Hi folks. I was just wondering if the hangtab variant complete NES games go for more than the non-hangtab versions? I have an SMB complete with hangtab and 5 screw. How valuable would this be over the non hangtab. Thanks in advance. - Mike

I think with certain games hangtab boxes go for more than the non hangtab boxes. With SMB the difference in price is negligable.

So does $50 sound about right?

if its just complete its worth about 15$ (and thats being generous), sealed is a whole differnt ball game.

It is worth 50 cents.

If it is sealed it is worth nothing. You may be able to sell it on ebay or to someone who is dead inside. Gamers "I know this is crazy" play games, But maybe some Obsessive compulsive may like to stare at shrinkwrap whilst pleasuring themself.

Long story short, If the "50$ about right?" comment is as an ignorant buyer.... No someone is burning you. If it is as an exploitative seller, is your soul worth 50 bucks?

SMB complete and mint/near mint might reach $15-20 at the absolute max (ie: if you're very lucky). Otherwise, it's a $5-10 game. The other games you have could very likely reach $50 since they look complete and are in great condition.

I know I have a StarTropics with the hangtab, but I didn't imagine there would be a difference really.

he's refering to early black box nes games (and a few others) that had a preforated hangtab built into the boxes (not the plastic ones stuck on the outside)

StarTropics with the hangtab? Do you have a pic?

Edit: To answer the question... Many games are worth somewhat more with the hangtab box. Any early Konami games (Track & Field, etc.) you find with hangtab boxes, however, are also many times rarer (though they only command about 2-5 times what a normal CIB would fetch). There are, however, a couple games that are actually worth more without the hangtab. A CIB Donkey Kong Jr. with the hangtab may fetch $30-$45 or so. However, one without the hangtab can fetch $75-$100 or more (assuming it has the matching 3-screw cart)...a box alone has sold for over $140 before (and to my knowledge, there are only about a half-dozen 3-screw carts of DK Jr. and about 3-4 non-hangtab boxes in existence).
