Since Capcom finally made SF4 official for 360, PS3, and it's been out in Japanese arcades for a few months now, does anyone know if it will have online play where you can play people in the arcade version versus people at home?

I think that would be pretty sweet, and may get a few people back in the arcades.

Surprisingly, I haven't been hearing many details being released about the game, at all....

I really doubt it, as I don't see it being technically possible.

SF4 hasn't come out in japanese arcades yet; they've done location tests but that's it. Hence why details have been so sketchy.

As for online play I don't see how it'd be feasible. As it stands you can't play fighting games between consoles, so I don't know how they'd work arcade machines into that mix.

Didn't Midway experiment with online UMK3 cabinets back in the day? Those only worked between other machines, granted...

My bad. I thought Capcom had already started mass producing the game. I didn't know it was still just in location testing. It's a Street Fighter game... Like it really needs location testing in Japan. ;)

As for MK3, I don't remember whether or not online play was ever a planned feature. The only game I know with arcade vs. home online play was Alien Front Online.

AFO could've been an interesting experiment, if they didn't release the home version so near the end of the Dreamcasts life.

They are releasing information officially on Rufus as well as Seth, the final boss, this week. Info is already hitting the Web via Famitsu, but the official Capcom sites will be updated with the information later this week. Also, Capcom is debuting the first U.S. television commercial for the game this Saturday during a live MMA event on CBS, after which, www.streetfighter.com will be re-launched and will detail more information and media about the game. Thus, the game is not commercially released anywhere in the world or else the internet would be filled with information on all the game's characters which we do not know about at this time.

And arcade vs. console isn't a very attractive market for arcade owners. I'd much rather have people coming in to my arcade and dumping quarters to play the game against another person. Personally, it just doesn't make sense to me business-wise and I don't know how the companies would come to terms with it, but as a gamer, yeah, it would be kind of neat.

no, its not going to happen. it's as likely as a 360 player playing against a ps3 player online. the taito x3 (arcade) specs doesn't allow online play.

The problem with your suggestion is that it wouldn't even matter in the US considering how the arcade scene died here several years ago. Sure you can still find a few arcades in some states but here in maryland you have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding a fully packed arcade filled with the lastest and greatest games.

As for the console to arcade connection, the closest we ever got was with certain fighting games letting you exchange/carry over saved info from consoles to arcades via memory cards. I'm pretty sure Virtual Fighter 4 let you do this and I think Tekken 5 and a few Dreamcast games did this as well.
