I figured this is as good a place as any to place this, since people here are more likely to have experience with it.

Where do you store your spare EPROMs? I have an MVS BIOS chip lying around; it's been on my bookshelf for 9 months or so, pins up. Obviously, I'm a little worried about something getting set on it, or it falling and getting stepped on, or some other disaster befalling it. Besides sticking it in a small matchbox, what's the best solution?

I know chips are often stuck into a styrofoam or similar material. This protects the pins at least.

Immerse them in jello.

At least it'll look cool.

Or just the styrofoam in a matchbox. Works for me.

If you have any of the pink anti-static foam that comes with computer boards then stick the chip on that and put it in a small box.

I would avoid using the black anti-static foam as I have lost many old, hard to find chips that way. It will deteriorate over many years and corrode up the pins on the chip. :grumble:

I found a little jewelry box in the garage. I'll use that to keep the pins safe, as well as an antistatic bag. Thanks for the suggestions. If I ever wind up with a bunch of EPROMs, I'll look into the chip tubes.
