Bandai Namco is working on a new Xbox Live arcade shooter called Galaga Legions, which is a sequel to the classic shooter Galaga from 1981.

If it's as badass as Pac-Man Championship in terms of gameplay speed and as sweet as Galaga 88'. I'm sold!

Sounds awesome. Anyone know how many points? I only buy games that are 400 points ($5 USD)

Galaga already has sequels and is itself a sequel.
1. Galaxians
2. Galaga
3. Gaplus
4. Galaga '88 ('90 on TG-16)
5. Galaga Arrangement (Arcade, PS1), variation of Galaga
SO...
6. Galaga Legions
Cool news. One of my all time favorites. Only arcade machine I ever flipped (score-wise).

Pacman CE was good because it was developed by the person who created Pacman in the first place, Toru Iwatani. It was the first "true" sequel in that sense.
Who knows if the Galaga 2008 recreation would follow suite.. we'll see :)

Fixed (removed the "s" from Galaxian). :)
Interestingly enough, Gaplus was also known as Galaga 3 in the arcades.

Wasn't Super Pac-Man designed by Iwatani, also? I know Ms. was done by General Computer Corp. and Jr. was all Midway, as well..

If your looking at them as part of the Galaxian series, you forgot several like Galaxian 3 and Attack Of The Zolgear. Bet there's even more than that.

Well.. Namco definitely did Super Pac-Man. However I've never seen anything that said Iwatani was involved in the project.
Granted, I'm no expert nor do I have first hand knowledge, so who knows :P

WTF? Galaxian had sequels besides the Galagas?
And another thing....I had no idea Galaga was a true sequel (or a sequel at all) to Galaxian. Is it really? I thought it was more of a sequel in spirit if anything, like how Ikaruga is a pseudo-sequel to Radiant Silvergun. Or Highlander 2 is to anything Highlander. ;)

Good point. I never heard of Attack of the Zolgear, but I remember reading about Galaxian 3 in the arcade and it looked awesome at the time...
If you include Attack of the Zolgear you need to look at Bounty Hounds and New Space Order as well, or could call them spin-offs. Who would have thunk Galaga could have become an RPG?
