I got a new monitor a few months ago, but only recently attempted to hook up my Dreamcast to it. When I turn the DC on, instead of showing me the Dreamcast picture, the monitor gives me a message that says "Not optimum mode. Recommended mode: 1440 X 900 60 Hz". I have never run my computer at 1440X900 (and don't you have to use DVI to get that high? This is definitely plugged in to the VGA port). It displays my computer image fine.

Someone on another board said they checked the online manuals and for some reason, my monitor somehow disallows 640X480 resolution. However, if I set my computer to 640X480, it displays fine. My monitor is a Samsung 932GW. Is there any way to fix this? Any insight would be appreciated.

Nope, I've used VGA for 1600x1200 and its fine.

Then I doubt that there's a problem with your monitor displaying 640x480.

Two questions:
(1) I'm assuming your monitor is LCD and not CRT - correct?
(2) What type of VGA box are you using for the Dreamcast?

(1) Correct, LCD
(2) It's actually not a VGA box, it's a VGA cable. Some no-name cable.
