I picked this up lastnight because I figured it would be a fun title for Xbox live. Turns out it is, got a 4 player game going where everyone talked and generally had fun. It was a bit laggy, the balls seemed to move fine for the most part it was the player bumpers themselves that were laggy. I thought it was enjoyable online, and single player is nowhere near as fun especialy when it gets so fast its basicaly all based on luck and not skill (from what I played).
For 400 points I would say its worth it if you can get people to play with online.

This game was epic on the Atari 2600 with four working paddle controllers. This game needs a spinner. I heard that the XBLA joystick from Mad Catz has a poor spinner, though :(

I bought it too..
I actually like the evolved mode ALOT more than the original.

I guess the spinner doesn't even WORK with Warlords.
The thing about this game is that it's only going to be fun if you can definitely find people to play with. One of the reasons I haven't bought Gauntlet is because I'm not sure people are still playing it anymore. [By the way...anybody know if people are playing Gauntlet? It would totally buy it if they were.]
I think that Warlords would be worth getting if people keep playing it after the first 2 days of release.

No one will be playing this a week from now, and if they do its to boost the online achievements. I agree, the multiplayer isn't bad because then the controls suck for everyone equally. Against the computer.....not fun.

I played the demo a couple times. Nice that they give you a whopping 30 seconds in a level to test it out. Stingiest demo ever. But I thought the controls were terrible. They could have used the analog stick like a spinner, but instead it felt like you might as well be using a dpad. I didn't like the controls at ALL. It's like the developers were given a photograph or video of Warlords and were told "make this game" without ever actually playing it. Granted, since the demo is so ridiculously short it's hard to get a feel for the game, but I'm not spending $5 to find out. Pass.
This game needs a spinner. It doesn't need a spinner, it needs the analog stick to be used properly so you can get fast, pinpoint controls.

Off topic but a reply. I remember a few months ago I tried playing gauntlet with a friend, we played online and set up a room over live and 2 random people did join the room, just I cant remember how long it took for them to join. Not sure how it is now but I would imagine you still will get random people to join your room with some patience.

Maybe I'll pick it up, then. I've already got the PS2 Midway Arcade Greatest Hits versions of G1 and 2, but it would be worth getting for multiplayer. Thanks for the reply. Okay, back to Warlords.

If anyone is up for playing Gauntlet multiplayer, send me an invite.
As for Warlords, I loved the 2600 version back in the day. I tried the demo last night and enjoyed the "evolved" version quite a bit. It seems like it would be fun to play with 3 other people. I'm just gun shy to purchase anymore XBLA games that will be worthless in two years when the next Xbox is released.

I posted my impressions on this in another thread, but I found the controls with the analog fine, and if you go to the custom difficulty option, you can throttle the game speed to a nice level. Even ball control with holding and directing a release at someone else's castle worked well for me.
Full throttle mode is just silly-fast.
I haven't tried the online yet, but I'm curious to see if the lagging continues, or if it is something that is due to initial release issues and will be corrected.
This game really succeeds with multiple players, but at 400 points, I think it is worth it, spinner or no spinner.
(What is the point of that joystick w/ spinner release if that darned thing doesn't work with anything? It almost makes one wish for MS to start making their own PC controllers again so they could make a decent arcade stick without compatibility issues.)

OT: We've got the dual spinner Atari Flashback with the original 2600 and arcade versions of Warlords on it, and it is by far the most popular game with the kids... It's only two player, so two are still machine controlled, but the controllers are perfect - excellent mass and feel - and the game is really a lot of fun...

I am online and playing this right now, send me a message if you want to join my room (so I can make room on friends list as it is full) In a player match, people are joining the room once and awhile but I can remake if it gets full. GT is PeteDorr
BTW the lag problems I complained about are not present today since I have started playing.
