MGS4 bundle possiblely delayed?

In an attempt to add another wavebird controller to my collection I found myself at a local Gamestop. While my Wavebird searched didn't come to fruition, I found out another piece of information that surprised and would sadden me if it was true. According to the gamestop employee, gamestop wouldn't be taking pre-orders for the MGS4 bundle (and I ensured we were talking about the 80GB and not the gunmetal version) because Sony won't give them a dedicated release date. Sony wasn't guaranteeing that the bundle would make it to stores on the same date as MGS4 (the game).

I didn't think this has stopped them before, as they have taken pre-orders that have had their date pushed back. Plus I have never seen gamestop turn down a potential sale. Anyway I was wondering if you guys have heard anything about this (that their isn't a solid release date) or run into the same problem at gamestop or elsewhere. I really want this as I've been patiently waiting not only for MGS4 but GTA4. Anything you can tell me to calm my fears?

P.S. I know I should rarely trust the information given to me by a gamestop employee, but it's not like he was just mistaken, him and his manager both said that the system just wasn't taking pre-orders. No offensive to any gamestop employees here, not everyone is untrustworthy.

Try preordering a "C" game (according to their terminology). You know, like any <=$20 title.

That's generally a good stance to have. Even when something like this crops up, the only explanation you'll ever get from them is pure speculation.

No preorders on the system because it is going to be extremely limited. Each store is expected to receive a handful (approx 2-4 initially), thats the only reason there's no reserve - first come first serve. It is expected to be in the store by MGS4 launch, hopefully.


Edit: The reason you can't preorder "c" titles is because it would not be cost-effective to ship over night so they can't guarantee a date the store would receive it. If they did reserve them, everyone would complain because they didn't get their game on the release date.

They could very easily guarantee a date you'd receive it; just move the "release date" to a week later than the "ship date" rather than a day later.

Initial shipments may be small, but I'm certain this will be EVERYWHERE eventually.

We couldn't take preorders on PS3s until we knew our store's allotment. Or at least that's what they told me. I'm guessing here that Sony will either crank out a few thousand MGS bundle PS3s or a few million, but nothing in between.

Yes, their website actually had them available for pre-order for a while. I'm not sure whether they still do or not, though.

Yes. One is the special Konami online only exclusive bundle. The other is the i'll be released in stores (kinda sorta for the masses but not really) bundle.
