Well, I guess I will start out this month's find thread.

Had a BIG score off of Craigslist today. I guess that has become the last place to get good deals these days. Basically, a Turbo Duo, Express + Tuner and 57 games, for the most part complete in jewel cases w/manuals (with a couple RARE titles, like Exile 2)! This guy lives about 10 minutes away from me. A HUGE Turbo Duo / Turbo Express lot. Here's the pic:

http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/8379/duoscore6108go6.th.jpg (http://img128.imageshack.us/my.php?image=duoscore6108go6.jpg)

TURBO DUO w/ all hookups, 2 pads, Duo tap (100% mint condition)
TURBO EXPRESS (doesn't work, just a blank screen, maybe fixable?)
TURBO EXPRESS TV TUNER

CD GAMES:
Gate of Thunder 3-in-1 (NICE)
Exile 2: Wicked Phenomenon (VERY NICE)
Lords of Thunder
Loom
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Lords of the Rising Sun
Exile

Fighting Street
Monster Lair

HUCARDS (all in jewel w/manual unless noted):
Sidearms (no manual)
China Warrior (no manual)

Blazing Lazers (loose)
Keith Courage x2
King of Casino
Takin It To the Hoop
Andre Panza Kick Boxing

Power Golf
Neutopia
Dungeon Explorer

The condition of ALL of this stuff is impeccable. Somehow this Duo looks better than the brand new one I used to have years ago! If I can get that Express working, that would make my year as far as finds go... :) Gonna spend the rest of the day testing all these games, nice way to spend a Sunday!

Price was $350 for the entire lot. :)

I had some luck yesterday:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f165/cledus2000/Saturn.jpg

Found these two. Unfortunately, Panzer Dragoon only had discs 1 and 4.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f165/cledus2000/panzerdiscs.jpg

1 and 4 only. I need to know where the best place is to get single discs for games like this.

Also, Burning Rangers didn't have the game disc inside. But it did have this:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f165/cledus2000/shining.jpg
SHINING FORCE 3!!

Again, where can you find case-only and disc-only deals online? I found some Panzer Dragoon discs-only auctions on eBay for $100 Buy-It-Now. Ripoff!!

Also got these SNES games:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f165/cledus2000/snescarts.jpg
Act Raiser 2 & Harley's Humongous Adventure

All told, I spent around $20.00 today ($6.00 each for the Saturn half-games and 8 for both SNES games

Honestly, I'm finding you are better off selling them piece by piece and just outright buying a complete copy. My example: I had a disc only set of GH FFVII that I sold separately. That netted me just over 70 bucks. Complete copies are in the 50-70 range. That's all eBay results, for the record. I've actually got a couple of complete FFVII copies I need to sell, and I'm thinking of parting them out, too.

At an antique shop I found an NES system that looks super clean inside and out, I tink it was hardly used at all. It had tetris inside, and a controller, for 10 dollars.

I don't have the details yet, but apparently my aunt's neighborhood was having a big, several-block garage sale, and she picked me up a Game Gear system and "a lot of games" for $5. She'll be dropping it off later this week. I'm hoping for a Mega Man or Shining Force in there...

Went to Tacoma for a video game trade. Traded my xbox with halo and various other common games for a N64 with both Jumper and expansion pak, No Mercy, Perfect Dark, Gex, Super Smash Bros. in box, and then the loose games Super Mario Kart 64, DK 64, Mario Party 3, Super Mario 64. Also Body Harvest at a swap meet for $3, $2 for Mortal Kombat 2 for Game Gear, and also 4 boxes of Records for $30.

This isn't exactly the best find ever, but a friend bought a toaster NES from a pawn shop and paid $15 for it. Well the dumbass at the shop left a copy of Ducktales inside of it, Score!

As for me The Island, Land of the Dead, and The Crow UMD's from a friend for $10.
Also at the local game shop 1985 version of Appleseed (DVD) $2, Yoshi Story (64) $7, and Crazy Taxi (DC) CIB $3

I won't have a lot of finds this month, or next.

The DDR bundle was $20 at Wal-mart, its going to be a gift for a friend.

The Wavebird was $10 at a pawn shop. They had a wireless 360 controller there for 10, I might go back for that.

When did Wavebirds disappear from the face of the earth? I haven't seen them in gamestops for about a year.

It's probably because of the increasing amount of Wii games that support the Gamecube controller (Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, among others), so Wavebirds are are in high demand at the moment. I got lucky a few months back and got a new Wavebird as an early birthday gift.

The Diablo set and the Smurf were $3. I went back to the same booth later and picked up the Genesis 1 for $3 too - it's weird, it has the EXT port and a Channel 3/4 switch. I had no idea Genesis systems came with that switch!

There was one booth which had a ton of SNES games, but some crazy lady wouldn't let them go. I hope they'll be there tomorrow morning. :(

Funny story actually - today was my second day of working at my local thrift store. So I'm in the back pricing handbags and shoes and whatnot when this lady catches my eye. I see her looking at some CDs in white sleeves and a manual and then chucking them. I walked over next to her and grabbed the discs from the trash. She told me that they do this all the time, I suppose they don't like loose multi disc games. So I let her know that if she comes across any more, to let me know. Hey, it may be some crappy PC game, but free is free.

congrats, thats the slightly rarer first verison of the genesis (release system) without the extra lockout crap. Its somewhoat more desirable then the billiions of other genesis systems out there (you can tell by the high defination graphics band on the top)

its also the one that is the most effective with the age old "pull out" trick.

Not entirely true. This is borrowed from another thread:

One of our forum's prestigeous game resellers, goatdan, seems to have "cracked the code" on how to determine if a Genesis Model 1 has the copyright screen at power up. It has nothing to do with the looks, what ports it has or even serial numbers.

It's the FCC ID code that gets placed on all electronic devices. Who woulda thunk it?

On the underside of the Genesis you should see a label that has "FCC" on it. The following are the two types of IDs that are on the Model 1's:

FJ846EUSASEGA: a system that has this ID does NOT have the copyright screen.
FJ8USASEGA: a system that has this ID DOES HAVE the copyright screen.

Here is the link for the whole thread.

Last week I saw an ad for a garage sale with an NES, SNES, and N64 each with games for this past Saturday. I made sure to be there before they said they would open, which I hate doing, but seems to be necessary. I was surprised I didn't have to beat anyone back from them. Turned out there weren't any very special games or very many, but I got them all for 50 bucks, so still pretty good.

Today, though, I think I did a bit better, at least as far as my collection/playing goes. Another Craigslist ad with a bunch of miscellany and some game systems. When he emailed back with the game lists, it was 80 for the SNES+games (super metroid and Alladin are the hard to see ones) and 80 for the PS1 w/ games. I asked if he really had to sell the PS1 (he'd mentioned more PS1 games that he couldn't find) figuring to catch a break. I only had $120 on me at the time, so he took that for everything. Not the greatest deal ever, but I've been after ChronoTrigger for some time, and it will be pretty much free after I sell what I don't need. He was a really nice guy, and knew it was a good deal for me. He even pointed out the price sticker on CT, which was what he paid at a pawn shop. He had a nice PS2 lot for sale as well, so I might email back about that once my wallet recovers a little. (sorry for the novella)

Yeah, my system has the "Licensed or Produced By" startup screen. I personally don't care. I don't own any imports. :)

Anyway, I dug up my only A/V cable, plugged this sucker into my loose Sega CD 2 system, and it works! I now have a fully functional system. Well, other than the broken CD door thing (it keeps thinking the door is closed.)

And as usual, I wish I lived near Cornelius so I could steal his finds...

I stopped at a hollywood video near my work on lunch break to see if they had any PS2 games since they trade in games now. Well I found a disk only Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (it has no instr. and comes in the HV cases they use when renting). It was $30 so I grabbed it.....but when I picked it up, there was another one right behind it, so I said what the hell, I'll get em both. So I have 2 disk only M VS. C for trade if anybody is interested.

Hit my local Goodwill today and actually found something. They had the usual assortment of Genesis sports games and laying behind the counter in a pile of junk is a Mega Man 2 cart. I guess that will be out tomorrow. What I did pick up, however, was copies of How To Win at Nintendo vols. 1, 2, and 3 by Jeff Rovin, for $1.67 each. In pretty good shape too.

Ever hear of Google? :P

"The EXT input port is a DE-9F (9-pin female D-connector) that was used with the Meganet modem peripheral, released only in Japan.[59] It exists on all first-model Japanese Mega Drive units, and on early American Genesis and PAL (European, Australasian and Asian) Mega Drive units."

Cool books, Jimmy.

Here's my Craigslist find today... with story.

I found an ad in Craigslist and e-mailed the lady and got some details about the "$40.00 Sega CD and games." She said they were "wizard games" and all had cases and instructions. We e-mailed back and forth, and she said her husband was home all day and gave me the address. I'm cautious about going to strange homes, so, guardedly, I accepted and went to the location.

I got to the crappy rental townhouse where the girl (who was still at work) told me her husband would be all day. When I knocked, this older lady came to the door looking really ragged and I said

"I'm here for the Sega system." She was surprised and went to get her son (the husband of my contact), and I heard him say "What? Naaah. It's been gone. " I heard him try to call the wife and said he can only get text messages on his phone. He said "it's worth waaay more than $40.00." Finally he came to the door shirtless, tattooed and sporting what looked like scar on his ribs from a stab wound and said he didn't want to sell and didn't know what she was thinking. Just so we were all on the same page, I offered to call the wife since she e-mailed me her number in case I need directions. She picked up, thankfully, and I told her he was telling me it wasn't for sale...

"YES it IS!!" she said.

I handed the deadbeat the phone and they got into a little phone argument right in front of me at the door. I pulled out the $40.00 to cash-in-face the guy. He goes in and the mom invites me in, too. He had the box there with all the stuff and walks to the other side of the room. He said he didn't really want to sell, so I laid the cash down near the box and casually began looking through it. While he continued to mumble, with his mom firmly on his side, I began pulling some games out to make a smaller offer for since I already have a JVC X'Eye.

He finally said "Alright, man, I guess so." Now in getaway mode, I began putting the games I had pulled back into the box just as casually as I had pulled them out. He was still obviously on the fence so I began bullshitting him on other topics while he handed me the power cord from the wall. I said he should pocket the $40.00 and have his wife take him out for dinner! He replied "Shiiiit..." I said "Well that looks like everything. Later, man."

Here's what I just brought home...

First flea market day when local schools are out so it was busy and I ended up there about ten minutes later than I usually do. No big deal though as Cy had plenty of interesting stuff. Instead of finding everything in one spot a few different boxes netted me my finds from him. I grabbed a box and tossed things in as I went around. Found some boxed Master System games, a bunch of loose Intellivision games, couple Atari VCS carts and at Multi Game Doctor Main Body. Sadly that's all that was there, no cards or adapter links. Ended up paying $8.00 for the box of stuff I built.

The MGD2 seems to power up fine and the LED display comes on so I'm guessing it's in okay shape. It had a Doctor Power battery in it that was totally shot so I threw that away. As I don't have any other parts for this copier if anyone wants it just let me know. Almost all of these are duplicates so I'm going to sell them off at a yard sale this weekend.

Pickups here and there. A PSOne bare system for $5.00 which works perfectly. From another seller a N64 power adapter to complete a system I plan to sell this weekend, $2.00. Actually I swapped this one with my N64 power adapter as it's in better shape.

Shorty was back with more new stuff this time. I left SNES copies of Sunset Riders and Super Off-Road there - must have just gotten them in as the labels were perfect. I did end up grabbing a couple N64 controllers (one I need for that N64 bundle I mentioned above). Episode I Racer is for me and Shadows of the Empire is for the sale bundle. Also had a copy of Jackal I couldn't pass up since for some damn reason I don't have it in my archive. Swear I had it at one time. Anyway, the N64 sticks didn't feel that bad there but they went right to pot once I used them for a while. I'll still bundle the purple one (I'm really not going to ask much) and keep the Pokemon one for myself and just switch out the stick eventually.

N64 - Atomic Purple Controller ($5.00)
N64 - Pokemon Controller ($5.00)
N64 - Star Wars Episode I Racer ($5.00)
N64 - Star Wars Shadows of the Empire ($5.00)
NES - Jackal ($2.00)

Not too bad, not too great but nice enough. ...Damn I have a lot of crap to get rid of this Saturday.

Nicely done Cambot! Glad you didn't get stabbed @_@

For me it was CONTROLLER day at the thrift!!! I think I have an NES controller addiction, as I must have stockpiled 20 of them by now. I think I have about 10 N64 controllers now. This one is pretty good, though I normally would have passed, but it had a controller pak in it so I went ahead. The rest that I have are all nearly perfect (stick-wise) so this one will go in a bundle soon. The Merlin I picked up at SA because I had one as a kid, it was on a shelf with no price sticker on it, so I was going to ask, but then I saw the box nearby (with instructions inside) and that had a 1.99 sticker on it. Nice to see that it is actually worth something (though I'm keeping it), unfortunately it has some significant damage to one of the leeds in the battery compartment. Still works, though. Starcraft was 1.49 on blue sticker day at GW. Grand total for the day was 15.03, though I also found an FM broadcaster for my FiL's new Zune since his 'new' 07 GTO doesn't have an aux jack + a few other miscellaneous things.

Nice find Cambot! Does Crusader of Centy have the manual? My understanding is that is one of the hardest games to find complete for the Genesis.

I totally get this phenomenon. Jackal is one of those games you were sure you had, but not sure enough not to pick it up. Because you'll get home and search the archives and kick yourself for not getting it. I think I've had it happen to me with certain games like Master Blaster and River City Ransom. (I still think I have it somewhere)

Cambot, you said you were in Houston, right? Funny, I never such an ad on Craigslist for $40 Sega stuff (yeah, I check regularly).

You sure you're not just bullshitting us with these "amazing" finds? :wink 2:

I saw the ad about an hour after it was put up yesterday morning. I had the goods by 3pm and noticed the ad was taken down when I got home.

Besides, it would be pretty sad for a 31 year old to BS a group of strangers online about his VG finds. :)

Ain't it the truth though?

I've come across some amazing finds myself here in Houston. Our lack of any kind of real classic gaming shops makes 'em especially rare- from a free minty boxed Virtual Boy and a stack of games to a giant tub of NES games and systems I found for $10.

Oh and the sheer size of Houston really doesn't help either. Great find, by the way. It's good to know that these are still obtainable out in the wild in H-Town. I'm gonna have to hit that Second To None resale shop in the near future. It is near my neighborhood after all. :D

That was where I found this: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y139/ckeene/lot.jpg

Unfortunately, they've closed their doors for good. I got some nice Genesis games there, too, in the past.

I spent way too much today... Ahem.

While waiting to cross over to the States (I live in Mexico, remember?), I noticed that there was a new Mexican Customs agent stationed in the tunnel which we have to cross when we go to and come back from the USA. The guy was stopping people like crazy, even if they had small baggies. He was out for blood. I made a mental note of it and kept going.

I arrived at the flea market at around 6:30. Walked around a bit, and one of the vendors which I usually buy stuff from was still setting up her booth, so I took a walk through the southwest corner of the flea market.

Someone was unloading a ton of barrels containing VHS tapes, clothes, toys, and such, when I found this lot right next to some VHS tapes.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2008-06-04-neslot.jpg

I immediately grabbed 'em all. They all seem to be complete, and the carts inside are MINT. They even have Nintendo Power ads and posters! I asked for a price, the seller glanced at the boxes and didn't realize they were games, instead confusing them with the VHS tapes, so he said they were $10. Woo. I paid and ran away before he realized his mistake. :P

After that I went back to the booth I mentioned earlier. There were a few Dreamcast and PS1 games on the table, and a few more in a barrel; I fished out these two from there.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2008-06-04-dfft.jpg

... D is complete and the discs appear to be in good shape, but the case is trashed. Final Fantasy Tactics is also complete and in decent shape, and it also had a second, scratched FFT disc in there! $20 for both. Yeah, a bit too much, but I wanted D and I figured I can sell both copies of FFT and make back my money.

I spent the rest of the morning looking around a bunch of other booths, found some PS2 games stashed in with a bunch of adult DVDs (nothing against porn, but... yech... the covers gave me the heebee-jeebees), but most were sports games. I was about to leave the flea market when I noticed a weird looking box in a booth near the south edge of the place... and it turned out to be this:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2008-06-04-snesboot.jpg

The seller must've thought it was a VHS tape, too. Hee hee. It's a pirate Super Famicom multicart, and contains: Super Mario World, Goof Troop, Tom and Jerry, Congo's Caper, Choplifter II, F-Zero, World Soccer 94 Road To Glory and Top Gear. It cost me $2.

I then left the flea market, went to a store to buy some groceries, and started my CUNNING PLAN. After I paid I picked up a few extra plastic bags and put all my NES games in there. I then attempted to cross over to Mexico, and just as I suspected, the Customs agent STOPPED ME. He asked me what I had in my backpack, and I replied "a couple of CDs." He opened it and saw the two PS1 games I had in there but didn't inspect them. Then he opened my grocery bag, and as I was closing up my backpack, he peeked inside my NES game bag, but they were all wrapped in another plastic bag so he must've thought they were food items. He then said I could leave.

When I was about fifty feet away I sighed and almost ran outta there. Damn customs agents... they'll try to charge you insane amounts of money if you bring something that looks even remotely valuable and you don't have an invoice. I hate this country.

END.

I was very curious about that. Seems like it doesn't belong there. Any differences between the first and second prints?
