channels. I'm not sure if their are going to be true "instances" where only groups can enter because fighting over everything is so much more fun. I'm sure there will be some to an extent, but if all is open world I will truly be amazed. Dunno i'm only level 20 atm.

We'll see, but so far I like what I see and play for sure.

I've come to find that most all
rare weapons in this game are static drops and there is absolutely no economy to speak of yet. Pretty much a boss drops the same item every time and if you already have one it overwrites it.

It's kind of a bummer as weapons and items you find have more of a generic feel and don't feel that special. It see,m that Funcom is planning to base most of the economy around end game pvp, which isn't even in place yet.

Needless to say it's hard for low level characters to make money and the drops need to be more random, the bugs with certain parts of the game don't help either.

As it stands I wouldn't recommended it fully. The game is damn fun and takes the MMO concept to a whole new level, but the game needs work and i'm not sure if it's going to work in the end. I would wait a few months till they get some stuff ironed out as it stands it is the most fun
MMO out atm, but it isn't the best mainly cause the economy is pretty non-existent and the items aren't interesting or rare enough.

I still think the best MMO's are EVE and EQ2. This game will be the best if it turns into the best case scenario, cause it's got what it takes.

I'll try and keep this post updated if and when I find out more.

So I've got a 45 bear shaman on Doomsayer, and so far the game is fun though the social element seems more remote than it has on other games... Also, "Barrens Chat" on the world channels is worse than I have ever seen. The crafting is so so, but the gathering is a f'ing nightmare. If any of ya'll check it out and decide to hit Doomsayer, look me up and I'll invite you to my (fledgling) guild.

This game is just pure fucking great.

All gripes aside, this is the most fun I have had with any game since Phantasy Star Online.

It's a much different type of game than WoW and caters more to the "role-playing" individual and it does a damn good job. The level progression is also damn good. When you finally start getting good stuff you actually feel it, cause the progression is slow at getting stuff that "looks good", lol.

Honestly, this game just keeps me playing non-stop, even when I get pissed about something I go back, the game is just fun and really it just has to be experienced it's too hard to describe.

Once you get to 40 you learn your class very well and all I have to say is that if you want a good spec you have to dig deep as there are many good variants, the tree skills actually are geared towards pure specs too, so half assin it isn't going to work.

The game is fun and keeps me playing, that's all I have to say. There's alot more that I would love to share, but I wanna go back and play and truly that should tell alot.

Btw, I bought the collectors edition and they are soon opening up the buddy program. Whoever wants a 7-day free pass just post in this thread and I will consider who to give the pass to myself. I will have 5 passes so if 5 people post post anyway, no telling who I will pick.

I decided I would do it here on the DP boards as well, I can't think of a better place. :)
