Hi everyone,

Just curious to see what DS games are worth importing?

I am a fan of strategy/card/RPG games but need the games to be english-friendly (since I only know a bit of japenese). Please... NO plateformers! :) I am not too kind of those games @_@

Thanks!

If you like card battling games this is a very fun game, i have played it countless hours & the rules are very easy to learn.

Both Ouendan games. Like EBA but more fun and funky weird Japanese music ;)

There's also the Tingle game that never came out in the US but did in Europe...

I have just finished writing a rather deep first play of this game. You will be able to find out what it's like & how the battle system works.

I emulated a bit of the Legend of Kage remake and it was lame. I didn't have all the buttons set up right though, lol...

Ouendan, card battle games, and other gimmicky stuff doesn't draw me either. The DS might stop being a one-game system for me when 07 Commando comes out, not sure...

Very nice review. It definitely makes me want to buy that one as well. Seems deeper than the Juushinden game. :)

Borman: Eh! Music games are good as well. What I really meant is the only type of game I do not like are platform games. I just can't get into them. :)

That demo video for the game is funny to watch... :) Daigasso! Band Brothers band in action (http://www.1101.com/nintendo/band_bros/DS-demo.html)

You MUST get both of the Ouendan games.
They require no Japanese skills at all, and are pure fun.

These are both worth every penny in my book. ;)

Why do I have a feeling this one might not be all that good? :)

Both of the club nintendo games are interesting and don't require japanese reading. Game and watch basically takes your ds back twenty-some odd years and turns it into an old dual screen game and watch and Tingle's balloon fight is basically balloon fight with tingle as the title would suggest.

I like Touch Panic. It's a simple game where you move a ball around in a maze released by Nintendo itself. It's very English-friendly.

I don't know of many strategy games from Japan that are fun if you don't understand Japanese.

Well, I plan to learn japanese very soon so I can manage with a game not so english-friendly :) Also, there is a guy at work who knows japanese and could help me out with the instructions. So... if you have suggestions on strategy games, go ahead :)

Would you be interested in puzzle games as Loopop Cube: Lup * Salad DS sounds pretty good. There's a nice review (http://www.ntsc-uk.com/review.php?platform=nds&game=LoopopCubeLupSalad) of it at NTSC-uk if you're interested. :) I actually own the game, but haven't got around to playing it yet.

Puzzle games would be in my alley... got plenty of those on my NGPC :)

I will check that review. Looks interesting for sure! Well, anything that is a good workout for my brain of mine is good LOL

Another puzzle game that's got bit of a 'cult' following is Slitherlink, which Eurogamer gave a rather positive 10/10. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74357)

Bokura no TV Game Kentei. A training game on how to win at Namco Classics. Looks pretty cool, has nostalgic appeal. comes out June 26th. I'll be importing.

Dunno how likely it is the game will see release stateside?

Somewhat along the lines of Bokura no TV Game Kentei, the best import I've gotten for the DS so far has definitely been Game Center CX. It's a phenomenal game and I highly recommend it. Here's a short review.

game Center CX is a tribute to the Famicom era of games in the form of a compilation of original games with very authentic 8-bit style. The games are unlocked in chronological order starting with a very simple fixed shooter, arcade style platformer and top-down racer like you would have seen early in the Famicom's life circa 1983-84, but as you keep playing and unlocking more games, they get more advanced. I still haven't unlocked the last two games, but what i've seen already is enough to make me love the game. I like all the games in the collection so far.

Aside from almost eerie authenticity of the games themselves, you also get a ton of bonus stuff and other options that make Game Center CX a fabulous package that really puts those quickie retro collections other companies put to shame. In addition to digital representations of the games' manuals, you get a collection of Famitsu-esque magazines that chronical all the secrets and strategies for each game, all totally fake but wonderfully authentic right. Plus once you've completed each challenge for a particular game, in addition to unlocking the next game, you get to add to the previous game to your free play list where all sorts of gameplay stats are tracked.

The general presentation is simple, but really nice. When you start up the game, these two kids walk on to the bottom screen and plop down in front of the TV and they remain there the whole time while you play the games on the top screen. It's really cute and nostalgic. You can make the two kids talk sometimes and I think your friend gives you strategies on how to do wel lin the games, though I don't know what he's saying. At one point he gives you a aftermarket controller that has turbo buttons on it, which afterward become available on the DS controls.

The challenges I mentioned are given to you by this digital disembodied head thing who occassionally makes a comment or gasps or something while you're playing a game. It's not done too much, so it doesn't get annoying, and it's really cool to have some random Japanese guy expressing astonishment when you rack up a fat combo in one of the shooters or make a monster slide in the racing game. The only thing I don't like about the free play mode is that that guy's not there in that mode.

Truly an excellent and unique game or collection of games or whatever. I give it an A+ with no reservations. This should be one of the main DS imports since it's a game that will certainly come out domestically, but is easily accessible and very high quality.

Aside from Game Center CX, I'd also recommend Soukou Kihei Gun Ground (simple DS Series Vol. 18). It's not as uniformly great as Game Center CX, but it's a pretty nice sort of strategy/arcade/giant-robot-sim affair, which again doesn't seem likely to cme out in the US any time soon.
